What are the titles of any of her books? Has anyone read her books? I'm curious about them.

I posted this before a couple years ago, but the responses were so funny I wanted ask again!

After Sunday's episode was over...and it was a struggle to get through it...I said to myself, "Wait...did I just watch 2 hours of people tearing down tree branches and trying to start fires?" The answer was unfortunately yes.

This is clearly going to be yet another long, drawn-out season. The unfortunate format for this show recently has been to drag it out as long as possible, even when nothing of interest is filmed. Adding in ancient clips of animal killings that appeared to be from the 1980s was a nice touch I guess. I'm expecting we'll need to have at least one hour in a future episode of Matt and whoever else hiding out in a blind trying to shoot at animals. Maybe we can get 30 minutes of everyone wet and shivering at some point too, in keeping with tradition.

This "global" business would have made a lot more sense if over half the teams weren't from the U.S. They should have just let random teams compete against each other and come up with their own team names. We could have had Team Hunk & Chunk (Dan & Matt), Team Jackass (Jeff & Patrick), Team Warrior Princess (Ky & Alexa), etc, etc.

I’m 90% certain he is not American, why not just add him? Unless he stepped away?

I am really ticked off. You have to pay monthly to get discovery plus. Yet they refuse to air Gobal Showdown until it has completed the season in July.

Why was Dan bad-mouthing his partner? He didn't do any better. Why was Ky's team girl/girl when all the other teams were boy/girl? She should've had Waz as a partner. They would be fairly unbeatable. What ever happened to Bulent? They showed a cameo of him. Why isn't he representing a country?

The facebook page is full of nasty negative comments and the admins condone and support body shaming of contestants as long as its funny in their eyes.

Im glad that every reddit post I read tends to stay positive (or critical of contestants in a legitimate way and not about their body).

But on another note, im heartbroken. I cant watch the new Global showdown in Australia. I dont want to buy a VPN but i might just have to!

First of all. I would never ever do this. I’m watching an episode and the first day, the woman…the ants, it’s hot, I do not eat fish even though that’s the only thing out here, I’m tired, the bugs, I’m tired…on the first freaking day. I know, who am the one to criticize but Jesus, I’ve never seen someone give out on the first day.

In this episode (I haven’t finished the season yet so pls no spoilers!) - I got stopped up 🙊to address the glaring issue of constipation due to a meat-only diet. I’m looking at all the greenery around them that could offer some much-needed FIBER that meat doesn’t have. Why are they not munching on the grass, leaves, digging up roots/tubers… figuring out what the monkeys eat (fruit perhaps)?

Our digestive systems require a decent amount of fiber to move things along. I personally would be inclined to eat soaked tree bark if no plants were around, just to get this essential nutrient. Maybe the contestants are indeed eating some plants, as the editors do tend to focus on the trophy wins (animals) which are undoubtedly more exciting than leaf and berry gathering, but they should show it if they are!

I actually liked Makani simply because she was wise about plant consumption and did yoga, which definitely helps with constipation (and as Bulent noted, mental health). If I were chosen to be on a challenge, I’d hyper-study every plant and animal there in that season. This particular area does look pretty barren, though for sure there are patches of green and no doubt some tubers somewhere. 🌿

Episode Name: The Olympics of Survival

Africa, AGAIN.

Zululand.

(Edit: Short column tonight as I try and find the flow to this series but just this once.)

–“I’m representing my country!”

–How much patriotic nonsense will this series have? Answer: Lots.

–“If you’re an American, you know what it is to love your country.”

–Jeff looks ridiculous in that cowboy hat.

–How much more Matt do we need? My god, he’s on literally every N&A show. I like Matt as a competitor, but enough is enough.

–Matt continues to come up short on these N&A challenge shows. Will he finally break through?

–“It’s time for new legends.” I agree with that.

–Good to see Kerra back. I like her. I think. It’s been a while since we’ve seen her.

–Ky is back. Back to underachieving that is.

–Dan again?! My god, why? WHY?!

–Rene is tough.

–Three distinct zones. They begin in zone one.

–Matt and Jeff renew their rivalry. We can expect friction.

