I was making my regular trip yesterday through the market at around 11:45am and noticed filming happening in the market, does anyone know what it was they were filming ? I noticed a black lady from tv closer into the market but for the life of me I cannot remember her name. I think she has been on one of the main channels, can’t remember what shoe (BBC1/BBC2/ITV/Chanel4/ Chanel5) and Im trying to tell my partner her name but cannot find her ! Did anyone manager to catch a glimpse ?!

A space with stable WiFi that is open on Sunday morning?

Hi lovelies, could anyone help a tourist out? I'll be in Croydon on June 14th. I will need stable WiFi and an outlet for a call between 10 am and 2pm (yes 4 hours), and I realized that after booking my stay with a Sunday 10am checkout. Any public place that is not too loud but also does not have a problem if I talk? (libraries are therefore out, not that I suspect any to be open on a Sunday) i dont expect it to be free, but depending on the price I might just decide to book for another night instead 🥲

Edit: Croydon Workspace seems like the best fit for my needs, I messaged them. Thank you all for suggestions!

Whitgift Closing Down?

Is it true that the Whitgift will be closing down? Is so sad if this is the truth 😞. I have been visiting it for the past month or so as I heard these rumours but got told they might not be true??? Is it not going to close down after all?

Many thanks

Help with bicycle

I have recently been given a fairly decent road bike that is in need of some TLC. Namely, some new pedals (has none), new handlebar wraps, tyres pumped up etc. does anyone know a good shop in Croydon or the surrounding areas that would be able to help with something like this?

TIA.

Rush hour traffic in Croydon

I have to be at Shirley Oaks hospital at 9am on a weekday morning this week.

I live in Wales, so have booked a hotel for the night before. It’s the Grand Sapphire, 45 Imperial Way.

I don’t want to be late and have no idea how bad Croydon morning traffic is. Should I allow an hour for the hotel - hospital journey?

Thanks.

Norwood - opinions

Im moving to London soon and I’ve been looking for rooms around the south norwood hill area, if anyone here lives in the area would you recommend it to someone who’s moving to London for the first time? I’m a 25yo female and ideally I’d like to be in an area where there’s quite a few things to do within walking distance like nice cafes, bars, parks etc

Thank you!!

Tent citys

Has anybody noticed the sheer amount of tents popping up all over I have a camp near my house that keeps expanding and they just keep getting worse and worse human feces on the floor and stepped all over and walked around everywhere. Broken bottles pallets and for some reason kids scooters. Any tips on how to get rid?

Help me plan a tram date?

Been going out with a north londoner, I want to show her the tram on our next date as she's never been on it and quite wants to. Thing is I also want something decent to actually take her to via the tram. Maybe a nice pub or pubs, an interesting place to visit, etcetera.

I'm thinking we could either start off in East Croydon (close to my gaff) or Wimbledon (she can get the northern line there).

TIA.

Wassup. Let's talk Indian Takeaways

Look, I've been on this subreddit, I've tried the older recommendations, but I still don't feel like I've found an amazing Indian Takeaway. I'm defaulting to Chat House, but it isn't hitting what I need. I've lived in multiple places in London and always found the spot for an Indian takeaway. So there must be one in Croydon that I don't know about and I'm willing to try anywhere. Please, if there's somewhere you rate highly please comment!

Fire engines on high street?

Tonight three fire engines arrived on high street, stayed for around 10 minutes then departed one by one. Same thing happened about 2 weeks ago, only that time they also evacuated ludoquist (for about 20 minutes, then everyone went back in). No sign of smoke or cats up a tree! Anyone know what happened either time?

Moving to Croydon: which moving companies do you recommend for South London?

I am about to move out of my current apartment and I am pulling my hair out when I see the prices charged by standard moving companies in South London. I have been reading around and I am seriously considering trying AnyVan.

Has anyone else used this platform recently to transport furniture through Croydon, or do you have any recommendations for a local driver who knows the streets well around here and doesn't get stuck in all the restrictions in the area?

