Arrest warrants

Upvotes

Is it normal for lawyer to confirm a warrant by talking to an officer but i called the county jail to verify the warrant and arrange payment they can’t find any arrest warrants. When I called the law office back they insisted there’s-an active warrant and county jail typically keeps it hush until warrant is cleared. I have an international vacation coming up in a few weeks, biggest worry is getting arrested upon entry or exit. Called the county multiple times and spoke to different people each time, they said no warrant in the system. Never been arrested or charged for anything in my life so find the situation quite odd and unsure how to navigate it.

Mother gifted me money

Ok so I don’t know what to do here. Mom 74f came into a small amount of money 50 grand after selling her home years ago. It say in the bank for a while but she wanted it out last year and put in a safe. Said safe stayed In her bedroom which she lived with me, and she only had a key to it. Now mom was diagnosed with dementia last year but in the very early stages and very cognitive decided to give us money. My sibling received 10 grand, myself and children roughly $15 grand. It’s obviously spent since this was back in december. Sister put it towards a roof and myself towards home projects etc. mom recently moved in with brother and now is saying she never gave us any money! Idk if shes scared my brother will get upset she didnt give him anything or what but im nervous about this. I did have her sign papers stating she gifted us money just incase. She mentioned taking us both to court over this even thou she gave it to us willingly!! Im not getting a reason as to why this is happening now but i am nervous. Im also in PA

Is my landlord scamming me?

I need a sanity check on my rental situation in Tustin, California.
I rent a detached loft building. To be clear: the loft is its own structure, my bathroom is in a completely separate building (the garage), and we share laundry machines with the main house. I signed an initial lease, but that expired, and I’m now on a month-to-month, unsigned tenancy.
The landlord has been forcing us to split the total property electric bill 4-ways (down from 5-ways when a roommate moved out). The problem? The electric bill has a massive "floor" of over $433 even in perfect mild weather. Across 7 mild-weather months (March-May, Nov-Dec), the bill averages $516/month.
I have a single fridge, laptop, and phone charger. I'm 99% sure the landlord’s dad (who lives in a third, separate detached house on the lot) is wired into our meter. My rent/utilities are being jacked up to cover his 24/7 baseline energy usage.
I’ve calculated that I’ve been overcharged by over $1,000 for electricity in the last 14 months because the baseline is so artificially high.
I've looked into California Civil Code Section 1940.9 (Master Meter disclosures), and it looks like they never disclosed that the meter covered the father's house, in writing before I moved in.
Is this a scam? Should I report this to the city, or just demand a flat utility cap? I’m tired of paying for the main house and the dad’s electricity.

Dad's lawyer messed me up

Dad knew he couldn't leave my brother a large sum of money so he made me trustee with instruction to distribute 'minimum of $1000 per month'. That's messed up my life bc bro wants much more and smoking crack and I'm seriously sleeping with a loaded gun by my bed so he doesn't kill me to get it all. Did dad's lawyer fuk up or am I just doomed? [Edit- VA]

Motion Dismissed as it fails to state a claim

My ex filed a motion through FOC for change in child support. My understanding is he lost his job and requested his child support obligation be brought to zero. Im at a good point in my life financially (and we generally get along) and I agreed to his motion.

Today I received a letter stating "The motion is dismissed as it fails to state a claim upon which relief can be granted". I dont quite understand the legal jargon or what this all means. I have no intention of helping him with this matter but Im just curious what this letter means. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

We live in Michigan.

TN- Help with small claims suit concerning consumer protection and recovering attorney fees.

Location: Tennessee
My dad purchased a golf cart with accessories back in August 2025. The golf cart was delivered with incorrectly installed (and not the agreed upon) accessories that caused damage to the battery. When the seller was notified, he did not take responsibility and offered no remedy. Later, the title was not delivered when it was supposed to be and the seller refused to give the title, saying that my dad had stolen one of the accessories. Upon learning that he could not get the title from the seller, we discovered the VIN number in the cart did not match the bill of sale. The seller did not cooperate at any point with getting the issues resolved, and because my dad could not actually prove he owned the cart due to VIN discrepancy, he felt he had to sue.

The suit was filed with the above-named causes of action in the amount of $25,000 for damages included the price of the cart, repairs that had to be made due to the faulty installation of lights, and attorneys fees and court costs. Under the Tennessee Consumer Protection Act, he should be able to recover these costs.

