Season 3 I have some very unpopular opinions and it's ruining my enjoyment of the show so far Spoiler

First time watcher, currently on S3E10, just needed to vent a bit....

Honestly I wanted to watch it since forever and I started it now since it recently came to my country's Netflix. I have been obsessed and binged all those episodes in about 10 days but recently I've been losing momentum and not enjoying the show this much.

I LOVED early season 1 and the dynamics of the characters. Nathan the bully, Lucas the underdog, Dan hating that he even had to see his 'bastard' son, haley being Lucas' best friend, the tension between peyton and lucas, the basketball, everything. I looked forward to see how it would unfold and specifically how Nathan would evolve since i had heard so much about his redemption, and how his relationship with Lucas would evolve (this part i absolutely adored).

But Nathan's arc so far has seriously disappointed me. I actually disagree with the term "redemption" because he did not do anything to redeem himself except be kind to Haley. All his development came from Haley, everything he did was either for or because of her. And we never saw him actively regret his past actions or change his behavior. We just focused on his relationship with Haley (and Lucas, which i said I was fine with, but that on very few episodes here and there). But what about the people he bullied? The closer we got to it was the episode with his coworker at the pretzel shop that was honestly really realistic (how he didnt even remember the guy he beat up). But even that wasn't properly addressed. Everything also happened so quickly, he was awful for like 5 episodes and then bam, Haley. Which brings me to my next point:

Naley!!! God, how i hate them currently. I hate how quickly they developed as a couple, and THE FACT THAT THEY GOT MARRIED AT 16 HELLOOO?? And we're supposed to hate everyone who gets in their way as if they're the crazy ones lol. I actually can't deal with how frequently the words 'husband' and 'wife' are thrown by them or at them, it's multiple times an episode and it almost makes me turn it off.

I actually enjoyed their time apart in the second half of season 2 and the tiniest bit of development we saw for them individually rather than in regards to their relationship. I really wish they hadn't rushed them into the relationship and marriage, I wish we could've seen Haley grow into a more confident musician on her own, perhaps have an academic storyline of deciding to pursue music instead of any other good student cliché career, I would've LOVED if we could've seen her get past her righteous attitude and make mistakes and own up to them (she kinda did that but the righteousness is still there like cmonnn) BEFORE she got with Nathan. I actually enjoyed her leaving for tour, putting herself first, finding confidence in her music and performances, having second thoughts about marrying so early (DUH) and just maturing, but then she returned to Tree Hill and turned into Nathan's Wife again lol. She didnt even bring any development along, it was like it never happened.

And Nathan, I liked how he unraveled when Haley left but kinda managed to put himself back together (though not completely). I hate how the show has him just be an extension of Haley with a side of family drama and basketball like cmon! Where is the actual redemption, where are the consequences for his past actions, where is he even there to acknowledge them??

So yeah, after this vent you realize I'm starting to not enjoy the show much. I've also been heavily spoiled but this doesn't worry me as much as those storylines. I'm now at the part where Naley gets back together and everyone is loving it and rooting for them but i desperately wished they would break their marriage and try again later after they've both matured but guess not! I intend to watch the show till the end but I seriously don't know what I'll do when Lucas leaves and the show becomes Naley with a side of Brooke (at least i love her). I do not care about them nearly enough to see 2-3 seasons just about them lol......

Maybe there's just something I don't get, I don't know...

Season 1 First Watch Spoiler

I’ve seen a lot of clips over the years and i think i probably at one point tried to watch but i don’t remember a single thing other than the clips i’ve seen everywhere. So as i watch I’m just gonna comment below my thoughts on everything.

Firstly had no idea after all these years that Lucas and Nathan were supposed to be brothers and that was the basis of the show. I read the synopsis before starting it and was like “woah, i thought this was about a love triangle, not two brothers.”

Next the show was very obviously putting Lucas and Peyton together, but based on all the clips i’ve seen i had no idea that Peyton and Nathan had ever been a thing and that they were the OG couple.

I also am surprised that people were so surprised or outraged about Brooke going after Nathan when in episode one she states her interest in him.

Also had no idea that Nathan was such a jerk based off the fact the stuff i’ve seen made him seem like a golden retriever.

Still barely into season one but i do like Peyton and Lucas. Don’t really like Nathan too much but i’m sure they’ll change when he gets with Haley.

I like Haley as well as well as Brooke. The female characters so far are very likable though i’m sure i’ll feel different when they start introducing all the love triangles.

Discussion Brucas Spoiler

Idk if this has been discussed here before but If the writers hadn’t done Brucas 2.0, what storylines would you have loved to see for Lucas and even Brooke in those seasons.

I’ve seen alot of people say Brucas should’ve never happened after s1 so I wanted to know what kind of storylines you would have loved to see from the characters if it didn’t happen

Season 3 What scenes do you always skip ?

