Cunversatzione When is the best time to visit Sardinia? Here's the honest answer...

My partner and I have been helping people plan trips to Sardinia for several years. As we get into January, I've always noticed a spike in people asking the same question on this subreddit so here's a quick breakdown.

September = Perfect. Water's warm (been heating all summer), Italian families gone home, weather still great, restaurants aren't slammed. This is the month we generally recommend.

June = Solid. Before the Italian domestic tourism surge. Good weather, comfortable water temperature for swimming, restaurants manageable.

July-August = Chaos. All of Italy comes to Sardinia. Roads packed, restaurants need reservations, uncomfortable heat, everything expensive. Only come if you have school kids and no choice.

May = Cool water. Beautiful on land, but sea is on the cold side for most people. Fine if you're exploring towns/hiking rather than beach-focused.

October = Easing Off. Early October can work, but direct flights start disappearing. You'll likely need connections by late month.

Winter = Culture, not beach. Can get 20°C days or freezing depending on Mistral wind. Stick to major towns (Cagliari, Alghero, Sassari). Limited flights through Milan/Rome. Good for food/culture, not swimming.

Critical: Always check direct flight availability first. Sardinia isn't as straightforward as other destinations. No direct flight = long travel day.

Ferry note: Ferries exist but stay very expensive in peak season. Flights are more reasonable.

Happy to answer questions in the comments below or drop me a DM.

Cunversatzione Posada, which bikes to bring?

We will spend 2 weeks in Posada in a few days. We will bring our bikes and plan to ride approximately 80-150 km a day, depending on elevation and road conditions. Now I'm wondering if we should bring our gravel bikes or road bikes? We don't want to ride on busy streets and prefer bike paths or small roads without much car traffic. I have no idea about the condition of these smaller roads or bike paths in the posada area so I'm hoping to get some advice here.

Pregonta North or South?

Hi!
This will be my third consecutive year visiting Sardinia. During my first two trips, I mainly explored the northern part of the island, so I’ve already visited La Maddalena, Alghero, Castelsardo, and even reached Olbia. Last year I also spent time around Santa Teresa Gallura, Bosa, and explored many of the famous beaches such as Cala Luna. I also did several boat trips to discover the coastline and hidden coves.

This year, I’m considering doing something different and heading south to explore places like Villasimius and the surrounding area. I would love to hear your recommendations and whether you think it’s worth it.

The main goal of my trip is to find the most beautiful turquoise waters and the best spots for snorkeling and diving. I’m especially interested in marine life, underwater scenery, and places where I can experience Sardinia’s sea at its best.

I will have a car with me, so I have complete freedom to move around the island. I’ll be staying for seven days and arriving by ferry in Porto Torres, but I’m flexible and can drive anywhere if it’s worth the trip.

Based on those interests, what areas, beaches, or diving/snorkeling spots would you recommend the most? :)

Notítzia/News Le Dune Piscinas?

I am planning first trip to Sardinia. Begin in Cagliari (seeking hotel recommendations there--luxury price--up to $2000) euro night.. is ok)

From there, with a rental car, hope to drive along the west coast and spend a few nights at LE DUNE. Looking for comments on anyone who has been. Their pool is not heated and I aim an avid swimmer.....would water temperatures be ok in early June? From there, on to Alghero (VILLA LAS TRONAS??)....and I will post another series of questions about that leg of the trip. Main interests are scenery, swimming in warm water (I am a lap swimmer) and food.... We have a generous budget but are not looking for bling and glitz on the Costa Smeralda..

Pregonta Bars/lounges with late night Music/dancing

Hey guys , going to be in the east coast for a couple of of nights , was wondering if anyone had recommendations for cool upscale bars/restaurants that turn a little “clubby” as the night goes along (not sure how to describe it better !)- DJ , opportunity to get up and dance and socialise etc .

Not really into Nightclubs (hence not really looking at Ritual and some others) but love the active bar scene . Thanks in advance !

Pregonta Spiaggia La Pelosa Tickets

Staying near Spiaggia La Pelosa early August. I see I need tickets for the beach and they release 48 hours before from the authorized site. Is this like a guarantee I’ll be able to purchase when the site goes live or could I be screwed?

I see there are unauthorized resell sites and don’t know if they’re legit. (lapelosa-tickets.com)

I just dont want to go all this way for a vacation and not be able to go to the beach I booked the trip for lol

Pregonta Car rent

Hi everyone,

I’ll be arriving at Alghero Airport soon and I’m looking to rent a car. The issue is that I don’t have a credit card, only a debit card, and I can also pay cash if needed for the deposit.

