Question Curious 2 year old

My daughter has always been ‘aware’ of her vagina but recently she’s been very curious about it (pulling open, pinching etc.) I’ve noticed we’ve been telling her “don’t touch!” A lot more recently and I’m worrying it’s making her want it more lol. Has anyone ran into this or have any piece of advice to move forward??? I don’t know what to say or how to guide her..

Question What to do with toddlers hair tickling ears

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi! Im new here... I have an 18 month old girl and a 4 week old girl.. my 18 month olds hair is really fine (I have textured curly hair) and strait. Her hair is just now below her ears but not below her chin yet. Its long enough that I can put just the top section in a tiny ponytail on top of her little head... Her hair is just long enough to tickle inside her ears and she's constantly itching her ears. She refuses to keep anything on her head at all. Any recommendations on what worked for other moms whos stubborn toddlers refuse a hair band??

I had no clue that when kids hair is growing In for the first time it grows at all different lengths!

Question First period! Help!

So yesterday my 12 year old started her period. She was super chill about it because we have discussed what and how.

What I need now is some advice on some of the products out there now. When i was 12, it was pads and tampons. She seems to feel comfortable using pads and doesn't want to use tampons because she's not a fan of sticking it 'up there' - her words. I think that would rule out any sort of period cup.

How do period underwear work? She said her friend told her about it, but all I can think about is free bleeding and it going everywhere. So if anyone knows about these and uses or has used in the past, educate me, because I'm clueless.

Also I use regular pads - when I have my period that is - but i'm hearing that people are moving more to cloth pads for environmental reasons. What are your thoughts on those as well

Thank you!

Question Partners sister is about to have a little girl, what should I get her?

Post image

Hello, everyone!! My boyfriend’s sister is about to have her little girl VERY soon, literally within the next couple days, and I have no clue what to get mom! I was wondering what you guys would suggest? I was thinking of getting her some of her favorite chocolates or candies and some flowers, specifically pink roses (I’m not sure on her favorite color, but her middle name is Rose) among a few other things.

I’ve also been working on crocheting a blanket for her little girl and got an adorable little stuffed bunny for her too since I won’t be able to be present since I’m sick currently and won’t be visiting until I’m better for the safety of mom and the little one. My boyfriend will be there so my plan is to have him bring some of the things with him.

Question Advice

Hey mama’s! I have a 6 year old little girl and I’m just baffled at this point. She’s been having this issue with down there where she’s digging constantly…. Went to the urgent care they wrote it off as a diaper rash… i applied cream for 4 days 2x daily and it got better. Here we are like 3 weeks later and there’s a red lining down each side of her lip area and It looks red and irritated again. I’m not sure what’s causing it as we stopped bathing and went to showers, she’s not using soap down there just a wet wash cloth, her panties are looser and not too tight and they are washed in the gentle and free tide…. Has anyone else experienced this? :( I’m sure her digging all the time is irritating it more but i was trying not to draw attention to it in hopes she’d stop. Well she hasn’t… only thing that seems to have helped with the digging is if she runs around without underwear on. Any advice would help! Also, yes I’m planning on taking her back to the doctor…

Question 8 year olds hair falling out, help

i noticed about a month 1/2 ago that my 8 year old daughter was shedding a lot of hair after showers & brushing. i honestly didn’t think anything of it until i started noticing her hair all around the house! the floor, the couch, coffee table. i’m super surprised she doesn’t have any bald spots as much as it’s coming out. it’s super unusual because she’s never ever been one to shed a lot of hair.

concerned, i took her to the pediatrician where they ran all the usual labs. cbc, thyroid, vitamin d, anemia, all the good stuff. everything came out perfect with no findings. my daughter is a happy go lucky kid & is super laid back. is never worried about anything so when the doc mentioned maybe it was due to stress it made me second guess.

doc advised at this time we’ll continue to monitor but i was wondering if anyone could give me tips on how i can promote new hair growth & prevent additional shedding. wouldn’t hurt to hear if anyone has been through something similar w/ their children…trying not to freak out!

TIA!

Question Exploring body

I found my 3.5 year old daughter spread eagle looking at her own parts and pointing and asking what’s that to specific parts. Is this normal exploration for a 3.5 year old?

Question My daughter wants to do gel nails at home..

My 12 yo daughter has been begging me to let her get a gel nail kit to do her nails at home. I let her get gel nails once about a year ago and since then she has been asking me for it. I have been saying no because I just don’t have a great feeling about it and I’ve heard about people developing allergies from doing them at home. Her reasoning is that she wants to get better at doing designs, and with regular polish if she messes up, she has to take everything off, but with gel polish the base coat would be cured and she could just wipe the design off and wouldn’t have to redo the base coat. I have never been a person that even paints my nails much, and I don’t know much besides what I’ve seen on TikTok and what google tells me. This is out of my realm of knowledge lol. Just curious if anyone has insight or advice, or any other ideas for how she could practice her designs but not do the gel on herself. Maybe she could do them on press-ons?

