Dick's also pays their employees very well, pays for their college, and adjusts their schedule to suit their classes. All because they believe in retaining trained, efficient people.
IDK, the quality certainly never really changed. Same standards and policies. Everything was very buttoned down (as is the norm). There are actually two grills in most of the locations. If one acts up we would just adjust to the other. If any one employee's salt is wrong (ect) it would be abundantly obvious to the manager and corrections would be made immediately.
I’ve been a few of times in the last two years when I’ve been in town. They’re.. fine. I wasn’t blown away, but definitely can see how it’s a go-to when inebriated.
They are only the same in the cheap, quick, and no special order type of things. But for me personally, I'll pick a fried burger over a steamed one just for the texture difference. Gimme that Deluxe with the wilted lettuce and those floppy ass fries at Dick's.
Yeah dick’s is incredible value too. $3 for a burger that’s actually fresh these days is great. And they pay their employees well + pay for education IIRC.

Nah, she was buried in Inverin, Co. Galway. Its a very secluded graveyard on the west atlantic coast of ireland. Its up a tiny road and on the coastline. So ppl werent there after dusk. And the ppl who frequented knew me cause id skip school too and hang there at the beginning. But def if someone would have shown up, i would have scared them lol. But it was so dark too. Definitely wasnt healthy or normal but losing her was just life shattering for me. Its a long time ago now, i can chuckle about the idea of it all
I've had both and definitely prefer Krystal but I think it says more about the quality of drinking I do in New Orleans than it does about either chain.
I had it once in the middle of the night, because it was the only thing open. It was easily one of the worst places I've ever eaten. Just soggy, bland, little Walmart frozen grade burgers. I legitimately question how they stay open.
When I was in college, my buddy and I stopped at Krystals coming back from a show. We were going to get ten, I think, but the kid behind the counter was like, I only have enough buns to make like 30 more burgers, then I have to close. Is it cool if I give you 30 but only charge you for 10? We said hells yeah. Then we got back to the dorm, ate fifteen each, and played Goldeneye. Christ I miss being young.
Straight to the toilet 30 minutes after eating. They are amazing when you’re starving, drunk, or stoned. Every so often you just crave that onion coated goodness though. Nothing like a 10 sack of sliders with cheese and a large Big Red.
30 years ago White Castle was amazing. They were cooked in massive batches, fresh, on a flat top right in front of you. They were epic greasy diner sliders and anytime someone went to pick someone up from the airport, they also had to bring back a. 30 pack or were not allowed back in the house.30 year later they taste like it’s 30 years later.
The wildest thing about White Castle burgers is if you fart after eating them it smells just like the burger. I don’t understand the science behind it lol
So Onions have two ingredients that are harder for humans to digest; Sulfer and Fructans. With out getting TOO graphic, basically these two ingredients feed the bacteria in your gut and causes them to expel much more gas than usual, a lot more.
Now I know what you’re think “oh have onions on other burgers and never get that kind of gas like White castles” and your right! White castles aren’t burgers they’re sliders, as such most of the ingredients of the burger are cook on the same griddle with thin patties. Thinner patties means less fat and grease to coat the onions during digestion, and the patties are cooked ontop of the onions, so the reverse happens where all those fructans gets sweated out and absorbed by the meat and the cheese and buns which all go on the onion bed at some point while being steamed catching that sulfur.
TLDR: WC sliders are soaked with fructans and sulfur from being cooked on a bed of onions and that upsets your gut bacteria making your gassy and potentially softer stool.
I never had a genuine White Castle burger growing up for the same reason. In college though I would buy the grocery store freezer section White Castle burgers and enjoyed them. They really nailed that "tasty garbage" quality.
Being from the west I had only known those freezer burgers, and loved them. When I moved to Baltimore, I calculated the closest White Castle on my way to my destination so I could finally try them. I landed in Newark NJ and was genuinely scared for my life just how sketched out everyone was in the immediate area. Turns out, White Castles are primarily in bad areas, kinda like the iconic Little Caesar's + Payday Loans + Liquor store trio.
Having lived in Maryland most of my life, I really haven't seen a lot of White castles until I moved to the Midwest. From what I can tell, they are in one of two locations: immediately off the highway next to the cracker barrel (because sometimes when you're driving long distances in the middle of the night you need something easy to eat and awful for you) or in the sketchiest neighborhood possible. There used to be one I think on the edge of Corktown in Detroit that had no other non-blighted buildings a couple blocks in every direction
Contrary to everyone else, the frozen ones taste about 75% similar to me. The ones in the restaurant taste a lot fresher (like actual fast food) but they feel close.
Only burger chain that will make my poop and farts smell like the burgers. Every time I fart I'm reminded of my poor decision to eat 20 jalapeño cheese sliders.
I worked at a gas station from age 19-21. The owner did a shit ton of coke and ate pretty much exclusively Wendy's. Then he would come behind the counter to do stuff like, empty the safe, count cigarettes, etc. And he would always fart and his farts always smelled like Wendy's burgers and fries. I am now 47 and I still can't eat Wendy's because of Bob's horrific farts.
Had it for the first time a few months ago. Worst smelling gas of my life like it wasn’t even my own. Like a homeless guy broke in and took a shit. Still delicious though
I agree, looks the worst but tastes the best. Although that’s probably cause it’s the same thing as with subway where you pick what ever you want on it.
Yeah that’s a you thing bud, there’s no ingredient that’s drastically different from other fast food burgers. The biggest difference is they used dehydrated onions which unlike fresh onions give them their distinctive flavor.
They had that one movie... That's all I know about them. Oddly enough, John Cho is also my only connection to 5 guys, due to the funny Star Trek interview where he thougth the interviewer actually preferred 5 actual guys
First time they came to the West Coast was Las Vegas. Friends and I started lining up to try them out. We started seeing the trays of "food" coming out and we took a hard pass at waiting in line any longer.
When you grow up with In-N-Out, White Castle looks like nothing you'd ever choose to eat.
God Californians are relentless with their In-N-Out comparison. ( I date one so I hear that too often lol ) it’s not the same thing at all. In-N-Out is the burger you marry, consistent, clean, quality. White Castle is a 2 am drunken hookup that you won’t forget. Also you caught something.
It's been a long time since I had one, but if memory serves, you'll like white castle if you like grease and onions. Cuz there's a lot of grease and a lot of onions.
They are usually also in the frozen section of stores. They have holes in the patty so the onion flavor soaks in better. Fatty but very good. You do not need to be “F-ed” up to find it good.

Never had White Castle, they don’t exist in my state. They seem like a “hate it or you love it” type chain though.
