Work cutting my hours

A applied for a full time summer position as a house painter through a program called college works. Application specifically said FULL TIME. Now I’m being told I’ll be part time and filling in only when someone takes the day off cutting my hours to essentially nothing. I have already been through training and worked for them albeit it wasn’t long (1-1.5hours on job site training).I left my last job for this one after being hired and now I’m not sure what to do I need more hours to pay my bills is there any action I can take??? Thanks

not a lawyer but unless you had a written contract clearly saying full time guaranteed hours, they can usually cut shifts and just call it part time. focus your energy on finding another job, it sucks but hours mean nothing unless they’re in writing and even then they play games. super hard to get stable work right now

NAL. Layoffs and hour reductions are just a crappy part of employee life in most cases (if you are in the USA). Only top level employees, and union members (fewer each day) tend to have a contract promising anything.
