[North Dakota] Question [North Dakota] My boss retaliated aganist me for telling upper management that a co worker made me feel threatened and afraid.

First let me say what i think i did wrong here

  1. I quit, i had to quit because this is my 2nd time being retaliated aganist for calling upper management (the managers above mine which is basically HR) Yesterday we were supposed to have a "meeting" about this hostile co worker. however the moment me and the two store level managers sat down in a private room my main manager IMMEDIATELY started getting agressive with me. raising his voice. his hands were shaking out of rage. he kept repeating "so give me an example of why u felt your life was threatened" i never said my life was threatened. i told the upper management that i felt like my co worker could strike me because of his unpredictable anger outbursts.

my manager never looked at the cameras. yet he kept threatening me to look at them to "prove that im lying" he refuses to give me the benefit of the doubt at all. i dont understand how me saying a co worker is making me feel threatened means i am just out to get the guy. it was a very unfair meeting and i was too scared to think about specific examples. also it was two managers that WERENT EVEN AT THE STORE WHEN THIS HAPPENED. so why am i alone with two people who literally have ZERO idea what happened at work that day.

Also this manager doesnt do "write ups" he told me this. he likes to solve everything "with conversations" which basically means he can cherry pick shit to get u in trouble but since he doesnt do write ups there isnt any proof of anything.

  1. i was late sometimes. this is unexcusabale. but, this job NEVER gave me a schedule. even when HR asked for one. i was NEVER given a schedule. i was made to work 9-5 the first month there. and than randomly i was working 3-11 next month. of course im gonna show up late to work im exhausted and i dont even have a SET schedule.

do i have a case here? or did i screw myself by quitting and not collectinf enough evidence?

TLDR: My co worker is hostile and makes the work enviorment toxic. my boss is saying im lying and that im just making things up. he says "you are just saying whatever sticks"

[Texas] Question [Texas] Approved for unemployment, but I am worried the employer might contest it.

This past Monday, the TWC called me explaining the reasons the employer gave me for firing me. I was absolutely dumbfounded by everything she stated. They accused me of being rude to management, extremely hostile, being very unprofessional, and interfering with people's personal lives, and attendance. And they had apparently coached me "several" times regarding it. I was livid when I was told that, because it was simply not true. I put in my unemployment application I believe I was terminated due to retaliation. I had filed a complaint against an employee who was very toxic and hostile. I spoke to a lead and he said he would speak to management, and he informed that employee is an asshole to all the male employees and is buddy buddy with all the women. I reported him because he was making my job extremely hard to care for the animals. He spoke to management on a Friday. The very next week they fired me. On Monday I worked, the manager had already started giving me weird looks and talking to me differently, but I thought nothing of it. I missed on Tuesday due to a family emergency, and asked the manager that night if I could come in on that Thursday to make up the hours. She said yes, well I went in on Thursday, and before I was about to leave for the end of my shift, that's when they called me and let me go. They told me it was for attendance which I understood because I was under a 90-day probation, they didn't mention a single thing about anything else they stated to unemployment. Now I did admit to unemployment that the absences portion was true, and I had understood letting me go under that premise, I developed bronchitis at work and had to take a week off, which I brought a doctor's note for. And I had a family emergency on that Tuesday which caused me to miss. But all the other reasons they gave was simply not true, and I asked if they provided any documentation of these "coaching's" they claimed they did and documentation of all this behavior they claimed I was doing. They didn't provide anything. Well, the very next day I was approved for unemployment. The reason for approval was "Our investigation found your employer fired you because of absences from work that were due to reasons beyond your control. This is not considered misconduct connected with the work." So, nothing was stated regarding all the other reasons they gave. I am worried that if they are willing to makeup all those lies about me, how far are they willing to go? Will they try and makeup more stuff and appeal it? I don't have the money to go to court if they contest it, or the money to even pay it back if it somehow gets overturned. Thank you.

[Colorado] Question [Colorado] Help me comprehend what it means to appeal to Insustrial Claims Appeals Office

My employer has appealed my claim to the ICAO office. I got a letter in the mail stating this the other day with no real information. In the letter, it says enclosed is my copy of the hearing record but nothing was enclosed. It may have gone to my attorney, but that’s not what the letter says.

