1200 euros in Beograd

I have an apartment in Beograd and have been offered a job paying 1200 euros. I do not pay any utilities. Is this enough to have a good comfortable life in Beograd?

ED: I will not have to pay for apartment nor utilities.

I will paste my comment I posted a few days ago on a post from a guy who was coming to Belgrade with 1200e salary.

People here are so delusional lol. With that salary you'll live just fine. It's almost double our median salary which is around 80k. Most people work for around 100k, if they have a decent job. That 3000 euros and other bullshit you hear here, maybe 1% of Belgrade and Serbia have that salary, yet we are all still alive lol. With 140k you will live a decent life, nothing glamorous, but a nice life. You can travel 1-2 times a year for example etc. For a moderate lifestyle it will be just fine. You will save a little, nothing too much, you can save way more if you find a roommate, many people in Belgrade do that. Don't listen to these delulu people. There are few realistic people on this post who told you the truth. Welcome!

It applies to you. Welcome!

Serbia ≠ Belgrade.

This is the main misconception. 1,200 is just fine salary in Belgrade.

This is not great, nor it is enough for comfortable life in Belgrade, as OP inquires. Say, you cannot ride a taxi every day, go to the restaurant on a weekly basis. You have to be savy. Of course, this is far from poor salary, also.

If he doesn't pay rent this salary is great

I don't see it as great.

For me personely, I considered to have a great salary once I stopped tracking shopping groceries, using taxi, going to restaurants etc. Hence, I dont considered 1200 great salary.

Again, its good salary, just to be clear.

Realistically his salary is 2000€ as he doesn’t pay for the flat, electric bill, internet and else. He gets 1200€ for food and general life. That’s 40€ a day for food basically

How much are you making? I still track all of those even on $10k+

3

u/Boza2605 3d ago

Me too, I mean my opinion is that you should track your spendings no matter how much you make. Not obsessively but you should. Also for me ordering a taxi every day, ordering wolt/glovo every day etc is a waste of money, no matter how much you make. Basically, that's a luxury. I don't like wasting money, I prefer to spend it on something nice, and the right habits help with that. You can spend on some luxuries occasionally, but not every day and if you don't pay attention, with such behavior even a 20k salary is not enough.

u/Boza2605 3d ago

1

u/Boza2605 1d ago

0

u/Deep-Contract-1146 1d ago

Nekad prošetam posle posla, nekad idem kolima.

3

u/nepalm5873 3d ago

Yeah i don’t really take taxis and very rarely eat at restaurants. I mainly eat eggs, chicken breast and some veggies. I don’t go out unless coffee with friends a couple times a week.

1

u/Deep-Contract-1146 3d ago

Then you are good to go 🙂

1

u/besieged_mind 3d ago

It is not great but it's just fine.

Yes, you can go to the restaurant every week, let's say you spend 5,000 per lunch/dinner (which is quite enough for a nice meal), that's 20,000 per week.

1

u/molindevent 10h ago

Since when does a comfortable life mean taxis and restaurants every single day?

0

u/DemandNew8116 2d ago

I don't think median in Belgrade is 80k, and certainly not if you take into account that "second gig" everybody has and does not report

11

u/K0rl1c 3d ago

If you pay neither utilities, nor rent, then yes.

If you have to pay rent, then you should be fine if it doesn't go over 400€.

In any other scenario, you will be in trouble.

2

u/SerbianHustle 3d ago

100% true. This comment matches the numbers exactly.

5

u/Raznjicijevic 3d ago

Perfectly fine. Majority of people in Belgrade earn between 800 and 1200 euros. If you have an apartment (i assume tih means you don't pay rent) and you don't pay utilities that is a major factor and because of that I would say it is absolutely enough for a good life. Even if you had to pay rent and utilities, you could still live a decent life, travel for a vacation once a year and you wouldn't have to think about putting food on the table. Maybe even save some money each month.

2

u/Plastic_Line_3023 3d ago

I have a salary of 1300 euros in Belgrade and I just can't manage to save for a vacation or for anything else after rent and all the expenses.

2

u/Kurtz91 3d ago

With rent it's a different thing, you need at least 1800-2000 to be comfortable. Especially if you want to live at normal location.

4

u/Disastrous_Arm_7370 3d ago

If you are single you should be just fine.

1

u/Sport_Middle 3d ago

U will be more then fine :)

1

u/cybernoid1808 3d ago

If you do not pay for a rent and utilities, and this is netto amount, I think you can have an ok life (but all will be spent, no savings and will be very hard to get a mortgage).

1

u/CaptainnHindsight 3d ago

Depends on your life style exclusively and what you consider by "a good comfortable life in Belgrade".

A 1,200 EUR per month with paid rent is not much to talk about in 2026 . If you plan on having a newer car, paying the gas and service costs for it, going out, taking vacations, eating at restaurants every other day and buying decent clothes, than NO. It's far from being comfortable money.

1

u/Past_Specialist1927 3d ago

It's a good salary, especially if you live alone.

1

u/izadjivani 3d ago

yes it's good enough for a decent lifestyle, but does it really warrant moving countries and uprooting your life? I guess it depends on where you're from, but if you can have a comfortable life back home, this isn't like moving to a life of luxury

i was in a similar situation, i had almost no utilities or bills and my salary was 650 euros. i lived just fine, i could essentially even afford to splurge on some things and i always had money left at the end of the month. i did have a free meal and a lot of free food at my workplace, so that also helped cut my expenses.

edit: belgrade might be the most expensive city in serbia, but not all places here are expensive. everybody is shocked where i find cheap beer and coffee when i tell them my entire night out costs 1000 dinars (8-9 euros) at most.

What job?

1

u/Mission_Straight 3d ago

Yes it is. I live at my own apartment at the same wage, and I spend around 700 Euros per month, and I can go probably even lower.

For a good social and comfortable life - out of the question.