–I can already read the comments. Half of the people are going to hate on Jeff and the otherhalf on Matt.

–Could they not replace one U.S. team with a team from like England or Scotland or somewhere else? Seems like it would have been easy enough to find two more non-U.S. contestants. After all, it’s called GLOBAL Showdown.

–The prize is $200K. Not bad.

–Point based challenges. Nice. That’s a good idea. I suggested that during LOS. Maybe they read my column (no, they don’t).

–The first challenge is to get a survival item out of a tree.

–Matt is very good at these challenges. He and Gabby are the first to finish this stage of the competition.

–I like Marina. She’s got some fire in her.

–Team Brazil finishes their supply bundle challenge and then screams like maniacs. I love those guys already.

–Texas and Mexico move on to phase 2.

–Dan and Rachel are struggling. Good! I do not want Dan to win again.

–All the teams have advanced and it’s time for boma building.

–A Bulent sighting!

–Suck it, Kate.

– “If we don’t have a boma, we will not survive a night in Africa,” Ky says.

–That’s a little dramatic, Ky.

–Brazil is moving along quickly. They’re on to phase 3.

–Pablo cut himself pretty badly but it’s nothing a couple of stitches won’t fix.

–Time for some friction fire.

–As Ky says, this is her specialty. It’s time for her to step up!

–Friction fires are almost always more difficult than it seems like they should be. None of the teams got a fire going before it got dark.

–Nighttime.

–Oh no, look! The hyenas are about to get Ky and Alexa. Nature you scary!

–Day 2.

–Will Jeff’s desire for perfection and his patience for making fire pay off? Let’s find out.

–But first we need to see if Matt/Gabby and Dan/Rachel can get fire going. It’s a race!

–Do you guys remember that one episode a long time ago with the guy that got a friction fire going in like thirty seconds? Who was that again? It was impressive.

–Not in a million years could I make a friction fire.

– “To get an ember is not a fire. To get a fire is a fire.” -Matt

– “Tacos are not tacos unless you have lime and cilantro.” -Me

–Matt and Gabby make fire and get their water boiling. Success!

–Why doesn’t Kerra help Jeff with the bow the way Gabby helped Matt? Same with Rene and Marina.

–Dan and Rachel almost had fire. They think they’ve figured it out.

–Jeff and Kerra seem like they’re really struggling.

–Matt takes a victory lap.

–Same with Frank and Teal.

–Ky and Alexa have fire. Good job by them!

–Haven’t checked in on Pablo and Fernanda in a long while. They’re struggling.

–The show really is drawing out this fire challenge. Got to get those advertisement dollars.

–Frank and Teal are next to finish their fire challenge. Great job.

–Time’s up. End of challenge.

–USA East and Australia are in the lead.

– “Matt is so smug right now, you would think he had found the cure to cancer.” -Jeff.

–Four teams are now in danger of elimination. It’s getting intense!

–A new challenge includes building a bridge. Hell yes! That’s what I’m talking about. Real skills and base building.

–Frank and Teal both choose a bow. Why didn’t one of them choose another tool? Do they really need two bows?

–It’s time for some teams to hunt and for some to sit in their boma in shame.

–And that ends the episode.

I’m really excited for this show. I think this was so much better than what we just got from season 19 of N&A and Apocalypse. I enjoy the skill challenges. The episode still had some pacing issues, such as spending the majority of the second hour watching the teams fail at making fire, but overall it was a successful premiere. What did everyone else think?

The most balanced and impressive team, in my opinion, is the Matt/Gabrielle team. On paper, it looks solid.

These folks run a jungle eco resort in Belize - and own the land my episode was filmed on.

They are so gracious and recently flew me back down to film some stuff for their YouTube channel.

Hey, I used to watch 'Naked and Afraid' for free on DMAX, but it seems they've restricted access. Do you know any other websites or platforms where I can watch it for free?

Starting it, I thought it would be easy because Amazon gives abundant water and food. But as it goes, I am impressed with so many tap outs. Mosquitos are really the top1 enemy of the human being.

