Advice / Question 💡 How much does your 4 month old drink in a day?

How many oz of formula does your 4 month old drink in a day, and at one time?

Mine used to be a somewhat decent sleeper but has been waking every 2-3 hours at night (before the 4 month sleep regression, from about 2.5 months). I feed him a lot during the day and his diapers are always super wet (day and night) so I feel like he’s getting plenty to eat. But his frequent wake-ups make me wonder if I should be giving him more during the day. I believe he is on the bigger end for his age.

Thanks!

Advice / Question 💡 Does Similac send out cans of formula?

My sister in law received in the mail today two cans of similac. Maybe it’s a promotional gift?? The problem is she’s currently going through a miscarriage so let’s just say she’s a little upset with this gift. Kind of a nail in the coffin. But I’ve never seen similac just give out two cans so I was wondering if this is a thing?? Don’t worry we posted to a mom’s facebook group the cans are free if anyone wants to take them and they are already being picked up so they won’t go to waste. These cans are expensive so what kind of promotion is this?

Weaning off formula🥛 Transition to whole milk?

My son was diagnosed with CMPA very early at only 2.5 weeks old after we saw lots of blood and mucus in his dirty diapers. We have been exclusively feeding him Nutramigen ever since then. He is now 10 months old and we’re preparing to transition him off of formula when he turns 1.

He’s a great eater (we’re doing baby-led weaning) and he has been tolerating dairy very well. Honestly, my gut feeling is that he’s probably grown out of CMPA by now because he’s eaten cheese and yogurt many times and hasn’t had any issues.

Should I still use caution when introducing whole milk? Is it better to do 50/50 milk and formula, or just go cold turkey? His pediatrician didn’t really give us clear advice and said it’s up to us, but I’m a nervous first-time mom so I’d rather someone just tell us exactly what to do lol. Any advice? Thank you!

Advice / Question 💡 reduced feeds

let me start by saying I am going to my Gp about this!
Baby is 5 weeks old. Has put on over a kilo since birth (now 4.04kg!). On average eats like 60ml feeds, 9-10 times a day. Wet nappies average 7-9 a day.
For the past three days her feeds have just changed. She was barely eating anything, averaging 20-25ml feeds, and reduced wet nappies (around 6 a day). Then she would have a random big feed (70ml) and go back to small feeds. She is otherwise completely normal and healthy. I have reached out to midwife and she said don’t worry too much if she’s still having wet nappies and is otherwise well. today she got her tongue tie released too. I will be going to GP to do some investigations.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?? I tell myself If i breastfed, i wouldn’t know how much she was eating and wouldn’t be over analysing as much.
Looking for some experiences and what the doctors can even do about this?

Rant / Vent 🫠 My MIL told me I was a "wimp"

My son is almost 2, so I can't believe I'm still dealing with comments like this.

My in-laws had a party this weekend, and the topic of breastfeeding came up, since several new moms attended.

I commended this new mom for EBF; I told her that my son's feeding sessions were so long when he was a newborn, it was just too exhausting for me to be up every 2 hours for over 45 minutes.

My MIL cut in and said, "WIMP, I was up every 1-2 hours with [husband's name], I was so tired I was walking into poles during the day."

My MIL is normally a very nice woman, and we have a good relationship. I was totally caught off guard.

This hurt me so badly. I experienced such a tremendous amount of guilt over stopping breastfeeding, and it took me months to move past it. I still experience twinges of it when I see a mom happily breastfeeding an older infant, as I never made it to that stage.

I still get this nagging feeling that I am weak, that I didn't try hard enough or sacrifice myself enough for my baby. I know this is irrational, as he is almost 2 and thriving.

Like, yes, you are amazing for EBF. I was literally saying how in awe I am of women who go through that. But you don't have to call me a wimp.

Advice / Question 💡 What does your nighttime routine look like?

I’m currently 18 weeks as a FTM and I’m trying to decide if I want to BF or use formula.

