VIDEO: Dog rescued from 132-degree car in Chandler
12news.comArizona heat makes a vehicle interior deadly within minutes. A car can reach 130 to 150 degrees even when the outside temperature is around 100 to 105. The Chandler case linked here involved a car that reached 132 degrees inside. Thankfully, the dog is OK and the owner was charged with animal cruelty.
What to do if you see a child or pet alone in a hot car:
---
- Check for immediate danger
Look through the windows for any of the following:
• Child or pet not moving
• Heavy panting, drooling, vomiting
• Lethargic or unresponsive
• Collapse or signs of heatstroke
If any of these are present, treat the situation as life threatening.
---
- Call 911 immediately
Provide:
• Exact location
• Vehicle description
• Condition of the child or pet
Arizona dispatch treats these calls as priority emergencies.
---
- Try to locate the driver, but do not delay rescue
You can ask nearby businesses to page the vehicle owner.
Stay with the vehicle and keep eyes on the child or pet.
---
Arizona Good Samaritan Law: You are legally allowed to break the window
Arizona law protects you from civil liability if all of the following are true:
• You reasonably believe the child or pet is in imminent danger
• The vehicle is locked and you cannot otherwise get them out
• You call 911 before entering the vehicle
• You use only the amount of force necessary
• You remain at the scene until police arrive
This law exists because heatstroke can begin within minutes.
---
- If you must break the window
• Choose the window farthest from the child or pet
• Use a pointed object such as a metal tool, tire iron, or rock
• Strike the corner of the window, not the center
• Clear broken glass before reaching inside
---
- After removing the child or pet
Move them to shade or air conditioning and begin active cooling.
For children or adults:
• Offer cool water if they are fully conscious
• Apply cool wet cloths to the neck, armpits, and groin
• Do not use ice directly
• If vomiting, place them on their side
• Stay with them until emergency responders arrive
For pets:
• Look for signs of heatstroke such as bright red gums, wobbling, collapse
• Apply cool water to paws, belly, and ears
• Offer small amounts of cool water if the pet is alert
---
Legal consequences in Arizona
Leaving a child or pet in a hot car can result in:
• Child endangerment charges
• Animal cruelty charges
• Fines and vehicle impound
These charges are common in Arizona due to the extreme heat risk.

Anyone know of a reliable AC/Plumbing company in the Chandler/Phoenix Area?
I'm currently paying a monthly "Membership" fee with Emergency Air and Plumbing. At first it started out well with them making timely visits for maintenance and checkups. Now, I'll schedule a maintenance appointment and I'll be continually pushed off on the day of the appointment. I had one scheduled mid March, they pushed it off until today, now they pushed it off again until July 8th. In the past 2-3 months I've paid them over $7,000 (with the 10% discount I get with my "membership")....They can certainly haul their rear ends out here when there's a lot of money to be made but can blow me off for a half hour maintenance call. I called them a week and a half ago to see if they'd install a water softener if I purchased it my self. They sent a couple of people out the next day trying to sell me a 19k water system when all I wanted was a simple question asked. They keep using the "We've so many emergency calls we can't fit you in until...."
Sorry, just venting. Anyone know of a company that does a better job than they do?
Clarification- I didn't pay them $7,000 for maintenance. I had some AC issues that required some modifications to my system. The unit was full of mold and had to be cleaned and sanitized. I also installed a UV system to prevent reoccurring.

Looking for a mechanic
Just moved to Chandler, looking for a local mechanic shop for all maintenance and repairs. I’m hoping to avoid the Nissan dealership. Near S. Dobson and Chandler Blvd (I think those are the cross streets?)

High water pressure - will city add a pressure regulator?
Helping a friend who lives in Chandler. Water pressure was 85 when I checked it. Plumber says it was “just under 100” when checked.
Either way it is too high and they have had two leaks already. Will the city add a pressure regulator at the meter if the homeowner complains?

Both of my dogs have been bitten by an unknown insect almost one month apart (indoors). Anyone else seeing an increase?
galleryEVERYONE IS FINE!
I was so scared but luckily I have an emergency vet and know to administer benadryl asap, but wasn't able to get my chi to take it which was the scariest because she was clearly having trouble breathing. I just kept begging her to keep breathing the entire drive to the vet. She's very tough!!
Both incidents happened indoors, in my bedroom. Yes, I keep my home clean, regularly vacuuming, washing bedding (including dog beds and blankets). Bugs don't really freak me out so if I see one or two here and there, I just leave them alone - we certainly don't have an infestation. I've scheduled for pest control to come this week though, to be on the safe side.
I've had my dogs for 12 and 8 years and this has never happened to us, but two bites/stings within a month? I'm wondering if anyone is experiencing anything similar?