Also, I would like to know if you had any issues with parking the van in front of the building on the day of the move, given how crowded the streets are here, or if I should make a special request to the council so I don't end up with a fine?

Are there any therapists, beauticians here who are just starting out?

Hey everyone, hope this is okay to share! I know how brutal the upfront costs are when you're trying to go solo in beauty/aesthetics. I actually have a professional treatment room setup that I’m trying to make accessible for freelancers/new starters. I'm renting it out fully flexible at £15/hr to keep it affordable. Not trying to spam, just genuinely trying to fill the space with good people. If you’re looking for a spot to see clients, drop me a message or ask any questions below!

Are there any quiet areas to study?

Unfortunately, I recently had to stop working at the last place I was working with my apprenticeship and I’m currently in the process of finding a new one. However I cannot tell my parents and I need somewhere where I can go to pretend to be at work for the day. preferably somewhere with long hours but I just need somewhere with Air-con and I can do my College work or read a book. I was thinking about coffee shops but I don’t exactly have the money to spend and I’m not sure how long I’m going to have to be doing this. Up until this point I’ve been saying I was on holiday but to much time has passed I can’t do that anymore. Any places you have would be great. I need both weekdays and weekends.

I’m 17 so busses are still free so long as I’m no t taking trains travel expenses are not an issue

Edit to add: my work days (chef in central London) start very early because it’s a long journey in so I leave my house at about 5:30 I can push it to 6:30 leave but I have to be gone before my mum starts waking up and I’m not usually home till 8:30 again could push to 7:00 but public areas aren’t gonna be open this early especially on Sundays, if you know anything I’ll take it

What is your experience or opinions on Sumner Road South (cr0 3ly) & the surrounding area? i feel this is one of the most neglected and anti social areas in Croydon.

Bins lining the roads, abandoned smashed vehicles on every street, mopeds/motorbikes on the pavements, Euston road has fly tips from top to bottom, illegal parking on pavements and dropped kerbs.. I feel this area is completely forgotten.

Pasta San Giorgio’s 🍝

Does anyone else remember Pasta San Giorgio’s, the little Italian restaurant in St George’s Walk? Green frontage and wooden inside. Grew up in the 90s and early 00s going here for family meals and celebrations and I think this is where I discovered my life long love for pasta.

Van broken into in the Croydon Costco carpark - appeal for witnesses.

Hi, My colleague had his van (grey Ford transit custom) broken into and tools stolen at the Croydon Cosco carpark between 1300-1500 on Saturday 23rd May. Police have been informed, and we are resigned to the fact that in all likelihood nothing will be recovered, however on the off chance that someone who sees this saw something of might have dashcam footage please do get in touch. Thieves used a drill to disable the van lock.

Tennis near East Croydon

Hi!

With the sun out, I've got the urge to start playing tennis again, unfortunately no one I know really feels the same.

Are there any tennis clubs in the area? I haven't been able to find any outside South Croydon. I'm also not particularly competitive and these always seem like they're set up to get you into leagues and similar.

Alternatively if anyone fancies heading to the Park Hill park courts for a knock about then feel free to drop me a message.

I'm a 30 year old guy, used to play a lot as a kid but it's been a while so I'm probably pretty rusty. Never really mastered serving but I should be able to get the ball back.

Please can someone adopt this cat

He's a male, unsure on age but would guess at 6 -10.

Probably needs snipping and chipping that we'd happily pay for. We also have some sachets and a carrier we'd donate.

We've tried all the local charities who are full to the brim and only taking on kittens, injured, pregnant cats etc.

We would love to but already have 3 boys, photos 5-7, which Mimi (as we've called him) intimidates.

He's clearly a long term stray and is a bit of a street tough, but does really want strokes and can be affectionate.

He could be a wonderful pet for a household who can give him the attention and care he needs.
