Help! Tank questions

My pet crab passed a couple months ago (rip Radius) and I was thinking of getting a pet tarantula and reusing his old tank, would a 10 gallon aquarium tank (20'' 12'' 10'') be appropriate for an adult B. smithii? If not are there any other beginner tarantula species you'd reccomend? I also just have a standard aquarium top, would that be ok or should I swap to a mesh one?
