Study Quick rant!

As mentioned here, I recently have decided to transition my cat to a Vegan diet. And I am committed to doing it right, incremental with vet check-ins to make sure its a healthy diet for my little dude. Pulling out if it is not of course.

I previously went to my vet and discussed it with them, and they gave me the generic obligate carnivore speech but then said if I can find a vegan food they can help me assess it to see if it is healthy or not.

I send them the dry food I am considering.

They respond without any assessment simply by sending me an article referencing cats as obligate carnivores. The article is 14 years old.

Ugh.

Hello vegan cat lovers 🌱🐱! My wife is in the process of designing an ingredients preview app for a plant-based subscription cat food vendor for school. They're conducting research to better understand the unique needs and preferences of cat owners who choose vegan or plant-based diets for their feline companions. Your insights are incredibly valuable!

If you're a proud vegan cat caretaker or have experience with plant-based diets for cats (cat ownership NOT required), please consider taking a moment to complete this brief screener survey. Your input will help them develop resources that support the well-being of plant-based kitties. Thank you for being a part of this important research journey! Your commitment to compassionate pet care is truly inspiring. 🙏💚

My wife said to note that your participation is entirely voluntary and feel free to skip any questions you are uncomfortable answering. All responses will be kept confidential.

Please share this survey with fellow vegan cat enthusiasts who may be interested. Thank you so much in advance! :3

Study MSc Research Survey

Hi! I’m undertaking an MSc dissertation looking into perception of certain dog breeds as well as awareness of particular health issues in domestic dogs. You need to be over 18 and living in the U.K. to participate. You don’t need to own a dog though! The study has been ethically approved by the University of Winchester and all responses will be anonymous. It would really help me if anyone could take 5-10 mins to fill it out as I’m struggling to get responses. Thank you! Please find the link here:

Study Reminder: With the recent news from IPCC, what you feed your companion animals matters

This study is from 2017, although seems relevant to bring up again with recent news. This is also linked in the FAQ for anyone who wishes to read further studies.

InB4 we stumble off topic, yes a multifaceted approach is required, but pet food is often overlooked in terms of environmental impact.

Environmental impacts of food consumption by dogs and cats (2017)

"through their diet, [cats and dogs] constitute about 25–30% of the environmental impacts from animal production in terms of the use of land, water, fossil fuel, phosphate, and biocides."

"In the US, dogs and cats consume about 19% ± 2% of the amount of dietary energy that humans do (203 ± 15 PJ yr-1 vs. 1051 ± 9 PJ yr-1) and 33% ± 9% of the animal-derived energy (67 ± 17 PJ yr-1 vs. 206 ± 2 PJ yr-1). They produce about 30% ± 13%, by mass, as much feces as Americans (5.1 ± Tg yr-1 vs. 17.2 Tg yr-1), and through their diet, constitute about 25–30% of the environmental impacts from animal production in terms of the use of land, water, fossil fuel, phosphate, and biocides."