Not sure what to do here and I only have until the 8th to figure this out and submit any brief. Just trying to get a grasp on what this entails.

[Massachusetts] Question [Massachusetts] Can I claim benefits while taking evening graduate classes?

Hey, I have been on unemployment for a few months. I am starting grad school next week. I also was chosen to complete the RESEA program. While on the phone with RESEA, I explained I’m starting full-time school and that I won’t be eligible for benefits anymore. They explained that I would still be able to collect unemployment while in school. I am a bit confused about this because I was under the impression that full-time school disqualifies you unless you complete TOP?

[Illinois] Question Appointment or walk in [illinois]

I’m in Illinois and have been having issues for 2 days submitting a claim online.

Should I just do a walk in or make an appointment? IDES website says they do walk ins, but I read elsewhere that it’s appointment only.

[Massachusetts] Question [Massachusetts] Please talk to me about cobra experience

So was layed off May 1. Insurance via work ended May 31. My husband was just dx with a blood condition requiring weekly treatment. He’s not working.

I have lupus, and he also has multiple health issues. Together our monthly meds will cost over 6,000 with every available discount out there! Not to mention his medical treatment a god forbid I go into a bad flare(I’m also deaf but just barely not enough to be legally deaf) and require hearing aids.
I did get our scripts filled for 3 months last week before the loss of coverage.

There’s no way I can afford cobra, I immediately applied for Masshealth via the connector… have spoken to reps multiple times but still waiting a decision.

Talk to me about how you managed insurance while on unemployment!

[California] Question Declining a Job Offer [California]

Hello!

My question is about declining a job offer. Before the interview, I didn't know how many hours I'd be working - it was part time so I thought somewhere in the 20 hour range. At the interview they told me that I'd be working at 18/hr with a max of 5 hours a week. (And they said that even that is conditional on my work ability). This job isn't nearly enough to live on. Is this a good reason to decline a job offer, or do I have to take it?

Thanks.

[Arizona] Question [Arizona]Appeal Hearing granted-2 years later

I live in AZ and I filed an appeal for my disqualification for unemployment due to discharge, not for the reason for the discharge but the way my former employer went about the termination. Anyway, 2 years after the fact I get an email that my appeal is valid and I get a hearing 2 weeks from today. I don’t have any documentation or anything, my supervisor did everything over Teams so no access, so I don’t know if it’s worth it. i would like the back pay (I’ve had other employment for 18 months) but not sure if I should appear after all this time. Any thoughts?

[Washington] Question [Washington] What agency is responsible for reporting hours worked?

I was recently laid off due to upper management changes in my job. Basically, my bosses left my job, and took my work with them. I went to apply for benefits today, and I get to the part of the application where they calculate your base year work hours, and it says their records show I have worked 0 hours since Jan 2025, which is incorrect. Does anyone here know what they base their records off of? Is it Social Security? I ask because the bookkeeper at this job was....criminally incompetent to say the least, and did not report any of my work hours since I started working there in 2024 to the Social Security Administration.

[Missouri] Question [Missouri] Unemployment Claim "exhausted" even though I should have 1 week left?

I received correspondence today saying that my unemployment claim is exhausted. However, I know for a fact that I should have 1 final week before it is out. I even have a printed Unemployment Verification document from May 14th showing that I had 4 weeks worth of benefits remaining. Has anyone else had this happen? Were you able to get it corrected?

I may be starting a job soon but one week of benefits is NOT going to get me by until my first paycheck. Any advice?

[Illinois] Question [ILLINOIS] Appeal process

Hi,

I'd love some feedback and guidance on what to do. I live in Illinois and quit a job after 5 months of them barely treating a mouse problem at a small local bakery. It was to the point that the bags and boxes we use for desserts were covered in mouse poo and just so many other problems. I was concerned I would get sick or someone else would and I couldn't live with it, so I quit. I applied for unemployment but it was rejected and I'd like some feedback on how to successfully appeal or if I'm out of luck?

The first time I applied i stated the issue of mice and provided them photos and info on the first food safety report. This time around I have the report that was published one month after I left that says "they believe the situation is under control now." But it wasn't for nearly the entire time I was here, it was only addressed successfully after I quit.

