Discussion I scratched my mom's car, Advice.

Post image

I scratched my mom's, now I need advice.

I was preparing for an interview but the house was loud, so I took the car without asking so I could go somewhere quiet and prepare there. The spot I thought of had some people there so I decided to drive back.

While driving back I scratched the car, now I don't know what to do. The problem is this is not the first time, I've done this stupid shit before once.

I'm thinking of running away from my problems if it wasn't for the interview and somethings I've planned for today and tomorrow, I would have left by now, called her on the phone and informed her of what I did, but I have that interview.

The tensions have been high at home and this will only serve to escalate it.

The scratch is worse from the side.

What should I do?

Get this deal! 2 for R60. Without it, you'd pay R10 less. What a steal! 😉

Discussion Xenophobia is gonna screw us over

Looking at all the issues that have come up in SA recently, I've been wondering about my family's future. I can't help but think that the recent wave of xenophobia in this country (maybe even past instances of it) are a little too convenient.

Putting on my tinfoil hat, I would like you to look at the following:

  1. Both Jancita and Ndabandaba are both media personalities (a career that doesn't pay that well in SA)

  2. The former's partner has a company that seems to function purely through state or enterprise procurement on security. You won't find anything wrong here because this is private industry.

It's kinda odd when social class doesn't match what a person does. However, looking at the situation right now, I have questions.

How does dissolving the SAHRC help us as South Africans? When they were marching, it was against illegal migrants; however, they are also going after the ones with documentation now.

I was watching the SABC News (yes, state media. It's more impartial than it's private counterparts). The petition's representation claimed that we have 50 million foreigners in this country, he then changed his claim to 20 million after being informed that the number is not possible, then he admitted that the numbers were a guess; however, he said that there was an organisation he got his figures from then caught himself and decided to stick to the idea that he was thumb sucking these figures.

What I find odd is that the representative didn't even seem informed regarding his claims. All I saw was an intricate, locally targetted dog whistle.

It looks odd for me that we are focused on this when educated people are making uneducated claims.

All this being said, there are real grievances that should be expressed about the current situation. As a citizen, you should be given priority when using state healthcare, or if you have children who need schooling.

I understand where people are coming from, but they are crazy to think that fighting the SADC region, or the rest of the continent is actually gonna help us as a nation.

Discussion F23yr old foreigner scared about 30 June deadline

My situation is very complicated. I was born in Uganda, but my family moved to South Africa when I was 4 years old. I grew up here, went to school here, and later attended University of Johannesburg. Unfortunately, in my third year, I couldn’t complete my degree because of financial problems.

After that, I worked part-time in sales for about a year. The following year at 21 years old, I managed to get a job as a bookkeeper at an accounting firm. Looking back now, I took that opportunity for granted. I slacked off, lost motivation, and eventually lost the job. At the time, I didn’t fully understand how badly I had messed up or how lucky I was to even have stable work which I wasn't qualified for.

That was two years ago, and since then, I stayed home and didn't work hoping that my father would take my studies seriously. He has had so much money time and time again and completely shoved me aside. I can understand maybe I'm an adult and am expected to do things for myself, but my situation is very complicated because although I grew up in South Africa, I’m still on a study visa that my father kept renewing over the years. Since high school, I’ve asked him many times to help me sort out my papers properly because he has a South African ID, but he always seems to have other priorities. The scariest part is that my visa expires next month on the deadline for illegal foreigners to leave the country. My father hasn’t really said or done anything about it, even though we live under the same roof. Sometimes, I feel like he’s already decided that I’ll just be sent back to Uganda.

I know Uganda is my home country, and if I have to go back, I’ll do my best to survive, find work, and build a life for myself there. But I can’t explain how heavy this uncertainty feels. South Africa is the only life I’ve ever really known. Every day I look around feeling like my time here is running out. I’m terrified that I could lose the life, friends, and family connections I’ve built here and may not see them again for a very long time.

Lately I’ve just been overwhelmed with fear, sadness, and uncertainty about the future. Thus isnt the life I had imagined myself living when I matriculated 6 years ago. I feel like the worlds biggest loser or failure. My peers are starting their careers and building their lives. How I dream to just be given the opportunity to do that too but this burden lays on my shoulders stressing me out and draining the life out of me. I haven’t really spoken about this openly before only a few close relatives know. I guess I just needed somewhere to let this all out.

Please be kind in the comments. I’m sensitive to being told “go back where you came from.” I was only 4 years old when my family moved here. It was never my choice.

Discussion Never buy from Revibe, they're a circus with bad customer support.

Hey everyone,

I’m posting this as both a warning and a vent. I ordered a refurbished Samsung Galaxy S21 (128GB) from Revibe on Monday morning after seeing a few decent reviews on here. They promise a 3 to 5 day delivery time, so I fully expected it to arrive by today (Friday), or at the very least be with the courier.

Instead, it’s been an absolute circus. Here is the timeline:

  • Monday Morning: Order placed.
  • Thursday: Order status was still stuck on "Created" with zero updates. I called customer support, and they claimed there was an "issue causing a delay" but promised they would promptly update the order status on the system.
  • Friday Morning (24 hours later): Still no change. I called again. This time, the agent told me it takes up to 48 hours just to move the phone to the quality control stage. This makes zero sense for an order that was supposed to be delivered by now.
  • The "Escalation" Loop: When I pushed back, the agent said they "escalated" the issue but still had to "follow regular procedure." How does a delayed order that already missed its window get stuck in regular procedure?
  • Furthermore, the agent tried to explain that Revibe is still a good store cause they offer free delivery and handle customs for you, but other platforms do that too now, Shein does, Amazon offers express shipping for R1, and Takealot for free, as their items never take more than a day to deliver (to me atleast, I'm in Pretoria), even when the stated period is higher.

The Final Straw:

I explained how frustrated I was with the complete lack of communication—especially since I’ve had to initiate every single update myself. I asked to speak to management. Instead of putting a manager on, the agent offered me a R500 discount voucher for my next purchase.

This made me even angrier because Revibe literally gives everyone a R500 discount code on their site anyway. Offering me a public generic promo code as "compensation" for breaking their delivery promise is insulting. I was told the order would only be sorted out sometime next week, so I hung up.

I desperately need a phone right now, otherwise I would have refunded immediately. But guess what? A refund takes 5 to 7 working days, so I just need to stick it through.

Please buy local, buy from Swopp, buy from TechMarkit, from weFix where you won't deal with horrible customer service and misleading delivery times. And yes, I should have bought from them, unfortunately Swopp didn't have any Samsungs in my price range.

Looking back at HelloPeter, I’m highly convinced a massive chunk of those 5-star reviews are paid bots. It's so stupid.

Discussion Victim thanks robber after being spared during armed robbery in Pretoria

A South African Bolt/Uber woman driver getting robbed in Pretoria. She remained surprisingly calm throughout the ordeal. If you didn’t see the gun or understand the language being spoken, you might not immediately realise what is happening at first glance.

The man robbing her repeatedly said he wasn't expecting a woman while continuing the robbery. She tells him she is from around the area and that she has kids. She then sends him a CashSend of her last R200, and at the end says “Dankie” because she is grateful that her life was spared.

He even believed he had gotten rid of the footage, probably doesn't know it works.