Now we are two days away from trial and our attorney says that we cannot recover attorney’s fees because there was not an actual breach of contract. They want my dad to settle for the cost of the cart, and return the cart to the seller for him to resell! This has us very concerned.

Why would the attorney file suing for attorney’s fees if we would not actually be able to recover them?

Does a bill of sale, that includes itemized “tags and title” fees not constitute a contract?

If anyone can help me interpret what may be happening here, I would so appreciate it. My dad is disabled and this has really taken a toll on his mental health, and I’d like to help him as much as possible to be prepared for what may happen in court.

Thank you for reading.

Crooked contractors

I am in North Dakota and I recently had some remodeling work done in my house. During the installation, some of the fixtures were damaged. The project has taken way longer than it should have and it just want it to be over with, so I asked the contractor for a $500 credit for the damages. They are refusing and threatening to start collections and lien proceedings if I do not pay the final invoice (which was $5k higher than quoted). My position is that the project is not complete until these damages are either repaired or credited. Am I screwed?

Trademarking "Nibs Nootropics" when Hershey already has "Nibs" registered... Is there a conflict?

I am starting a functional supplement brand and want to file a word mark for "Nibs Nootropics" under Class 005 (dietary supplements).

Hershey company already has "Nibs" registered under Class 030 (candy/confectionery). Different class, different product category, different consumer.

My questions:

  1. Does Hershey's Class 030 registration block me from filing "Nibs Nootropics" under Class 005?
  2. Does adding "Nootropics" to the mark create enough distinction from just "Nibs" alone?
  3. Is there any risk of Hershey challenging my mark on likelihood of confusion grounds even across different classes?
  4. Would filing as "Nibs Nootropics" be safer than just "Nibs" alone for this reason?

I am planning to file myself through USPTO as a word mark only to keep costs down. Just want to understand the risk before I spend $250.

Any insight appreciated.

California consumer/lawyer question regarding Jaguar I-PACE recall and failed arbitration

I'm trying to determine whether I should continue speaking only with a lemon law firm or whether there are other attorneys/practice areas I should be contacting.
Facts:
Purchased a used 2019 Jaguar I-PACE from a California dealer in June 2022, but I reside in Las Vegas, Nevada.

At the time of purchase, the vehicle was still covered under Jaguar's 5-year bumper-to-bumper warranty and the 8-year traction battery warranty.

The traction battery warranty remained in effect throughout the events described below.

Purchased a used 2019 Jaguar I-PACE from a California dealer in June 2022.

Approximately one week after purchase, the auxiliary battery failed and left me stranded overnight.

I had recently undergone chemotherapy and informed Jaguar of my disability-related transportation needs.

The auxiliary battery later failed again.

The vehicle later became subject to Jaguar's H514/H536 battery fire recalls involving reports that these vehicles could spontaneously catch fire, even while parked.

Jaguar imposed charging and parking restrictions due to fire risk.

I informed Jaguar that I could not reasonably comply with those restrictions because of my housing situation and disability-related transportation needs.

Jaguar was informed multiple times that I was disabled and dependent on reliable transportation.

Jaguar ultimately advised there was no repair available and no replacement vehicle would be provided.

Jaguar offered only a fair-market-value buyback.

Jaguar directed me to BBB Auto Line before I pursued arbitration.

BBB Auto Line declined to hear the dispute.

The traction battery later failed, resulting in a transmission shutdown, and I ultimately surrendered the vehicle due to safety concerns.

I filed AAA consumer arbitration after the transmission shutdown.

Jaguar failed to participate in the AAA arbitration process.

I am already speaking with a California lemon law firm.
My question is: based on these facts, are there any legal theories or practice areas beyond traditional lemon law that I should be exploring or attorneys I should be contacting?

Lemon law? Magnuson moss? Ive already contacted NHTSA, CA AG, NV AG, and DMV Nevada. No one is helping.

How can something come up on my FBI record if it was dismissed?

Indiana. Pulled over for speeding, arrested for driving while suspended with priors. Proved the “priors” were identity theft and the driving while suspended with priors was dismissed but it still shows up on FBI background check. How? Can that be removed to stop showing up?

Credit dispute with Ambulance Company - Powder Springs, GA

Hi All - I need advice. Long story.