Aside from this, there was a lot of other problems that I didn't publish to unemployment as I didn't know if less was more. For example, I started at the end of September I have in writing from the owner where she admitted in January that herself and multiple of us didn't have food handlers cards. I personally didn't get mine until February as it was never enforced.

Either way, is there anything here that could be fruitful or is this a lost cause? If its fruitful, what wording should I use, is there certain things that need to be said a certain way?

I'm more than willing to write about the concerns of Hantavirus and other mouse related diseases if there is any benefit to that.

[All States] Question [Maryland] Ghosted after round 2 great interview

In early April, applied for a role at a major major employer that I was eminently qualified for, but with zero expectation of hearing back—since that’s been the way it goes for the past year plus since getting laid off from my federal job.

Imagone my joy when they called in May requesting a preliminary interview, which I passed, and was handed over to the actual hiring manager.

The hiring manager and I had a good conversation. She said I had a “very impressive” resume and that they’d done a ”lot of vetting” of candidates prior to even scheduling the screening interviews, and she was excited to move me forward.

We seemed simpatico on all points. I want to work in person and she said it had been hard for them to find candidates who were enthusiastic to do so. (I also have excellent professional and personal references, one of whom is a respected emeritus member of this institution, which I told her I could send along as needed.)

At the end she asked if I would come in for a panel interview with executive leadership ether the following week (which would have been last week) or the week after (which would be this week) based on the leadership panel’s schedules. I enthusiastically agreed.

After the interview I followed up with a thank you email re-iterating how much I respected the institution and looked forward to presenting my credentials to the larger group. I sent this (both on the “to” line) to the hiring manager as well as the initial screener/recruiter from their HR department, whom I’d spoken to initially.

I figured even if they couldn’t align schedules I would get a ping back but I didn’t. Ok no worries.

A week went by—so this is the Wednesdayafter Memorial Day. I wrote again saying, truthfully, that I was in round two interviews for another position. (The other position is with a firm I REALLY REALLY don’t want to work for, but I’m not in a position to refuse to move forward on anything at this point). I said I would much prefer to move forward with the institution I was writing to, but was concerned because I hadn’t heard anything.

Again radio silence. Not so much as an acknowledgement. I have scoured my I box hoping I missed something but no.

Today, Monday—we are now 10 days past my second interview—I wrote again, because I am going out of town at the end of the week AND selling my house at auction on the 17th (I didn’t give these details).

I said I hoped I wasn’t bothering them but I was scheduling my next few weeks of summer travel and interviews with the other firm and, because this was my preferred position, I wanted to work around their schedule.

It’s only been a work day since then but again no acknowledgement.

Look, I’m beyond blaming myself for these things. Because would it be too much for the fricking HR SCREENER PERSON WHOSE JOB IT IS TO MANAGE APPLICANTS to just say “hey you’re not in the running” (cos that’s her job) or “hang tight if you can”???

This is an employer of tens and tens of thousands of people in Maryland alone.

I guess I’m just bitching but also—should I write this off now and just be happy if it comes back or what? And why would people whose job is literally recruitment for this large institution act this way?

Or am I cursed?

[New Jersey] Question [New Jersey] How to continue filing once temp work has concluded

I have been collecting for a couple weeks but I just got hired to do some temp work 40 hours a week for a couple weeks. I know I will not be able to claim while working, but I still want to make sure I can keep going after the job ends. How am I supposed to report my income? Should I keep filing every week and report the income, or should I stop filing until the job ends? If they see I am working full time hours will they revoke my benefits? How will they know it’s only a temporary position? Just a little confused on how to proceed

[New Jersey] Question [New Jersey] Reapplying for unemployment question

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, I haven't filed for unemployment in 10+ years before this, and never handled multiple. Was laid off in 7/25, collected til december when it was done. I have yet to find a job in my field cause of the way things are, and my claim expiration is June 27th 2026. If I refiled after, would I qualify for unemployment again? I'm mainly unsure if I can still use my previous employer twice, I worked there 8 years, and still made the income requirement in the last 18 months (over 40k). I've also made enough in contract but I don't think independent counts. I've tried to get on the phone with the unemployment branch but I always get the high call volume where they hang up on you. Any info is greatly appreciated.

General UI Question [VIRGINIA] Deputy decision email received but no docs uploaded and claim status is open.

