Great Egret

Post image

I didn’t realize we had several heron species here in Chandler, Arizona. Always cool to see these!

It's fun watching them hunt for food. They're slow and stealth. It makes me slow down too, just so I can observe. 😌

I hope to see that someday! So far, I just see them flying and standing.

I saw one eat a snake one time! If you take some time to watch, it can pay off. :)

Meh. I’ve seen better. “Pretty good egret” at best.

In the morning, from Alma, take Ocotillo west, then make a right on SWJacaranda (second Jacaranda, the first is SE). There is a spot with a view of the golf course and the lake where you should see a few of these beauties and Double-crested Cormorants. The DcCs will be leaving soon.

We have seen several heron nests up high in a tall tree near Mays Pond in Chandler. They grab small fishes from the pond to feed their babies I believe.
