Redesigns “Don’t Tread on us” state flag redesigns

In my recent frustration with right-wing authoritarianism, I’ve been redesigning state flags mashed up with the Gadsden flag as a form of protest.

I chose the obverse of the Wisconsin flag because I’m obsessed with the beaver. And the Minnesota flag doesn’t have an animal, but we love our loons.

Up next is Utah, which might contain some very angry bees. 🐝

(MODS THIS IS NOT FLUFF)

Thanks everyone for taking the time to comment. I see a lot of opinions here, and I want to be clear: I’m open to constructive criticism, but I’d really appreciate it if feedback is explained and respectful.

Saying “this is awful” or “failure” doesn’t help me improve — I’m trying to learn and get better. If you have specific suggestions about symbols, colors, layouts, or anything that could make a design stronger, I’m listening.

I’m still learning and improving, and your thoughtful advice is what really helps me grow. Insults and vague negativity don’t, so I hope we can focus on meaningful discussion instead.

Redesigns Supremely over-complicated flag for the United Kingdom

Symbolism:

Hello! This comment explains the symbolism contained in the flag. It completely rejects the ‘rules’ of flag design, though I did follow tincture guidelines. I am also the one who made the American flag in the Venetian style a few months ago. This design faired better in my opinion, obviously knowing more about British symbolism.

Each corner is occupied by the patron saints of the constituent countries of Britain. (L-R, Up-Down) Saint George for England, Saint Andrew for Scotland, Saint Patrick for Northern Ireland and Saint David for Wales, all with their respective crosses/saltires.

The left, right and lower portions have 2 figures for the foundations of England, Scotland and Wales. The left is of King Kenneth, King of Dal Riata and conqueror of the Picts, and King Donald II, the first man known as ‘King of Alba’. The lower is of King Alfred the Great, King of Wessex who proclaimed himself as King of the Anglo-Saxons, and King Aethalstan, the first King over a full Kingdom of England. The right is of King Cunedda, founder of the Kingdom of Gwynedd, and King Hywel Dda of Deheubarth who would conquer most of all Wales under his reign. The flags shown on top are the crosses and saltires of the 4 nations within the United Kingdom, and the two designs in the middle are the original 1606 Union Jack and the modified 1801 version with Ireland. On the bottom is the royal monogram of Charles III.

The corners within the border contain 2 unique coat of arms’ from the region as well, (L-R, Up-Down) being the arms of Edward III, Henry IV/Elizabeth, the impaled French arms of Mary Queen of Scots, the Stuart Arms, the arms of the Kingdom of Ireland, Ulster, the flag of wales in a shield and the arms of the Kingdom of Deheubarth. Each corner also has the respective crowns of each region, Saint Edward’s Crown of England, the Crown of Scotland, the Comerfield Crown of Ireland and a representation of Llywelyn's Coronet of Wales.

The centre has the four coats of arms of the constituents, (including the retired NI one) alongside the edges of the Union Jack surrounding a field of golden Scottish Thistles, English Roses, Welsh Leeks and Irish Shamrocks. In the very middle is an expanded coat of arms of the United Kingdom to include 4 supporters (Welsh dragon and Irish elk).

Please forgive the hidden watermark, after the last post I made about the US flag in the style of Venice I saw multiple reposts of people claiming it was their own.

Redesigns Spanish Speaking people's flag. How would you do it?

Post image
1.2k Upvotes

I've seen recently many proposals for the flag of humanity and I was wondering how I would design a flag for the spanish speaking people. Keep in mind that I'm not a pro vexillologist and I just have fun designing my flags.

What I have found to be and interesting thing is to embrace the ñ in the design. I've found that most spanish speaking countries use the red, yellow and blue colors. Blue might be the most diverse one and I choose a tone that wasn't as celeste as Guatemala or Argentina and different from the rest of darker blues.

Following those ideas I followed the flow and came up with three designs. Proportions are the so boring 2:3. The last one probably doesn't follow any vexillology rules and you might want to tackle me to the ground. Sorry if that's the case.

I personally would not use the first horizontally stripped flag as it's obviously too close to the spanish flag. Even tho that could make it recognizible I was thinking of pursuing a new imagery.

What would you do instead? How bad was my attempt?

There were topics about alternative Chinese flags, and I had this pretty simple idea for a new Chinese flag when there is a new regime, the regime is liberal democratic, and forms close ties with the EU.
