Politics whats actual LOCAL changes you would want to see in Mesa?

I’m talking about changes in Mesa, not all around AZ. I feel like when I try to talk about local changes with people it turns into a whole conversation about state/country changes instead of local, so I want to hear what people have to say

"The unofficial results released Wednesday show Turning Point Action lost a majority of the SRP board seats to Clean Energy Team candidates. However, two Turning Point Action candidates — Chris Dobson and Barry Paceley — did win SRP president and vice president, respectively."
"The Clean Energy Team was expecting to be outspent by a 10-to-1 margin by Turning Point Action, the political arm of Turning Point USA, the Phoenix-based conservative activist group founded by the late Charlie Kirk."

Politics SRP Elections- Mesa residents who are SRP customers

Did you know that you can vote on the cost of your power bill this April? I know my household REFUSES to vote for people endorsed by Turning Point USA aka Charlie Kirk and by extension, Erika’s Kirk’s foundation.

If you are an SRP customer, here’s what you can do. Local Elections matter.

For ease, here are the endorsement pages: https://www.tpaction.com/srpendorsements

❌ Data center companies are spending half a million dollars in the local SRP race to back candidates who will expand data centers and pass the costs onto our energy bills.

✅ Vote for the SRP Clean Energy Team slate, which is getting $0 from data center interests. They’re running to make data centers pay their fair share and stop our bills from going up.

You have not yet requested your SRP mail-in ballot, and TOMORROW (Friday, March 27) at 5pm is the deadline to do so! We are expecting historic turnout in this race, and hundreds of your neighbors have already voted.

Can we count on your support for the SRP Clean Energy Team? Respond YES and we’ll send you details on how to request a ballot and vote in this election.

Politics My post yesterday got me wondering

This might be a given, but I think there is gonna be a mix.

Would you rather have a young candidate (18, 19, or 20 years old) who is politically driven, or a 55-year-old candidate who is driven by the people funding their campaign?

I’m curious because I think people might consider the young person who wants actual change, but some might want experience. Figured I’d ask

Politics Is it just my luck or…

This is the second house I have moved to in the city of Mesa, AZ and I still have one neighbor out of the 3 that touch my backyard fence throwing their dog shit over into my yard. It’s apparent which neighbor it is due to the location of where the dog shit lands in my yard but like WHY?

I’ve talked to some people already about the situation and they think it’s a kid doing his “poop scooping” chores but instead of throwing it away for his parents tosses it over the wall into my yard.

What would your next steps be?

Politics Recall? For what? Support Voter's Decision.

Is anyone paying attention to the recall election for Mesa City Council? I am so sick of TP doing whatever they can to take over local politics. They are counting on the statistical low voter turnout for the Nov. special elections to oust someone who received an overwhelming amount of the vote for district 2.
They are pissed about a vote to create housing for people on the street. The alternative is using police to usher them from one place to another or let them die of heat exhaustion.
Reddit and Nextdoor are full of comments from people who are on the verge of homelessness, living paycheck to paycheck, some with children. There are many people who are struggling to stay housed. We don't need another unempathetic sociopath in office. We don't need to politicize a local government position where voters have the most direct access to their elected officials.
Please keep Julie Spilsbury in her seat. We need more kindness in politics. We need people who actually serve the community not just the ones with the most money.

Politics Mesa - ICE 287(g) Agreement Data and Information

Hey Everyone, I’m a Mesa resident and a public policy researcher. Some of my research focuses on how policies spread across local governments, and a really current and important topic relevant for Mesa is ICE 287(g) agreements.

Quick background: Mesa has had a 287(g) “Jail Enforcement Model” agreement with ICE for about 16 years. In simple terms, when someone is arrested and booked into a Mesa facility, their immigration status can be checked and they can be transferred to ICE custody.

Why this matters now: Mesa’s own transparency data shows releases to ICE more than doubled in 2025 (from 124 to 253). The data also shows some interesting patterns about who’s affected:

- 81% had no prior arrests with Mesa PD (first-time contacts)

- Most charges are misdemeanors, warrants, and traffic-related offenses

- Peak ages are 20-44 (working-age population)

I recently reached out to the City Council with some questions and got very different responses from different members. I’ve written a longer analysis on my policy blog breaking down all the data and what research shows about these programs’ impacts.

Whether you support or oppose 287(g), I think the data is worth understanding. Happy to discuss or answer questions about what the research shows.

Here’s the link to the longer write up if you’re interested: https://polimetrics.substack.com/p/when-city-officials-say-trust-us

Soon it will be one year since 14-year old Emily Pike disappeared from McKellips & Mesa Drive in Mesa. She was eventually found mu*dered, northwest of Globe, her remains found in trash bags in a remote area northwest of Globe, AZ. Her case remains unsolved, with a $200k reward for tips leading to an arrest. Please join us for a gathering / walk in her memory and solidarity with her grieving family, MMIW/MMIP and Native community, especially San Carlos Apache Tribe.

Politics Anyone know if replies reach anyone from mass texts?

Post image

I’ve been really frustrated lately with these misleading and manipulative mass texts from Republicans, and it scares me to think that people might believe this without looking anything up. I couldn’t find the bill this text refers to, but I read about Lorena, and it seems like if the GOP is trash-talking them, they must be doing something right! My guess is that their pronouns were too triggering for their little, bigoted brains.

Keep defending Mesa, Lorena 👍

Politics Group protesting Andy Biggs this morning?

Good morning,

I was on US-60 this morning when I saw group putting up signs on the bridges above. The signs read something like “BIGGS HARMS VETS” and “BIGGS PROTECTS PEDOS”. I’m wondering if anyone can help me get into contact with this group as I’m interested in speaking with them. Thank you in advance

Politics Mesa Council Candidates 2026

Post image

The signature deadline has passed making this the slate for 2026 candidates. For District 4, that race will be decided on July 21, 2026. For 5, none of those candidates are likely to take the majority and it will go to a runoff in November. For 6, he obviously will just be reelected.

Politics I want to serve and improve people’s lives, so I’m getting into politics in the area

Hello everyone.

I’m the sidequest guy, and I first wanna start by thanking everyone who left a nice comment and dmed me about my first post. I really appreciate it and I’m looking forward to meeting with and talking to everyone.

However this post is about something different. I have always enjoyed solving people’s problems, feeling useful and like I’m making a positive impact on the world. Maybe it’s narcissism or a fear of dying without a legacy or some other personality disorder, but Ives always wanted my actions to improve the lives of people who are born after I’m gone. I want to make this world better, to help steer it in the right direction and give humanity the best shot at a prosperous future. And over the last year I’ve become convinced that the best way for me to do that is by getting political.

That’s why I’ve decided to reach out on here to ask what the best way to get locally involved would be. Whether it’s organizations, city council meetings, or just talking to individuals on the street, I’d like to know how I can best serve. Please let me know what ideas you have. I greatly appreciate it.