I don't want to clog the phone lines. How long does it take for them to update my claim after they send the deputy decision email? The claim status is still open, and my pending issues were removed. Does this mean I'm approved, or should I wait?

[Colorado] Question [Colorado][Texas] Unemployment Comp and Jobs

My home of record from when I enlisted (2022) is in Texas so that’s why I add it but I live in Colorado.
So do I apply for unemployment based on Texas or here and also besides ZipRecruiter or Indeed where should I look for a job? I’m looking for anything really (laborer or front desk it really doesn’t matter).

All I care about is to get into something that won’t take long to start with, make some money to keep the bills in check and possibly some extra to pay off debt/have savings for when I move after enlisting into the USCG/USN.

[Texas] Question [Texas] Filed for Unemployment . Does getting Severances biweekly negate me from getting unemployment?

So I got laid off on April 24th due to AI. I've been receiving severance (I think?) bi weekly like they told me I would. I filed for unemployment on May 2nd because I was trying to figure out my severances situation. Problem is HR was not in the day I was let go so we did a Teams call for my termination and they said they would email me the paperwork to forward back to them after signed.
I never got the paperwork and have emailed them 3 times now to get said paperwork. No reponse.
However, I did get 2 payments of my normal payrate biweekly (exactly like I would if I were still work there) and they did say I would get a 4 week severances.
The first time I requested payment from the Texas WorkForce Commission, I filled out the request with an employee on the phone who on their end filled out that I had received severance my first week of unemployment (she told me to put "no" down for additional payment when I would submit the request on my end since she already wrote it down). I still have yet to recieve anything from this round of payment and that was 2 weeks ago.
I'm currently submitting my next 2 weeks right now and I have a few questions to ask about this round and overall payment

  1. The filing is asking if i recieved additional payment due to a release of claim. Since I did not sign anything, is that considered a release of claim?
  2. Since my severances is broken into biweekly, will I be able to get unemployment for the weeks I did not recieve parts of my severances?
  3. Since I did not sign anything (however, I do have proof that they said they will not fight unemployment) will this impact me getting unemployment? I am only asking this question since I haven't really recieved anything yet

Any help will be nice. I'm really trying to properly see how much I will have in my account as i'm trying to budget accordingly until I do find another job. So if anyone has any guidelines or advice, they would be much appreciated.

[Washington] Question [Washington] Can I not include one of multiple employers in my UI application because I think they would contest it?

Worked part time job while waiting for full time job/employer2/E2. Got fired from part time job/employer1/E1 for misconduct. I want to not have them/E1 contacted, because I think this may affect my claim at a second employer and I don’t want any further contact with E1 if I can help it.

When applying, it gives me an option to say “I didn’t work for this employer.” Should I say this so the state UI commission doesn’t reach out to that employer? I know legally I am not eligible for UI for the time I worked for E1. Is there another option where I say “don’t contact/attempt collection on UI from this employer?” I know I put in the reason “ misconduct “ when applying. If I put that, does the unemployment commission know not to reach out to them?

TIA.

[Mississippi] Question [Mississippi] UI can refused completed quarter wages ?

I filed my unemployment claim in Mississippi in mid-May 2026. I received an initial monetary determination showing $0 WBA due to insufficient wages.

According to MDES’s own website, the base period is the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters prior to the claim date which is in middle of Q2 in mid May of 2026.

My latest job’s Q1 2026 (January–March 2026) was fully completed on March 31, 2026. I had strong wages from my most recent employer in that quarter that should satisfy the wage requirements.

However, the initial monetary determination only used wages from January 1 – December 31, 2025 and showed $0 WBA. They completely excluded my completed Q1 2026 wages from my most recent employer. They are currently processing my USPS federal wages (from 2025), which I understand takes extra time despite it was excluded on the determination as well.

I filed a detailed appeal with paystubs, IRS transcript, and quoted their own base period rule. I only got this as a respnse: “The base period includes the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters prior to the beginning date of the claim. Mississippi does not use an alternate base period to calculate benefits” without explaining why they excluded a completed quarter, even though they asked for 2026 wage information from my previous employers in 2025.

I’m aware Q2 2026 cannot be used because it is the current quarter. What I don’t understand is why wages from a completed prior quarter (Q1 2026) are being excluded.