Backstory:
Back in November of 2022 my son was diagnosed with Rhino virus. We took him to the closest hospital which was Wells Star about 7 miles from my house. After 4 hours of treatment they exhausted their efforts and stated he needs to go to Children’s Hospital Atlanta. This was classified as a medical necessity transport. The Ambulance company transported him there on 22nd of November and everything went well. When my son was discharged from the hospital 4 days later, they provided him some pills and stuff to take for a week. The pills ended up making my son really sick and we went back to Well Star on November 29th. They were unable to treat his symptoms and they called the same ambulance company to take him to Kennestone Hospital in Marietta. This trip was also deemed medical necessity transport. Everything went well and my son is doing great.

Issue:
My insurance paid for Nov 22nd transport with no issue. However, the ambulance transport on Nov 29th was denied. Both trips were deemed medical necessity by the hospital and ambulance company. 2023 comes around and the ambulance company is threatening me about going to collections. I called my insurance company and they said if the Ambulance company provides proper documentation and reasoning they will pay. I called the ambulance company again and they said they were going to appeal and keep trying. By end of Summer 2023 I have a collection from them for $2300. I had no idea as it’s only being reported on Experian. I only frequently check transunion and equitax. 2025 comes around and I dispute the collection. Called my insurance company and the ambulance to resolve the issue. At this point since it’s a dispute, they removed it from my credit. Fast forward present time, I am applying for a Heloc, I check all 3 bureaus and it’s now being reported on all 3 reports -25pts. , I got denied the Heloc, along with minor other factors, but my wife and I are extremely upset. We called my insurance company to research the issue and they said the ambulance company has been filing the claim to the wrong account/claims department which is why they are asking for more information. I don’t understand how could they screw up when they sent the first claim correctly which was paid. Since the claim is over 3.5 years old my insurance will no longer pay even though the ambulance company finally has the right information.

Everyone I have spoken to, said I should sue the Ambulance Company for negligence, emotional distress, false credit reporting, FRCA etc… there are so many things that have happened to me due to the collection, loss of high credit limits, denied top rates, denied Heloc etc..

Do you think I can get a FRCA or credit lawyer to take my case? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Rear-ended, herniated discs, $100k offer on $300k policy — would you take it?

Rear-ended in Brooklyn NY in 2025. MRI-confirmed herniated discs in neck and lower back. About a year of treatment. (Physio , some accupuncture ) Attorney says $100k settlement offer is strong. Policy limit is $300k. Attorney fee is 33%. I’m trying to understand whether this is generally considered a good offer or whether I’m anchoring too much on the gross settlement amount versus the net recovery. Curious what factors people would consider here.

Youtuber makes a living scaming people into signing contracts without knowing?

My question is: How is tricking people into signing contracts allowed in the USA?

If I disguise myself as a delivery person and go to someone's house and ask them to sign my phone, most people will sign without question, without reading the contract, they just scrible away at my phone screen.

This is nice and well if I don't have bad intentions and I am a real delivery guy. But....
But if I have a pdf file on my phone with a full contract that obliges them to fulfill it and pay me damages in case they don't. This is allowed in the US? this is legal and valid?

This is the reason I'm asking:

This youtuber called Reckless Ben.
I've seen about 10 of his videos, they are quite long and involve always some sort of "investigation" style jourlalist investigation type of video involving crime, curroption of some sort.

Eventually in every video he gets someone else to go up to the "villain" of the week and pretend to be a delivery guy and then asks for a signature and without knowing the person is signing a contract with Ben.

This contract always includes a "Damages Clause" in case the person that signs does not fullfill the contract.
The Damages are always around 12.000$ and he always gets the money because he serves the person the papers, and it goes to Small Court. But Ben makes sure they fail to show up in court, by tricking them into thinking the papers are fake or its just a joke.

He seems to be making a living from ticking people into signing contracts, then serves them papers, they fail to showup in court for some stupid made up contract, and he automatically pockets the damages money plus the court fees.

It really undermines the whole point of his videos, because, in the videos he portrays himself as a underdog and doing the right thing, searching for truth or trying to make right by someone else.
But now it seems he is does not care about making right by people or isnt really interested in the investigation, it seems he just uses some "charitable cause" as pretense to trick others into signing a contract and getting thousands of dollars in damages.

There's a video where he even brags about it, that the Law allows him to do this, and trick people into signing the contract with him, and uses this against them....

It seems he just found a loophole in the US Law that allows him to keep tricking people into forged contracts and getting damages and makes a living of of it, and records it all for even more profit.