My Instagram feed is chocked full of “night shift” reels where an EBF mom handles every single last wake up. My husband really wants to be able to do at least half, if not more of the nighttime feedings while I’m healing and he’s on parental leave. This is part of the reason I’m leaning toward formula, or at least combo feeding. That being said, I really don’t have much of an idea of what a night of formula/combo feeding looks like!

What does your nighttime routine look like if you’re splitting shifts with your partner? Do you and your partner sleep in the same bed? How do you prep bottles? Anything you keep in your room that is a must have? Do formula fed babies really sleep longer, or is that an old wives tale?

Bottle Aversion / Feeding Refusal ❌ 4 month old twins refusing bottle pls advice needed

Hi all, dont know where this fits so posting here. English is not my first language so sorry for any mistak.

Right now my babies are 4 month and this problem is going on from the second month so i think its not some temporary problem.they are still hydrated, has wet diapers active and achieving milestone.

little bit of background i am first time mom of twin daughters via ivf, getting to pregnant was struggle of 6 years with lots of chemical pregnancy, 1 ectopic pregnancy,1 miscarriage and d&c, many ivf cycles and this was our last embroy last chance, and it happened i got pregnant, had terrible pregnancy with hypertension, gestational diabetes, continues vomiting and nausea for entire pregnancy lots of injection for daily and then kidney started leaking protein so had c section at 36 week plus 2 day, it was smooth process, babies weight was low 1.8kg and 2 kg but had no breathing issue, some low sugar but it resolved after feeding and no nicu, was discharged after 1 day, everything was fine well until it wasn't

first they were so small could not latch on breast, tried so many times after that started to pump and give them with spoon because everyone was against bottle, but they never cried for feed it was us who used to wake them which was taking like 30 min just to wake them with every trick possible in world than spoon feed, it was impossible task and they were still not latching on breast. I had worst postpartum depression which was ugly while pumping i will have suicidal thoughts and every worst possible scenario because i was in this vicious cycle of pumping waking both babies up feeding changing diaper making them sleep and again starting over so milk supply got low and for my sanity i stopped it and started formulamilk and i am not ashamed of it, well after that got Phillips avent natural Response bottle they were no use shifted to some local brand babies were feeding fine and happy at 4 week they reched to 120 and 90 ml and than everything got down hill.

Now my 1 twin at the 5 week started to take slowly, reduced milk intake which was like ok she is still taking, twin 2 was on and off. Then they completely stopped, try to spoon feed but no use ever tried dropper which was taking forever, went to lactation consultant said food aversion so stop force feed, change formula, bottle. did everything no use and now we are back to Philips bottle with flow 4 because babies are not taking old bottle.

Now my twin who loved to feed avoids bottle while awake like they will not take bottle in her mounth, only dream feed which is just 60 ml because she gets tired, went to so many pediatrician that i lost count every one shamed me for formula and said all problem is because of bottle ok well thanks for help, now i am afraid of going to any doctor

So now at 4 month my both twins are hardly having 400 to 450 ml milk daily and no doctor has any clue everyone is saying reflux and both are on reflux medicine.

After arguing with husband for 3 months finally went to dentist who specializes in posterior tounge tie and she said restrictions at tounge and type 3 lip tie, i know it gets overdiagnosed but from where i am no one belives in tounge tie and posterior tounge tie does not exist.

So if it is not tounge tie and kids are perfectly healthy and on reflux medicine should not they feed at ease why am i fighting with them for last 3 month, at 4 month should not it get easier.no one is helping me, me and my babies are measurable, they are hungry but cant do anything we are still waking up at every 2 hour just to feed them at night because at day time they are mostly awake.