Does anyone know of any car rental companies at or near Alghero Airport that accept debit cards or cash deposits for the security deposit? I’d really appreciate any recommendations, websites, or personal experiences.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Pregonta Sardinia without a car: where to stay on the Baunei coast?

Hi everyone!

We’re planning a trip to Sardinia without a car and would love some advice.

Would it be better to fly into Alghero or Cagliari if our main goal is to stay on the Baunei coast and visit places like Cala Goloritzé, Cala Mariolu, and Cala Luna using buses, walking, and boat tours?

For a 4–5 day stay, where would you recommend staying as a base on the Baunei coast?

After that, we’re thinking of spending our last couple of days closer to the airport before flying home. We’ll be relying entirely on public transport.

Any tips from people who have done a similar trip would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Pregonta Where to base my stay in Sardinia??

Going to Sardinia for the first time! My partner and I will be there for 7 days (I know not enough time to take in everything the island has to offer). But I’m struggling to pick where I want to base the stay, we will be renting a car so we can travel around more. Does anyone have any recommendations? We are hoping to stay up north to hit La Perlosa, Alghero, La Maddalena and any other places that you think are a must see! I’ve been looking at staying in San Pantaleo but unsure if it’s best to be closer to the coast?! From confused tourist.

Pregonta consigli?

Buongiorno principi e principesse!
Grazie mille in anticipo!

Hello! I'm visiting Sardegna with my family, and I keep seeing this matchstick graffiti around Alghero. Does anyone know if there is a story behind it? I think it's beautiful, and I have a very similar tattoo. I'm curious if there is a political meaning? I don't know much about Alghero subculture or politics, and would love to learn more.

Pregonta Top local recommendations for swimming & eating in the Northeast?

We are two adults spending 3 nights around the Romazzino area with a rental car looking for more off-radar beaches and restaurants avoiding the overcrowded, ultra-lux spots. We tend to prefer a more unorganized local beach vibe for a good swim over pricy yacht drops and seeking rustic tavernas serving simple, local cuisine over Michelin stared or overhyped restaurants. Would love to hear from locals and experienced travelers on this one!

Pregonta Cala Brandinchi Sunbed Rental

Can you book a sunbed on the official Cala Brandinchi website or is it only for the entry tickets? I found other websites to book the sunbeds online, but I am unsure if they are legit (linked below). Has anyone used these?

I am going in this July so I want to ensure I have a spot since it’ll be so busy.

Pregonta Boat Rental

Ciao everyone,

I’ll be staying near Olbia from July for an entire month. Is it possible to rent a small boat so I can have my own excursion? I’ve never driver a boat so that is a factor. I’ve heard that no license is necessary for small boats. Please confirm. Also, I’m on a tight budget. I’ll have a car so I’m willing to drive to any port that’s a reasonable distance. Thanks in advance.

Cunversatzione Local Advice - August Trip

Pregonta North Sardinia Photographer / Vintage Car

I'm coming for my honeymoon in 10 days - I'm hoping to surprise my wife by setting up a photographer and access to a vintage car - even if I can't drive it - for the photos. Literally an hour or two. I think this would be timeless and likely our favorite photos from the entire wedding overall. Doesn't have to be ultra luxury ferrari-esque, a classic fiat or alfa romeo style would be amazing.

Tough task - I can't seem to find anything online. Any insight here for me? Thanks.

Pregonta Are restaurant reservations recommended for less touristy areas?

My partner and I will be traveling to Sardinia mid-July and staying in the South West coast as well as the eastern, more inland region. We are primarily going for hiking and nature.

As we are staying away from the most touristy areas and will probably stick to more local places, are reservations a concern even during the peak tourist season?

Also open to any recommendations in those areas if anyone has them.

Thanks!

Pregonta Advice on looking for a base in Sardinia coming with cats in a camper van

Hi, I’d really appreciate some advice on how to approach my first month or three in Sardinia—as someone who’s never been there before, is traveling with cats, in a van, with all my worldly possessions, and during the summer high season.

My job in Prague ends in two months; I want to load the cats into a camper van and head to Sardinia to slowly figure out if we can find a place there for maybe a year.

If I didn’t have cats, it’d be no problem—I’d just go through the campsites and slowly get my bearings, but as it is, I need some kind of base, an apartment, a community, something—where the price is reasonable and I can pay monthly.

Am I right in thinking I should probably head to Cagliari, where there are the most expats?

Do you have any ideas on where to look for short-term rentals that aren’t exactly touristy apartments? I know during the peak summer season, I probably can’t avoid higher prices too much. Have you had good experiences with Idealista?

Thank you very very much