Traffic Citation Oklahoma

I received a citation for “driving across dividing space or barrier.”

I have read on Reddit where people show up to court for speeding tickets and the issuing officer is not present and the charges get thrown out.

I don’t want to assume that will happen and then I turn something small to something bigger.

Is there truth to this? I would rather go to the courthouse than pay $180.

Thank you

(TEXAS) Parody law clarification

Hi, I'm just wondering if I can legally sell some shirt designs I've made. I have the images with SAMPLE marks though it seems I can't upload them here so I'll describe them and also post them to my profile outside of this sub.

One is Neil Diamonds face faded into a diamond ring.

The other is my popular "coldstone Steve Austin" it's a picture of Stone Cold Steve Austin in the ring and I've photoshopped some coldstone ice cream cones into his hands.

I ask because I have googled a bit and the part that confused me was it saying for it to be protected under parody law it can't just be someone famous saying something funny and I believe this is a direct play on their names and not defamatory or anything.

If I need to reach out to their estates I can but I don't have a business or anything I'm just a dad with some silly ideas and would like the option to sell some ideas on shirts if the opportunity presents itself. Any help is appreciated.

Police Misconduct

I was having a minor mental health issue. I told a group of police officers, that I wanted to kill myself 3 or 4 times. The police smirked and were almost laughing at me, and they ignored me. I walked away, and I was about 10 yards away , one of those police officers called my name and approached me and placed me under arrest for disorderly conduct. I filed a complaint with internal affairs and one officer was found to be in "daraliction of duty ". I need a lawyer that will help me. Preferably a lawyer that deals with people with developmental issues. In the Tampa Florida area

Should I go to court for a speeding ticket or just pay it online? (VA)

Got clocked going 76 in a 60. Completely my fault, just didn't realize how fast I was going. This is my first time ever even being pulled over, so I'm not sure how to handle it. It's about 2 hours away and a roughly $200 ticket. I've got +5 on my safe driving points balance so I'm wondering if I can just take the points on my license? If I go to court and the judge isn't feeling lenient, am I then also stuck paying court fees too?

What would've happened if Milli Vanilli refused to return their Grammy Awards after being pressured to do so by the Recording Academy?

This post concerns the Grammy Awards, which take place in multiple US locations. It would not be appropriate to name one specific state.

For those of you who don't know about Milli Vanilli, here's a nice introductory article. To learn more about the Grammy Awards, click here.

I wanna quote from the first article I cited:

The R&B duo, led by Fabrice Morvan and Rob Pilatus, rose to stardom after releasing their debut album Girl You Know It's True in March 1989. However, later that year, they were caught lip-syncing at a live concert, and in November 1990, their record producer, Frank Farian, revealed that Morvan and Pilatus weren't the ones singing on their album. As a result, the two were forced to return their Best New Artist Grammy Awards, making them the first artists to ever have to do so.

Hypothetically, let's say Milli Vanilli said "fuck you" to the Recording Academy and downright refused to return their Grammy Awards. What would've happened?

Theoretical situation

Consider someone mixed bread with rat poison to deal with a rat infestation. They do not need it anymore so they throw it in the trash outside on their curb. A man happens to come by and eat the rat poison laced bread and later dies. Can the person be charged with manslaughter?

What if said person left the bread outside their home (not on their property) with a note that says poisoned bread for rats and it gets eaten?

Utah stolen gun.

Going through a divorce. My ex stole a bunch of guns and NFA items in Feb. She stole one gun from my FFL. I reported everything contacted the ATF. Sheriff said it was a civil case and wouldn’t press charges.

That didn’t sound right so I contacted the attorney general to see if they can look into it.

Well last week the ATF contacted me for a trace for 4 firearms. One of them being the pistol she stole the others where hers. She didn’t the 4473.

What are the odds she does time and gets a record. I replied to the ATF informing them the one pistol was stolen by her. Police case number, ATF number etc.

Well last

[CO, USA] As part of a performance art piece, can you give people cat food?

I understand that you can't serve people cat food - even for free, but you can give people cat food. I'm not trying to trick people or be duplicitous in any way and I'm not charging people anything. I'm unclear where the line is.

Can I put some cat food on a little round metal button and stick a Popsicle stick in it and give it away on the street for free if I say something like "Can I interest you in this cat food? It's food for cats."
