Help! USG Fiber 5.1.15/Network 10.4.57 - Release Candidate

Seems that after an upgrade on Tuesday morning to the latest RC on my UCS Fiber Gateway - literally from the update I do daily at 4am - my "packet loss" stat climbed to 33.3% exactly and has stayed steady ever since. Rebooted once and even did a packet test - the 33.3% doesn't seem to be real so I'm guessing something in the GUI mis-reporting things?

Granted I'm on a RC because I've been hoping for some new fixes on problems I've reported that are "impacting" but I can confirm the behavior of what its reporting is not what I'm seeing IRL.

Discussion How to add SSH key authentication

I need to use an SSH key to access my UNAS Pro. I found this link:
https://help.ui.com/hc/en-us/articles/235247068-Adding-SSH-Keys-to-UniFi-Devices

but the path to the OpenSSH authorized_keys file doesn't appear on the UNAS Pro. Appreciate any instruction on where to either paste the key, or copy over the id_rsa.pub key file. Thanks.

UtR has been sound out for a long time. I keep seeing it on Amazon for 3x and 4x the price. Is there active scalping going on? Is this normal for UniFi?

Discussion Sky Q issue with Unifi

Hi Everyone,

I live in the UK and have Sky Q which compromises of one main Sky Q box and 2 mini boxes. I have a UDR 7, USW Flex Mini, USW-Lite-16-PoE, U7 Lite AP and an old AC Mesh. My Sky boxes are hardwired the main box and one of the mini boxes plug into the USW Flex Mini and the other mini into the USW-Lite-16-PoE.

Everything has been working flawlessly until yesterday when my UDR updated to Network version 10.4.57. My main Sky Q box keeps showing connected then disconnected inside the Sky interface. I have tried all sorts. I have changed the port on the switch changed the network cable and even factory reset the Sky box going into the engineers menu. I also disconnected everything from the UDR 7 and just plugged the Sky box straight into that and it was still the same

I have a Vodaphone 5g broadband router that I take away with me so I decided to power it on and connect the Sky box to that with the same cable and the Sky box remains stable and connects to the internet but as soon as I plug it back into the Unifi Switch it starts going connected disconnected.

I have YouTube, TikTok blocked trying to get SamsungTV/Plus blocked but traffic keeps getting through.

I’ve restarted my Dream Router 7 and the Tv multiple times.

I also tried blocking using the App, but only see SamsungPoP.

Any way to block it?

I added my phone to the list to test but when I go to Samsung.com it still loads.

Discussion Using UDM as a backup drive - Hotswap or hide

OK this is a bit off-piste, but as we all know, ransomware is everywhere, so I would like to create a harddrive that I can effectively disconnect and that holds data that is precious to me.

And, my UDM Pro has one harddrive slot that is empty.

You see where I'm going with this.

Is there some way I can safely pop this drive in and out of the UDM Pro, or ideally just unmount it (I'm sure that's hidden enough for most ransomware) but occasionally mount it, backup, unmount?

Fun fact, my first accidental attempt at a hotswap (I didn't realise I had a small drive in there, previously used for Protect but I deleted protect off UDM moved it to my new UNVR!) caused the network app to crash! Why?

Help! Help - Can’t set up UX7 from UDM backup…

Please help an uneducated UniFi user…

Hello. I am really struggling with this and looking for a bit of guidance. I have a simple home network and I was convinced by a friend to dip my toe into Ubiquiti when I had fibre to the property installed in 2021. Since then I’ve added Switches and ACs around the house to improve the network.

I’m in the UK, have Zen internet to the property, and I have the modem connected to a Dream Machine for WAN access. I don’t use the service provided modem/router (Fritz box) and is connected direct to the ONT. I have the PPPoE username and password entered into it and it’s worked fine since install.

Recently (last 6 months or so) I’ve been dealing with failing hardware with the UDM constantly switching to 100mbps limits across the ports, and the only way to get back to 1Gbps is by doing power cycles. Decided I’d had enough and purchased a new UX7 to replace it. I read all I needed to do was backup the UDM and set up the UX7 from that backup.

I cannot get it to work. I have set it up multiple times (then factory reset) and I can’t get the UX7 to replace the UDM. I get as far as it being a part of the network topology but it always wants me to ‘adopt’ the UX7 in and it doesn’t work. I read I shouldn’t be adopting and it should replace. I can run through the set up without issue and doing back ups from full to just network only isn’t achieving what I need.