So the symptoms i see in them are 1) only feeds in sleep and still struggles to make a latch 2) moves tounge randomly like does not know what to do and gets frustrated and does not try 3) cant take more than 60 to 45 ml in sleep too gets tired 4) always has milky tounge(not oral thrush doctor confirmed) 5) continuously clicking 6) upper lip tucked in and red 7) sometime use jaw to create pressure 8) takes 30 min to 60 min just for 60 ml milk to finish 9) noticed both has small, thick, white frenulum 10) easily gags 11) reflux 12) gas 13) milk coming out from corner of mounth 14) always tens when feeding like trying so hard to keep that latch 16) tounge stick out sometimes but not all the way

What we tried for 3 month 1) did not push to feed while awake. 2) tried to stop dream feed so they take while awake but it was no use so continue dream feed 3) changed formula for while but no use so back to original formula 4) changed bottle 5) tried flow 5 teat its no use tried slow flow no use 6) pls dont suggest dr brown baby does not like that and gag on that 7) tried to increase time gap to 4 hour still same result will take 30 ml to 40 and stop 8) tried to give only when baby cries, only take 45 ml and got tired and will stop

So what is it, is it tounge and lip tie, reflux, allergy or my babies are never hungry or i am doing something wrong(well according to every doctor and lc thats the case)

I am not active at all on any social media and if i am posting here u can assume how desperate i am

Please help me

Advice / Question 💡 Organic Kendamil making baby sick?

We usually feed our 6mo first infant cows milk kendamil but it seems to constantly sell out everywhere. Yesterday I went to 5 different shops and it had sold out everywhere so I ended up having to buy organic. This has happened a few times and each time it seems to make our baby spit up a lot?

Has anyone else had this? Is it possibly just because it’s a change in formula? I wouldn’t have expected organic vs not organic to be different enough to make baby sick?

Formula Prep 🍼 Enfamil neuropro yielding greater-than-expected volume after mixing in Dr Brown pitcher?

I've been feeding my son (8 months) with ready-to-use up until now, switched to powder two days ago. Every time that I've mixed powder with the Dr Brown pitcher, it seems to yield more total formula than it should. This morning, for example, I mixed 26 fl oz of Poland Spring water with 13 scoops of enfamil. Each scoop adds ~0.2 oz, so the yield should be around 28.6. However, it actually turned out to be more like 29.5, which would seemingly suggest I added almost 5 extra scoops which I definitely did not do. I counted carefully and leveled off each scoop per the instructions.

Can anyone say what I'm doing wrong here?

Rant / Vent 🫠 Walmart Canada Online is a dangerous joke. Holding my baby’s formula hostage, denying refunds, and lying just to inflate survey scores

I am so incredibly furious right now and need to vent. Never, EVER rely on Walmart Canada’s online service for essential baby items.
I ordered infant formula online, and it was scheduled to arrive yesterday. No tracking updates, absolutely nothing.
Here is how Walmart’s "customer service" handled a mother running out of baby formula:
1. The Flat-Out Lie for Survey Metrics: I called last night at 9:40 PM (it said by 10pm) to ask where the package was. The agent explicitly lied to my face and told me it was arriving "soon." It never came. It is clear they fabricated this lie just so I would give them a good rating on the post-call satisfaction survey after hanging up. This is manipulative, fraudulent corporate behavior.
2. Holding My Money Hostage: I called again today because my order is now officially delayed and I also have another order (total 10 formulas and other baby stuffs). The agent told me an "escalation team" would review it and get back to me in 2 to 3 days. I told them, "My baby cannot wait 2 to 3 days to eat! A baby needs formula NOW."
3. Denying Basic Solutions: I demanded an immediate refund so I could walk into a physical store and buy it, OR asked them to authorize a local branch to let me pick up the formula from the shelves. The agent completely refused both viable solutions. They are useless, completely incompetent, and just repeated the same 2-3 day script over and over. They are literally withholding my funds while failing to deliver essential infant nutrition.
4. A Broken, Monopolized Customer Support System: Walmart Canada has clearly outsourced their entire support network to a single demographic group with zero corporate oversight. There is absolutely no accountability. These agents don't care about Canadian consumers, they don't care about emergencies, and they act like they can choose whose order to delay without consequence.

The kicker? I just checked Uber Eats Grocery, and I can literally order the exact same formula to my door right now. There is no shortage; this is just Walmart's massive operational failure.
I tried to use Walmart's online service for convenience, and instead, I got severe anxiety, a starving baby, and a wall of scripted, indifferent customer service. It is absolutely NOT worth the risk.