I'm watching the show for the first time and I'm on season 3 the Keith/Dan/Abby episodes and I always skip love scenes involving Mouth. I find he's a nice guy but I kinda feel they give him too much screen time. What do you think?

Season 1 Was Dan Scott actually right?! Spoiler

Okay, so Dan Scott bailed out Nathan from jail and while he was there he told Lucas about him wanting to be a part of his life.

They made it seem like he had just walked out on Lucas, but turns out he wanted to be a part of it but Karen didn't.

Karen confronted Dan about what he had told Lucas and went totally off on him for calling out her Bullshit. Which she kind of denies any accountability for her part and blames him for just wanting to hurt her, but were his feelings valid? He felt tired of being the bad guy in Lucas eyes. Karen wanted to protect her son from him, and obviously we can see how Dan has been to Nathan, so maybe her decision was somewhat valid. I'm not sure how to feel about this.

Then Keith found out that his whole opinion of his own brother was based on a lie. And I feel a bit bad, but I think he still thinks his brother's an asshole.

Season 8 Haley’s pregnancy “game”

Upvotes

I’m watching for the show for the first time. Haley is pretending to go into labor to “test” her friends, and I absolutely cannot stand it. This is absurd behavior. I didn’t like her at all before, but she won me over eventually. I’m back to strongly disliking her character. Tricking Quinn, Brooke, Julian, Nathan, and Clay for what turns into amusement makes me mad.

Season 9 Season 9 should have been straightaway after 6, those 7 and 8 were less interesting, even dan scott didn't have much presence or effect Spoiler

those quinn and katie etc stories were pretty much boring, I was only there for dan redemption, they didnt need to extend this much, could have had dan nathan saving story just after season 6

Season 3 Jimmy Edwards Spoiler

Is it weird that I’m kind of bothered by everyone’s compassion for Jimmy Edwards? I understand that he was bullied, and I understand that he was left out, but when Lucas and mouth made valid points that Jimmy also never reached out to them to hang out Jimmy just disregarded that point. Also, I just feel like everyone was feeling so compassionate, and no one was angry at him for the situation except for Lucas.

I’m from Florida, I’ve been in two school shootings now. One at my high school and the other one in college. Maybe I felt less compassion for those shooters because of the fact that so many people died in the shootings that I was present for. I just feel like they didn’t show an accurate portrayal on how non-accepting of Jimmy Edwards people would have been after something like that.

Discussion Why so many people hate Brooke?

I am scrolling through the sub right now and all i am seeing is the hate for Brooke? Like? Now is okay to go for someone’s boyfriend TWICE just because Peyton couldn’t communicate with Brooke TWICE about her feelings for Lucas? I mean, she had a boyfriend at the time, Brooke asked her if it was okay to have something with Lucas, she said YES IT IS OKAY.

“Payton did not have the time to process her feelings for Lucas” well okay then, why didn’t she go for him or stayed with him when they both cheadet on Brooke behid her back? Or why didn’t she go for him when Brooke and Lucas were obviously broken up? Peyton constantly reassured Brooke that there was nothing going on between them. AND ALSO!!! Blame the girls?? No we r blaming Lucas for knowing how they both felt. Like where is the LUCAS HATE? Messing up witj both girls when you know how they are feeling for you, constantly manipulating them and showing feelings for both of them because you are a dumb guy who cannot choose.

The thing that really annoyed me was that peyton had the chance to be with Lucas he said he liked her before he started dating Brooke and peyton was the one to say “I just wanna be friends” but then as soon as Brooke is dating Lucas then she decides she wants to be with him. And when her and Haley seen Brooke at the mall when she was sobbing peyton was laughing at her.

They BOTH were in the wrong in some situations but going after someone’s boyfriend TWICE is outrageous, sorry not sorry.

Discussion Would Lucas be one of your favorite characters if they didn’t have the love triangle again? Spoiler

I’m just curious where Lucas as a character falls for people outside of the LucasxPeytonxBrooke triangle. If Lucas never went for Brooke the 2nd time around, would people actually consider him to be one of the best characters? Or is there more to it?

Season 3 Luke and Nathan season 3 baskestball Spoiler

So in Season 3, when basketball season starts again, Lucas is out of shape, constantly out of breath, and lagging behind the rest of the team, he takes responsibility for it and tells Whitey not to blame everyone else for his condition. Of course, Whitey responds by pushing the entire team even harder in practice.

Now, I know Nathan was angry at Lucas at the time because of the whole Dan situation and because Lucas went to see Haley after Nathan specifically asked him not to. Personally, I always found that entire conflict ridiculous. It felt like the writers were trying to reset them back to Season 1 for drama's sake.