TL;DR:
MDES is excluding my completed Q1 2026 wages from my most recent employer, even though their published policy says the base period includes the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters before the claim date. They are processing 2025 wages from other jobs but ignoring 2026 wages from my last job. Has anyone in Mississippi seen this before? Is this normal, or should I push harder at a hearing?

Any insight or similar experiences would be appreciated. Thanks!

EDITED : Thanks for the explanation - I see what you're saying about "first four of the last five."

Using that reading, the five-quarter block is Q1 2025 through Q1 2026, and they take the first four chronologically (all of 2025), dropping Q1 2026. That matches what MDES told me.

However, what's still confusing me is this: MDES specifically asked me for 2026 wage information from my previous employers of 2025 federal + other job and the portal even shows "Wage increase requested" after I submitted 2026 wages.
But they are completely excluding 2026 wages from my most
RECENT employer even though that quarter (Q1 2026) was fully completed before I filed on May 21, 2026.

The rule says "the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters immediately preceding the beginning date of the claim."
If they're going to request 2026 wages from older jobs, it seems inconsistent to automatically exclude them from the most recent job.

If someone can explain how the rule is applied starting from the claim filing date, I WOULD 100% understand.

You guys did help me see what they were doing though, but it's still confusing and not making sense

[New York] Question [New York] got a judgment warning after picking up a gig…

Hi everyone, to make a long story short I have been on UI since October of 2025. It’s expiring and I was told to go ahead and keep certifying every week about a month ago when I called thinking my weeks ran out.

I am a performer and just got married so I moved back home—without any jobs—and booked a 6 week job right after moving back that I’m working right now; and ***out of habit*** I have been claiming benefits every week and today I got a judgment warning when I went to certify. Quickly reminding me that I completely failed to notify DOL about my change in work status (I have been claiming 0 days since I’ve left my other jobs in NY and have gotten about 3 paychecks from this one now). I’m not too sure how to go about this situation and all posts I’m finding about judgment warnings from NYDOL are about 5 years old. I wanted to see if there was anyone who had and updated insight on this situation and any advice on how to go about it since it was a genuine mistake. I just don’t want to get penalized especially over my mistake :(

Any **helpful** insight is appreciated. Thank you!

[Tennessee] Question [tennessee] question about wage protests and 2026 earnings

So as I understand it, Tennessee uses the most recent 5 quarters to verify your monetary eligibility. I worked for 7 or 8 months at an office job starting in September 2025. I worked there until May 2026. My monetary eligibility letter showed only the four quarters for 2025 and of course the 3rd quarter did not meet the threshold of eligibility.

I did an appeal on my monetary eligibility. They asked for only my 2025 W2. I provided it and ten days later they came back affirming the previous result.

What should I do? Do my 2026 earnings not matter?

[New Jersey] Question [New Jersey] Back to back claims? "Base year period"?

I was laid off in November of 2025, according to this base period chart,

if you filed your claim in October 1, 2025 – December 31, 2025 then your benefits are based off of July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025.

So, I'm currently in that situation. Now, when my claim ends and I collect the remaining balance, I got a different job in December of 2025 and held that job until April of 2026.

Now this same chart reads, if you file your claim in July 1, 2026 – September 30, 2026 then it goes off of April 1, 2025 – March 31, 2026. With that being said, would I be eligible to collect again and file another claim? I know they typically don't do extensions but, this would be separation from a seperate employer during a seperate time period?

[Ohio] Advice or Tips [Ohio] Appealing a denial with no evidence

Update: Just be patient and wait for the actual determination. I was approved, but received a lump sum severance that is applied as a deductible that I’m waiting out for another week before I’ll have approved claims. For anyone else, I was told Ohio largely considers things like this a skills gap and the things that are considered “just cause” are usually true misconduct.

I was terminated for performance issues, specifically for missed deadlines. My unemployment claim was denied and I want to appeal, but I don’t have *any* evidence to provide (never had a copy of my satisfactory performance review in January, no other tangible things to provide anyway). I was regularly working 45+ hours each week and my supervisor was very aware of my workload that was consistently inflated by higher priority (his determination) ad hoc needs. Am I just screwed?