Fuck Walmart Canada. If you are a parent, better go to buy in store. I know it will be extremely frustrating to single mom like me and just trying to use convenience way to order baby stuffs. But with that single demographic group? Trust me, their words are greater than their actions, Yet they got salary at the end for doing nothing!

Advice / Question 💡 Starting EFF

I am stopping my breastfeeding journey and I was wondering if anyone has tips to share about formula feeding and nights. My LO I’m guessing will be taking 2/3 bottles overnight and I was wondering about methods to make those feeding easy.

ideas ive had

-electric kettle in bedroom pre measure formula and add warm water when needed

-premix bottles keep in fridge (I have a mini fridge in my bedroom) and have bottle warmer in bedroom

-bedroom baby brezza (and then come to my bedroom during the day to make bottles?)

please let me know what worked for you!

Advice / Question 💡 Did you give powder from birth?

Our hospital suggests RTF for the first few weeks but we're running low and it's so damn expensive. She's 3 weeks old, was a full term baby, no health problems. She spits up once in a while but not a lot.

We should be ok to switch to powder right!?

Bottles / Feeding Gear / Equipment 🍼 Why is nipple collapsing?

We use nuk perfect match size S. Lately, LO has started collapsing the nipple (not every time but enough to think it's not just one bad bottle). She's a terrible feeder to begin with always screaming, popping off the bottle then screaming for more, clicking, leaking milk. I've seen all the specialists for feeding and no one either can or has interest in fixing it. I've tried sizing up to M but she does the same thing except she will pop off the bottle more often (like every 1-2 sucks) and won't finish the bottle so I'm worried the flow is too fast.

Can the nipple integrity just degrade really fast? I keep the bottle loosely shut and make sure the vent has no water. But we are a hard water area and sometimes there's hard water residue. Do you think that's it? Or should I keep with size M?

We've tried multiple brands (Mam, lansinoh, Dr Brown's) and this is the one she likes.

Weaning off formula🥛 Moving from formula to whole milk. How did you do it?

Hi all. Went to baby girls 1 year appointment today and she’s great and healthy. Ped said it’s time to move to whole milk and drop the bottles. Specifically, he said to finish off whatever formula I do have and then make the move. He also said to use a sippy cup/straw for whole milks, three times per day after each meal. I am really nervous as she really downs her bottles and loves them and she gets like 5/day. Anyways I have a question.

How did you guys transition? Did you do a mix of formula and whole milk as a way to wean? Did you go cold turkey (ped said he did that for his kids)? I am also wondering if I should start giving her her formula in a sippy cup, too, to at least make that aspect of the transition easier. Did anyone else do this? All tips welcome! Thanks!

Advice / Question 💡 Baby can only tolerate Similac Sensitive RTF?

I had a colic baby who screamed all the time, had GERD, torticollis, faltering weight, and occasional projectile vomiting until I stopped giving him pumped breast milk and only gave him Similac 360 Sensitive RTF. This formula is low lactose, but still has intact cow milk protein, so we know it's not CMPA. Every time I try to add even 10-20% of any other formula or breast milk to his diet, his symptoms come raring back within a couple days. Even the powdered version of Similac Sensitive doesn't do amazing by him, but not as bad as the others. I would really rather give him powdered formula for the cost, but this is the only thing that seems to make him happy. Has anyone heard of such a thing?????

I'm of course also talking with his pediatrician about this, but she hasn't heard of a situation like this before, so I just want to see if anyone has any anecdotal experiences or thoughts.

Please let me know if there's a better subreddit to post this to, I'm just so confused by the situation. Google says lactose intolerance is incredibly rare in babies 😵‍💫

Advice / Question 💡 Nutramigen/ alimentum

Hello! I am a first time mom F22 and I’m struggling to see which formula works best.

We started my two month old on similac sensitive since day one from the hospital which he seemed fine on but I noticed once he hit 2 weeks he was getting terrible rashes, mucus in his poop and eczema flare ups.