But even with all of that going on, I feel like Nathan should have noticed something was off. Lucas wasn't just rusty, he was struggling physically.

I always thought Nathan should have been the first person to ask: "Hey, man, about that HCM test... are you sure you don't have it? What's going on?"
It's strange to me that Nathan never once seemed to consider the possibility that Lucas had lied about the results. Instead, everyone just accepted that Lucas was out of shape and moved on. Looking back, it feels like a pretty obvious conclusion that nobody even thought to explore.

Season 1 Is anyone actually rooting for Peyton and Lucas? Spoiler

I’m on S1E15, and since the beginning, it’s obvious the show is clearly setting up Peyton and Lucas as the endgame. But Brooke and Lucas just have so much chemistry. They’re exciting and fun to watch together. Once Lucas started cheating with Peyton, I found myself skipping most of their scenes because they were so boring to me. It honestly made me wonder if anyone actually likes their.. thing lol.

Discussion Leyton

Say that the actors for both characters were able to find an agreement to stay on for an additional season seven, eight, and nine or forever the reason just were able to be in it no matter what the background drama was or negotiations or the known issues with Mark. Whatever that may be.

I was curious and I don’t know if this has been discussed before, if Peyton and Lucas had been in the last three seasons of the show instead of leaving at the end of season six what do you think in your mind their stories would go. And I don’t mean just in a general sense of what you would hope would happen. But in the sense of what we know was common when it comes to Peyton‘s character to be made to go through a lot of traumatic scenarios whether or not they were realistic at times or fair. Would they make them go through some marriage troubles again? Another pregnancy with the same old risk of the last one? Another stalker?

Discussion Mouth is so cringe

Every line mouth says is either a motivational speech or some nostalgic sentiment piece even in day to day conversations he turns it into a life lesson for no reason. I get he’s a “sports presenter” type but it’s so cringe and off putting. Anyone else find this just straight up annoying?

The chaos of the older Scott generation hits so much harder when you're an adult.

When I first watched OTH as a teenager, I was completely consumed by the teenage angst. It was all about Team Lucas vs. Team Nathan, Brucas vs. Leyton, and who was dating whom in Tree Hill!
But I’m doing a rewatch now as an adult, and let me tell you... the kids are boring.
The kids' drama feels like a middle school playground compared to the psychological warfare happening in the Scott family adulthood.
Anyone else experience this shift on their rewatch?

Edit:

Maybe I didn’t explain myself very well. I’m only on Season 1 of my rewatch, and what surprised me is how much of the Dan/Keith/Karen/Deb storyline I missed when I first watched as a teenager because I was so focused on Lucas, Nathan et all.

Back then I was invested in who was dating who. Watching as an adult, I’m finding the older Scott family dynamics a lot more compelling because I understand the adult conflicts and consequences better. It’s not that the kids’ storylines are bad—I just appreciate a different side of the show now.

Discussion Just introduced my sister to OTH and she clocked Lucas immediately lol Spoiler

By episode 3 she called out Lucas for not respecting boundaries and being inappropriate with Peyton. She said she saw a look in his eyes and he seems like the type to cheat and gaslight. This may be the first time I’ve seen someone make this prediction about Lucas early on without any future knowledge.

I’ve been watching with her and not giving anything away, but she’s the type to pause and do deep character analysis so it’s been fun to see her thoughts and opinions. She’s loving the show and characters a lot so far!

Season 3 Brooke and lucas relationship Spoiler

I don’t understand there relationship at all in season 3 from both the sides
• when Brooke b**bs where showing to whole school on time capsule episode she was trying to stop the video as well whitey but lucas was standing there watching the video instead of stopping it that’s not how boyfriend react honestly
•how Brooke always sleep with guys and blame on being drunk first with nathan than chris and by the she is sleeping with chris is much worse than lucas kissed peyton as peyton initiated the kiss and she was shot down
• brooke and lucas breakup felt like not lucas fault in 3 season it felt more of like Brooke was trying to protect her heart to not get hurt again

Season 1 I feel bad for Brooke Spoiler

Okay. So I'm up to episode 16 and I couldn't be more flabbergasted at how things turned out for Brooke.

One moment I'm really not into her character, thinking she's just a shallow girl, the next I'm seeing her true self and it's just heart-warming. Then it gets utterly fucked by her best friend and hard love boyfriend.

I can't believe how things have turned out for her and honestly can't stand how Lucas and Peyton did her so dirty.

This girl is trying to understand and know Lucas. She thinks of some creative things for dates, however, sometimes she seemed like a horndog. Nevertheless, she proves time again and again how she shows up to be the best she can be for their relationship.

THIS LADY EVEN SHOWS UP EVERYDAY AT THE HOSPITAL JUST TO BE BY HIS SIDE. Nahhh I'm not having this bungalow bum mines.

What do you think?
