Wassup. Let's talk Indian Takeaways

Look, I've been on this subreddit, I've tried the older recommendations, but I still don't feel like I've found an amazing Indian Takeaway. I'm defaulting to Chat House, but it isn't hitting what I need. I've lived in multiple places in London and always found the spot for an Indian takeaway. So there must be one in Croydon that I don't know about and I'm willing to try anywhere. Please, if there's somewhere you rate highly please comment!

Royal Tandoori in Selsdon

Royal tandoori is great for dining in, but when you order takeaway I think it comes from their other branch and never seems as good.

For takeaway we always end up back with Selsdon Spice!!

Depends where you’re based, think they have been guilty in the past of sending some orders to Whyteleafe. Easiest way to tell is the Bhajis.

I’m right near the restaurant and any order I make online comes from whyteleafe. I think the only way to get takeaway from the actual restaurant must be to phone them and request it or collect. Bit sneaky.

Banger suggestion

I second Royal Tandoori - if you ring them directly they should be able to make it in the correct branch?

Saffron, down towards the bus garage. Best cooked lumps of chicken ive had for a long time.

2

u/mappsy91 4d ago

Do agree Saffron is decent. The guy that runs it is nice too

Sitar on Portland Road is the undisputed GOAT.

Aachi on the high street is pretty damn good. I've tried them out a couple of time after Rupali Ruchi shut down.

Agreed!

Also a Chat House loyal but open to other recommendations!

Parathas, samosas from Paratha Inn..

This place is the best!

u/Mammoth-Minute4830 5d ago

I’m in South Norwood but it’s Sitar every time for us!

Their chicken tikka masala is the best. So sweet and creamy.

Amera Rani, deep in South Croydon. Award winning and for good reason.

u/SirAlexKensington 2d ago

I'm agreived that this wasn't higher up.

If you can be bothered to go, it are in the delivery catchment India Dining in Warlingham is great too.

2

u/sarahmkda 4d ago

My fave too

u/echilda 5d ago

Vujon is pretty good. Rezala also.

6

u/treeseacar 5d ago

I'm a vujon fan but I am sure there is better out there.

Just outside of Croydon but Inaga in the Coney Hall end of West Wickham regularly wins awards and for good reason!

A second vote for Inaga, really good food there.

Royal Tandoori is elite imo

Aachis is definitely a 10/10 for us. Have ordered from there one too many times and been in a couple of times.

Tindli in West Croydon! From Chef Karnavar. It's my favourite

1

u/fgbTNTJJsunn 3d ago

Ditto, it's my favourite too.

Best Kerala food for anyone reading this.

There was an absolutely amazing place called Green Tandoori - amazing curry, good prices. I thought it shut down (their website closed) but according to another Reddit thread I found researching for this answer, it turns out it has rebranded to Delhi Kitchen.

Highly recommend, incredible food, good veggie and vegan options. I’ll likely be ordering from there myself next week!

u/ParmigianoMan 5d ago

Hang on, there was a Delhi Kitchen in Sanderstead, which is now a somewhat odd Indian-Italian place. Did the team just move?

1

u/TragedyOA 5d ago

Green Tandoori was amazing.

Looking at Delhi Kitchen menu is different and expensive.

2

u/AggressiveOddish 4d ago

Green Tandoori was great. The new one is not. Ordered twice and tried different things and was very disappointed both times. So I’m still looking for a new ‘local’

Any thoughts on Mazala in East Croydon?

3

u/tuberage 5d ago

Nothing astonishing but I've always enjoyed food from there.

1

u/Maverick81_ 5d ago

Likewise.

4

u/PRTYSTRTR 5d ago

Highly recommend Navaratna

u/Alarmed_Lunch3215 5d ago

Tindli express

Achi is South Croydon is the best

4

u/malivoirec 5d ago

Another vote for Aachis, always great

3

u/jaywree 4d ago

This whole comments section is just people naming every Indian in and around Croydon. Which one is the best people?? We need a vote or something! Anyone tried them all and can give a strong opinion?

3

u/BUS73R 5d ago

Try Karachi Cuisine. Or Namak Mandi, they do delivery from Tooting pretty fast.

3

u/SnooMarzipans821 5d ago

Chat House still the best indian

3

u/VehicleWonderful6586 5d ago

Don’t use them for takeaway but sangri are great

3

u/ryan_peay 5d ago

We LOVE Chat House. Wife and I have always struggled to have places make us food spicy enough for us and they ALWAYS hit the mark.

Happy to try new places too but Chat House is always a win for us.

Taste of Bengal?

Worth checking Croydon Curry Club on insta. They check out most of the good ones

Himalaya in Purley!

1

u/Hevz555 5d ago

Himalaya is consistently 10/10 and we’ve tried a LOT of places!

1

u/OrganisedFun27 4d ago

Agreed, we’ve only had takeaway though. It’s not Nepalese as far as I’m aware! It’s the one on Godstone Road

1

u/liptastic 5d ago

Really? My partner is Nepalese, so we've been a lot of Nepalese restaurants through the years and we had one of the worst meals there

2

u/Hevz555 5d ago

You might be thinking of somewhere else. Himalaya isn’t Nepalese

2

u/Fozzy_aoe 5d ago

Apna is my go to. Think they are in Norwood.

2

u/navratankurma 5d ago

The new place Honey Moon is pretty damn good. Try it out!

2

u/bootsdowd 5d ago

Team Chat House, spectacular food.

Royal Tandoori in Selsdon is the absolute best! Check out Croydon Curry Club on TikTok - these two guys are trying every curry spot in Croydon and rating them.

u/RoadNarrow 5d ago

Recently ordered from haweli in norbory and it was delicious

1

u/el_gee 5d ago

Dhinchak is my top pick, I’d say it has got the best butter chicken in Croydon!

1

u/DaddyStoat 5d ago

Coriander in South Croydon have been consistently good for 25 years.

I used to really like Papadom in Addiscombe too - I think they're technically still around as part of Damas Grill, where Rezala used to be. They would do me chicken tikka vindaloo. 😃

1

u/Y2Reigns 5d ago

It's in Sutton but India Cottage is my go-to.

1

u/veenbeen28 5d ago

Lahore Karahi is great for take away and chai kadai

1

u/Cal_Trois 5d ago

India kitchen, used to choose chat house but India kitchen blows it out the water!

1

u/angrynerd81 4d ago

Karachi cuisine (Pakistani)

1

u/Available-Bicycle246 4d ago

Can I just add one thing... I love my lamb chops..

These restaurants sell "lamb chops" but theyre actually mutton chops. Mutton chops are tougher and larger and just arent as nice if not cooked correctly..

Absolute scammers.

1

u/ThorneofDorne 4d ago

Thanks everyone! This list will keep me going for the next year :)

1

u/bonkersbananers 4d ago

We love Sanderstead Tandoori! The Gurkha Naan in Purley is also great.

u/SmellsLikeColdDrinks 4d ago

SELSDON SPICE!!

That is all.

Or Planet Spice.

But the former is superior to me

1

u/SmellsLikeColdDrinks 4d ago

Also, more of a fusion than anything but Crown and Pepper is very consistently very good too. If you go in IRL, the staff are lovely too

u/bmr-1 4d ago

Chat House and Saffron in South Croydon are mint

1

u/Tiny_Significance384 4d ago

Are there any tiffin services local?

1

u/breadan1 3d ago

Chat House is too good man, no need to change

1

u/damesca 5d ago