Pediatrician recommended we switch the similac AL and it was working for a while no diaper rashes barely any spit up and then all of a sudden he started spitting up every fed about 2-3 ounces and he was so gassy and would not poop for two- three days obviously he was super fussy and seemed like he was in pain.

So I did some digging and looked into different brands of hypoallergenic formula and nutramigen had glowing reviews, I seen same day results and people had a lot of good to say about it.

He’s been on this formula for 3 days now and he’s been keeping down the formula and seems to enjoy it more, but he is starting to get a rash again and his poop is almost a pastel light green clay color.

Is this normal?
Anyone else struggling with this like I am?
I feel like I’m doing something wrong because it seems like nothing is working.

Bottle Aversion / Feeding Refusal ❌ LO too upset to eat??

We've been experiencing feeding difficulties with our 2.5 month old since about 5/6 weeks. It started out with fussy feeds during witching hour but has now escalated to fussy feeds during day/evenings/early mornings too. The worst fussing seems to occur with LO is already crying from hunger. We show her the bottle, she seems excited and opens her mouth, but when we put the nipple in her mouth she cries and refuses to latch. Eventually we'll have to put her to sleep. Once she's calmed down or had a cat nap (1-5 min), then she'll finally calmly latch to the bottle and eat 1-3 oz (low/erratic volumes has also been an issue).

Has anyone else encountered this kind of behaviour? We've heard of feeding aversions and are implementing Rowena Bennetts strategies. LO has been refusing to feed in any position besides reclining on our laps...we've now gotten her to the point of looking excited when she sees the bottle for every feed but she seems to struggle a lot when she's really upset from hunger...almost like she's forgotten how to feed?? Any advice would be helpful.

Advice / Question 💡 Been stressed all day about nighttime mistake

In my sleep deprived state, I accidentally gave my 2.5 month old an old bottle of a little splash of already mixed and eaten formula and his 5oz of water. He was super fussy obviously and only drank about 3oz of this super watered down mix. I didn’t realize until later when I found the prepared bottle of powder that I didn’t use. I’m freaking out though. He’s been a little fussy today and has had trouble sleeping because of it but, other than that, has been interactive and normal. He’s also been eating like normal. I feel so so guilty!!! Will he be okay??? I have never made this mistake before and plan to never again. I’m usually super meticulous about his formula and ratios.

Support Needed / Guilt Related 🧸 Feeling guilt about EFF

I’d like to start off by saying thank god for formula, otherwise my LO would’ve gone hungry.

I’m feeling major guilt and sadness about exclusively formula feeding my daughter. She’s 2.5 weeks old and at about 4 days pp, we were told to supplement (she had lost 11% of body weight and was born early term) and we waited for my supply to come in. Worked with a lactation consultant consistently pre and post delivery (spent hours and hours and hours)… and started on strict triple feeding regimen 5 days pp. We did this for 10 days but my supply tanked over that period from just 3oz a day of breast milk to less than .25oz…. Essentially nothing is coming out. I can’t seem to find anyone else who has had this low of a supply and I feel a bit like a failure.

I am slowly ready and accepting I will be giving up breastfeeding, despite it being my dream to breastfeed my baby since I was a child. Looking for some support/pick me ups about how wonderful it can be to formula feed from any moms who are/were in a similar situation.

Drying Up 🌵 Severe breast pain

Hello! I just hit 4 days post partum with my first and as the title suggests am in severe pain, assuming from milk coming in.

They typically are pretty tender regardless and I have an extremely poor pain tolerance surrounding breast pain. That's a big reason I chose to stick to formula for him. I'd take labor pains pre epidural again over this.

I'll probably call my ob in the morning to see what he thinks, but if the only answer is to ride it out, what are some good ways to help dry them out and get relief? I'm already on ibuprofen for a small tear received during delivery and my ice packs are melting too fast from how hot they apparently are.

Thank you so much.

Weaning off formula🥛 Weaning?

He everyone! My little one is turning one soon! Any best practices for transition from formula to milk? We’ve been reducing overall how much formula she gets but haven’t done anything to start the milk process