To clarify, I have backed up the UDM then unplugged it from the network. I then set up the UX7 using a back up of the UDM, it gets as far as into the network management but under devices it is listed as ‘Ready to Adopt’ rather than taking over from the UDM and doesn't recognise the WAN. If I do adopt it then it locks up and I have to do a factory reset again. If I adopt with the UDM still in the network then it just becomes an AC as expected.

I haven’t done a full set up as a new network, I was trying to avoid this, but I think it might be the only step I can do to get it working.

Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Any idea why they would be going there for traffic? As soon as I blocked the one on port 23, the one on port 22 was giving me instructions to factory reset to adopt.

Routing & Switching Advice on PoE switch

I could use some advice of which switch to choose. I need a switch that can handle 2.5Gbps and I need at least one PoE output port to power a VoIP phone.

I’m considering two options:

1) a Flex Mini 2.5G + a PoE injector
2) a Flex 2.5G PoE

The first option would obviously be the most cost effective. Any reason to go with option 2 beyond the future expandability argument?

Discussion Unifi OS Server Needs to be Manually Started Everyday

Chasing an annoying issue where Unifi OS server stops running at some point everyday until manually started. We’re running version 5.1.15 on a Windows server. The server is not crashing as it is running many other services. Just have to login every morning and launch OS server and it’s good for the day. Anyone experienced this or have ideas what to look at?

Help! UNIFI-OS-SERVER & Manually removing devices

Hi All,

I've got an issue with an access point stuck in my controller - i did a reset on the device using ssh with a view to re-adopting regarding an issue I was having, the device vanished from the web gui so i couldnt then "forget" it.

I've had this kind of issue in the past with the previous unifi network application app we used to run before we migrated to Unifi OS server as it kept telling us to do.

On the old setup you could get on the controller's SSH shell and run a mongo command to remove the device but alas the new setup this isn't directly accessible as unifi os server is all containerized now from what I understand.

I've got a support thread going with unifi on this but feels like have been jumping through hoops for days looking unrelated things rather than them just telling me how to do this in the new version got other jobs I need to be moving on to so if i can fix myself quicker that would be good.

Has anyone had this on unifi os server and managed to get access to the mongo or equivalent shell to manually remove?

Thanks

Routing & Switching Help me choose: UCG-Max (Fiber) or UDR-7 for a new 8Gbps Dual-WAN setup?

Switching to a dual-WAN setup soon. Downgrading my current ISP to 150Mbps and adding a new, incredibly cheap 8Gbps fiber line. I don't use IDS/IPS. I don't need 8Gbpss, 2.5 is more that enough...but there is only 1Gbps and 8Gbps options

My current UXG-Ultra won't cut it , so I'm torn between two upgrades:

  • UCG-Fiber: Better routing CPU and performance, but I have to keep using my existing AP mesh (mix of U6/U7/Express) to cover the house.
  • UDR-7: Built-in WiFi 7 lets me ditch one of my older APs and simplifies the living room setup. It does everything I need right now, even if it's technically less powerful than the Max.

I'm leaning toward the UDR-7 for simplicity, and real world performance since more of my devices with get 1GBPS+ due to the better wifi 7 coverage... anything I'm missing?

Help! Making sense of UNAS Pro IP address

Hi, I am a noob trying to make sense of how my hardware is connected via IP address. If you followed my old posts, I built a Ubiquiti system from scratch and learned along the way. But again, I'm new to this, so I may not use the correct terminology or understand exactly how things work. I'm here to understand how it works.

  1. My modem/gateway is covered by my ISP
  2. I have a Dream Machine
  3. I have a UNAS Pro
  4. I operate via Windows
  5. I have SMB checked in Unifi in order to access my files via explorer, so my UNAS Pro has its own IP address accessible
  6. I originally accessed all of my files via Explorer under \\UNAS-Pro\ as opposed to a specific IP
  7. I originally set up PleX to connect with \\UNAS-Pro

A few months ago we had a power outage, and this caused the \\UNAS-Pro address to no longer work. I had to use another ip "\\192.196..." Currently, I cannot access my files via \\UNAS-Pro, but only with the 192 ip address. And I don't know why. I also don't know why the ip address itself changed, but I'm assuming that happened when my ISP was shut down.

