Anyone know where to find captive bred Emperor scorpions in Canada??

1 Upvotes

I’m having trouble finding a captive bred male Emperor scorpion from an ethical breeder that either ships to Canada or is based in Canada. I’ve been looking for months, and anytime I think I’ve found someone they either don’t ship to Canada or they aren’t ethical. If anyone knows where to find a captive bred male emperor scorpion can you please help me out and let me know 🙏🙏

How should I care for pill bugs?

1 Upvotes

I’m not sure if this fits here, but I’ve been wanting to start keeping pill bugs as pets, but I’m not sure where to start. I have a basic idea of what to do, but I don’t know what I should keep them in (in terms of size), and I’m not sure what to do for food or dirt. Any help would be appreciated!

Invertebrate ideas

Hello everyone. I am trying to get ideas about what to put into this tank. The dimensions are:
L: 11.5 inches
W: 15.5 inches
H: 5.5 inches

Please ignore the moss, I tried growing sphagnum moss in this container and changed my mind. So they’re going to be relocated to another container. Any ideas? Thank you!

Centipede or Tarantula?

1 Upvotes

I live in Australia so I can only keep native inverts, this unfortunately leads to only having more "dangerous" varieties available. I've kept wolf spiders and isopods but that's the extent of it.

I've ALWAYS wanted to keep tarantulas and centipedes, however I would have to keep them in my room and I have a cat. I would be devastated if something happened to her (she's a big fluffy 5kg black cat lol). I have already got previously used sliding magnetic lid acrylic invert enclosures, however I'm happy to get something more secure if needed.

These are the species available in my area;

Tarantulas;

- Phlogius sp. Stents

- Phlogius sp. Kuranda

- Phlogius sp. Proserpine

- Coremiocnemis sp Semi Social Pygmy

Centipedes;

- Ethmostigmus rubripes

So which would be best? Thank you :)

Are these appropriate anchor points?

All I had was these long leaves left over from my tarantula rehousing. The species in question is a Southern House Spider.

Sorry about the reflection in the glass, also Bingus (B. Auratum) is photobombing over on the right side.

Zilla micro enclosure small arboreal inhabitant?

2 Upvotes

So I picked up the enclosure mentioned in the title, it's 4x4x8 inches and I was originally planning for a jumping spider. However, now I'm also wondering what else could fit in there in terms of arboreal invertebrates. Obviously a jumping spider would work, since it was recommended to me for that, but what else could fit in something so small?

Beetle Jelly for Texas Ironclad?

Post image
6 Upvotes

We are new Texas Ironclad Beetle parents and want to make beetle jelly, but aren't sure if they like the typical "banana, honey" types of jelly. We were thinking of using agar-agar, powdered dried lichen, mushroom powder, some sweet potato, and spirulina for our mix.

Has anyone had experience with making custom jelly for their particular beetle's diet? Any tips? Things we should leave out or add?

Pet Giant Water Bug

5 Upvotes

Hello everybody, I’ve had my pet GWB for about a month now. When I first got it, it wasn’t that hungry. But a few days later, I fed it a ghost shrimp and it ate it. Then a week later, it ate another one. But it’s been about two weeks and it hasn’t eaten yet. A feeder goldfish has been chilling in the tank with it the whole time. The GWB looks fine, it chills in a spot, gets air when it needs it, goes back. I even tried feeding it a live mealworm with tweezers but no reaction. Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Is it time to put Lila down?

Post image
108 Upvotes

Not sure where to post, as it’s hard finding others who keep injured butterflies, but i’m feeling really worried about Lila.

She is a 5 week old cethosia penthesilea (orange lacewing butterfly. Their typical average lifespan in the wild is 7-10 days and she has gone way past that. She emerged with a crumpled wing so i took her in to care for her. On the exact same day my mother found an injured Common crow butterfly at work, and brought her home to me. So Lila got a friend. They would always roost together, find spots to sleep, explore the enclosure, climb and come down to feed. Common Crows typically live a lot longer than Orange Lacewings (11-13 weeks), and lately i’ve seen the effects of old age hitting Lila. Her friend Queenie can still climb, but Lila’s tarsi must be worn down or maybe she’s too weak and she just can’t climb anymore. She needs help with everything now and just sits there sadly. I’m happy taking care of her, but if she can’t even climb and explore, what kind of life is that anymore? I’m even more sad, as i brought them a new buddy named Omelette who’s wings are worse than Lila’s but she’s up roosting with Queenie like Lila used to. And Lila is simply too weak to get up there.

She doesn’t seem to be suffering, but i know she’s on her last few days. Should i let her pass naturally in her enclosure or just euthanise her now?

Baby Wolf Spider

9 Upvotes

So, I was doing an experiment based on a YouTube video where they took some dirt and leaves from outside with a plant and put it in a jar to see how things developed over time in an enclosed ecosystem. After a day or so, I popped the jar to let the air cycle, and a little baby wolf spider(I'm fairly sure it's a wolf spider) was at the rim of the jar. I was so suprised that a spider was in the leaves I grabbed, but I transferred them into a tiny Tupperware with some dort and egg carton. I will try to get a decent picture soon, they are very tiny.

So, my question is, if this IS a wolf spider....would it be unethical to keep them as a pet as they grow? Should I release them? I've already fed them a couple fruit flies I caught in my house. I have the ability to give them bigger enclosures as they grow. And to feed them as well. So, really I just want to know if it would be too stressful to keep them as a pet since they are wild, or if since they are a baby, they will grow to not be so afraid of me?

I've recently lost my bearded dragon to stomach cancer so, I'd love to welcome a new friend....I just want to know if it would be not good for them to stay with me long term.

Thanks in advance for any advice on this and care tips for a wolfie.