Question My toddler is still sick!

My two year old came home with a strange rash on her leg. Since Monday she has had a wet cough, runny nose, a pink eye, and a fever of 102 that comes and goes every other day since Monday. We took her to the ER on Friday after the strange rash spread to her hands and face. The doctor did not suspect measles due to no lasting rash all over or pink eyes in both eyes. They did not test her for it nor any other viral infection. We left feeling frustrated and helpless. Has anyone else experienced this? My theory is this is a new viral infection that has mixed with the flu and or COVID As well as this new measles outbreak.

Question Kid friendly titanium earrings?

Hello all. I’m wondering if anyone has suggestions for shops that have cute, little kid friendly earrings with titanium posts (a la Pierced Co or Pip Pop). One of my kids has an awful allergy to seemingly everything but titanium and while I can convert dangly earrings, I’m striking out on posts. I’ll find 1-2 pairs, but most searches bring me to sites selling “sensitive” earrings made with surgical steel, despite never using the word sensitive.

Our piercer has some options and I’ve checked out body jewelry websites, but they’re all a bit boring when your friends can wear anything from Claire’s. Thanks.

Question Do you put shorts under their dress/skirt?

I grew up always wearing something underneath because of my thighs. I would get burnt really bad. Now that I have daughters I’ve had them wear something underneath. For me it’s more because I don’t want anyone seeing their undies. Just want to see everyone else’s pov.

Question Is something wrong?

I've had 2 boys and am so out of my element now that i have a daughter.

My daughter will be 4 months old in a couple weeks. I have an appointment scheduled but sometimes it feels like the pediatrician just writes concerns off. A few days after my daughter was born she had some blood (there's a streak of pink) in her diaper, which I knew could happen because of hormones. But I've noticed the last 2 months that when I have my period, she also has a bit of pink in her diaper. Google gave no answers outside of when they're born, but is this a normal thing?? It seems to line up with the end of my cycle, but I've only had 2 since having her and haven't heard of it happening after they were just born.

I'm even wondering if it could be a uti. There is no blood when she is wiped, only in the diaper, and it's pinkish.

Has anyone else seen or experienced this?

Question TV show recommendations

Hi! I’m looking for a series for my preteen daughter and I to watch together for the first time. Please provide any suggestions. I have Hulu, Disney, peacock, paramount plus, and am thinking about getting Netflix. We don’t watch much tv but it’s something we can relax and do on a cold evening or weekend. I’ll provide a short list of shows one or both of us have already watched or watched parts of.

Friends, the office, parks and rec, Emily in Paris, Ginny and Georgia, Pretty Little Liars, Boy Meets World, dance moms

Thank you.

Question Friends daughters 2nd birthday

I 24 F got invited to my friends 24 F daughters second birthday. She is currently the sole income provider and I know times have been tough. We were sitting down on the couch one day and I told her she was a good mom and her eyes welled up.

On her daughter’s birthday I would also like to get my friend a nice care package for thriving in motherhood for another year.

I don’t have kids but any suggestions as to what I should get her? I was thinking of self care items like some skin care? She mentioned that she’s been breaking out a lot :( so I’ll try to get her some stuff to help but if there are any items that moms don’t necessarily ask for but would really want please let me know🤍 She’s also just a girl

Question Rats nest hair, please send help!

My daughter is 3 and she has gotten this terrible tangly, knotty, snarly, rats nest in her hair right at the back of her head forever! I thought it was from sleep but I brush in the morning and it’s back in the evening. I thought it was the car seat but Covid proved that’s not it since we never go anywhere and it’s still here! I got her a leave in conditioner thinking that would help but it doesn’t.

So any advise, suggestions, tricks, tips, ANYTHING, I’m open! We already use Wet brushes but that’s where my knowledge ends 🤷🏻‍♀️ please help!

Question 8 year old struggling with body image

Tonight my 8 year old cried because she's not as skinny as her (very) skinny friend. Her friend is one of those just naturally twiggy girls. So I talked about different body types, etc. Then she said she doesn't like the fat on her legs or her arms because she's not skinny. For context, she has a gaggle of girlfriends who are tall and lanky and athletic. This just isn't her buildn) or her set of interests. She's certainly not unhealthy (what she grabbed on her legs I consider muscle) and these comparisons are breaking my heart... any tried and true tips/convos you've had that worked?...
