Pregonta Advice on looking for a base in Sardinia coming with cats in a camper van

Hi, I’d really appreciate some advice on how to approach my first month or three in Sardinia—as someone who’s never been there before, is traveling with cats, in a van, with all my worldly possessions, and during the summer high season.

My job in Prague ends in two months; I want to load the cats into a camper van and head to Sardinia to slowly figure out if we can find a place there for maybe a year.

If I didn’t have cats, it’d be no problem—I’d just go through the campsites and slowly get my bearings, but as it is, I need some kind of base, an apartment, a community, something—where the price is reasonable and I can pay monthly.

Am I right in thinking I should probably head to Cagliari, where there are the most expats?

Do you have any ideas on where to look for short-term rentals that aren’t exactly touristy apartments? I know during the peak summer season, I probably can’t avoid higher prices too much. Have you had good experiences with Idealista?

Thank you very very much

As someone who stayed at a few campsites in Sardinia, i saw many cats in campervans.

In one of the parks last year, there was a family of three with a huge Maine Coon. They had a portable playpen, and when they were around they put the cat there, it was so cute. You just have to be careful because there are always strays around the parks and you probably don't want them interacting with your cats.