What I'd like to know is how I can ensure via Unifi that I can use \\UNAS-Pro, or make permanent a "\\192.168..." address in case I ever have a power outage again. What is the best practice? Due to my media, I have to add a new folder with PleX whenever the ip resets. Thanks!

Routing & Switching Problem with Flex XG

Hi there, I have the Flex XG connected to an SFP+ port via Unifis own 10g adapter. Suddenly the FlexXG negotiate 5Gb on that port and as soon as I move some date between that and the NAS sitting on the same Aggregation switch the Flex goes offline or bitrate go to 0. I tried switching ports, adapter, cable etc nothing worked.

The SFP port says it's port is flapping sometimes also.

Anyone had similar problems with the Flex XG, is it suddenly broke?

Help! Package Loss. How to troubleshoot?

So basically my unifi is complaining about package loss. but honestly the internet just works fine.

Ping to 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 are quickly back (2-3ms) and no package loss when run from my wired pc.

My dashboard currently looks like this:

and under the new detailed view i see this:

Again ping to 8.8.8.8 / 1.1.1.1 from my pc is fine (which is basically ping.ui.com).

Hardware: UCG Fibre with a XGS Pon Media Converter

Help! Need help before pressing the buy button

Hi! I am building my house and want to use unifi for cameras network and access. Security either Ajax or paradox.

Street Gate: G6 Entry outside -> UA-Hub-Door Relay 1 = Pedestrian strike. Relay 2 (Aux) = Car gate motor.

Front Door: motorized multi-point lock -> G3 Reader outside -> UA-Hub-Door-Mini. Using the Mini's dry contact to trigger the motor.

Garage: G3 readers + Hub Minis to trigger the main garage door motor and the internal garage-to-house door.

Automation: Using Home Assistant to avoid double-scanning. If Protect camera detects line-crossing at the porch AND the street gate was unlocked in the last x mins -> HA unlocks the front door.

A few questions:
Has anyone here triggered a motorized multi point lock? using a Hub Mini's dry contact? Is it reliable? Siegenia/Winkhaus or other?

Since the base G6 Entry has no screen, is it seamless to just trigger the street Hub's Aux relay (car gate) via the UniFi app or HA dashboard?

How is the UWB on the G3/G6 readers? Is it truly "hands in pocket" with an iPhone/Apple Watch, or do you still have to wake the device?

My street gate Hub will be in the house rack (~30 meters away from the gate). Assuming I run thick enough wire (2x1.5mm²), will voltage drop for the 12v pedestrian strike be an issue, or should I really put the hub at the gate?

Thanks!

Discussion Protect Viewport - Worth it ?

Good day everyone !

Just wondering if it's worth it to buy the Protect Viewport. I'm looking to display it on a TV, and I saw a few posts on Reddit that mentioned it was not that good.

For those who are currently using it, especially on a TV, how has your recent experience been with the Protect Viewport?

Thank you 😁

Routing & Switching Double NAT problem

I bought a Unifi DreamMaschine and connected it between my router (Cudy P5) and PC. In my Unifi interface it is indicated that I have a Double NAT. I've already tried to turn off the NAT in my DreamMachine, but then I don't have any internet anymore. How do I get it to get rid of the double NAT to open ports. I already tried to activate Bridgemode on my router but it didnt seem to work. Disabling NAT in my Dreammaschine only makes my Internet unusable. (solved)

Help! Replacing main switch

Hi guys,
After several power outages, my main switch started throwing errors(in the logs) and went into a reboot loop, so I’m planning to replace.
It has the FortiGate connected to it, a Cloud Key(gen2plus)on one port, and uplinks to 3 other switches(as simple as that 😅)
The Cloud Key is still powered on, but it shows “Ethernet Disconnected”, which I assume is because the main switch is currently not working.
My plan is to:
Replace the switch with a new USW-24
Update the DHCP reservation on the FortiGate with the MAC address of the new switch
Connect the FortiGate and Cloud Key first after that the uplink cables to the other switches.
My question is: since the Cloud Key is still running, will the new switch receive the existing configuration? or is there anything specific I should watch out for during the replacement?
Any advice or experience would be appreciated.🍻