I remember from his first N&A he was from Idaho and Mormon. NOT exactly Texan.. it’s like they wanted to put the most obnoxious asshole loud mouth on team Texas to portray a negative characterization of Texans. Jeff would get his ass kicked acting like that down here. Also did anyone notice that all of the other teams seemed to have days if not a week or so together during that hour long preview of the season? The only team that wasn’t shown were the ‘Texans’. Feels to me like they needed another team for the show, maybe a country fell out? And they hurried and just made the ‘Team Texas’ at the last minute and prob paid Jeff to come out of retirement and pretend to be from Texas. FFS Matt and Gabby? I mean go ahead and pretend like it’s a competition, but they gotta be the hands down favorites. Plus there are many actually GOOD representatives from TEXAS that have been on the show. Guess they needed a villain/bad guy and decided to make him from TX. Awesome.

Man, do NOT watch the Global Showdown sneak peek tonight. 45 min in and im utterly disgusted by all the spoilers. Wish I had never turned it on. How it all goes down is just as important as who wins. Please take note producers!

After viewing the one hour Global Challenge I predict the following:

First elimination: Dan and Rachel, before they leave the savannah

Second elimination: Jeff and Kerra, also while still on the savannah.

Third and fourth eliminations: Team Australia and USA South (Teal and Frank), order of elimination uncertain but while in the marshes.

Team Brazil and Team Mexico will fight it out on the beaches with Matt and Gabby. I am inclined to think Matt and Gabby will win, but am not at all confident in that prediction.

Been watching NaA very recently and I've binged tones of the XL seasons, but LOS... that's another beast.

First of all fuck Waz, second of all fuck Dan. Waz essentially let everyone do the work and heavy lifting, literally. He bullied Gary into not giving Jeff food and im glad Gary did and personally I'm a fan of Jeff he has flaws but he wears it on his chest and is self aware of the fact he is in a game and is playing as such.

Isolating him, maybe deservedly, for nearly 38 out of the 41 days because he said he'd rather trade then give things out for free in a game called last ONE standing is ridiculous and Waz is the centre of that with lap dog dan following suit.

I also get really pissed off with Matt, I think he's a terrific hunter and very skilled but in terms of usefulness he would let everyone do the work, much like Waz, and reap the benefits while not allowing anyone to share them with Jeff. Especially towards the end when he spent the last week and a half OoA with his leg while mocking Jeff and Gary while saying "it's not personal" when it very much was. You told Jeff you wouldn't respect him if he won, what person would say that if not for personal reasons.

Overall I think the concept is fantastic but the way everyone ganged up on Jeff was simply unfair and the winner was undeserving.

(Side note get my boy EJ on a LoS standing at all costs)

I know I'm super late here, I'm watching the first season of LOS, and man do I have some words. Listen, I definitely don't like Jeff, he's often obnoxious, and from what I understand, not a great guy outside the show, but...

...All the rest of these guys are just mean.

They say it's not personal, and then say and do the most personal shit imaginable to the guy. Just so needlessly rude, and Steven is a really crummy "friend". Apologizes and everything, and then five minutes later is rooting against him and back to saying mean shit.

These dudes show off such awful behavior, but Dan and Matt are the worst of them. They'll go out of their way just to single Jeff out and screw him, berate him, insult him, it's wild. Matt, on his way out, saying that he won't respect Jeff if he wins was the most classless thing to say, as well as them telling him he's not wanted, and the others saying that Matt had skills when Jeff didn't, after Matt had just sat in a bush for nine hours and accomplished nothing was the icing on the cake.

God, never have I wanted absolutely NOBODY to win a competition more than this season of this show. They're all miserable people.

I just started watching Season 5 of XL and it’s been a full episode (1) and 45 mins into e2 of nearly straight advertising and “sneak peek” spoilers… enough already! Does it get better or should I just quit here? It’s so asinine to advertise for a show that you’re literally already watching… just get on with it! And they repeat the same info as if everyone coming back from a commercial break actually dissolved their brain matter somehow and need to rebuild it with a “refresher” segment. Like how dumb do they think people are?

I have learned by now that many of the given coordinates are just fiction.

But who made up these coordinates here: 18°68'85"N 98°63'58"E

That's 18 degree, 68 minutes, 85 seconds north!? But minutes and seconds numbers never may exceed 60!
