Podcasts/Audiobooks Something new

I’ve been obsessed with the XFM shows for years, and I know a lot of people here probably relate. At this point I genuinely know almost every conversation word for word because I’ve listened to them so many times. Same with Cum Town back in the day — that style of casual, insanely funny conversation just hits different.

So now I’m trying to find other podcasts that scratch that same itch. Would love to hear some personal favourites you guys keep going back to or genuinely enjoy listening to.

Podcasts/Audiobooks The Ricky Gervais Show is now available on Netflix in the U.S. and Canada. Watch it if you want, you know I'm not bothered, you can think about it come back. Have a look around, think it over. I'm not fussed

Podcasts/Audiobooks What are some times when Karl was genuinely making a good point, and both Steve and Ricky just mocked him as if he said the dumbest thing in the history of humanity?

Even when I first listened to the RGS, I felt like they were being sometimes calling Karl's statements stupid just because it was him making them - but admittedly most of them seemed dumb to me. Later I realized Karl was just showing a fuckton of signs of autism, and you sort of have to search for the meaning behind his words. Then it becomes apparent how often he makes a good point, just weirdly worded. Then there are the cases, where he's just straight up being reasonable, however you put it. And gets essentially (playfully) bullied regardless.

My nomination is: They were asking him what he'd do with an identical copy of himself. Personality, memories, and all. He went "How do I know which one I am? How do I know I'm not the copy?" "Stupidest statement of the year.", Ricky said.

Podcasts/Audiobooks I watched Rick's new stand up special and made a few notes

First 5 mins, How great Gervais is, isn't he GREAT?

Free speech strawmen, and then irks about people's social media bios FUCK ME THIS FRUIT IS TOO HIGH! And this is just the start!

Gammon is a racial slur horseshit, debunked to all fuck except for in the minds of chuntering gammon

Still drinking fucking Fosters, you're earning a few bob Rick! Drink a real beer!

Pop at Stewart Lee. Obviously a pop at Stewart Lee, stop punching walls Ricky. I'm not that keen on him, but he'd batter you!

"Props", hey Rick! 2009 called. Keep up old man!

Bit about 'dwarves' that's basically Brent without the pathos.

Someone criticised Rick, that's a bit. A whole bit.

"Everything annoys me at this age" - list of Rick's petty annoyances in which Rick imagines himself as some kind of vengeful God

If you annoy Rick, you get called a cunt. Honestly, that was the topper of a whole bit. Saves you time watching After Life I suppose.

Rick opines about no longer being sexy.... I mean Seona Dancing, MAYBE but, nahh. In his heydey he was called "roly-poly funnyman". Never was sexy, even joked about it when he was in that film about the dentist.

Harold Shipman. Hey! Ask me about how many open mic comedians I've seen that still lean on Shipman material!

This is a document of a man that's lost touch with his roots.

Edgy Rick vigilante.

Fairly funny joke about rape convictions, tbh. He's ticking off boxes to confound his critics again, wait for the next Netflix special when he'll talk about people's bad faith misunderstandings of his genius again!

Nicked Karl Pilko material, Jesus that was 20 years ago

Back to anecdotes of how Rick defeated his critics with facts and logic

Bit about The Exorcist, then Rick imagines himself in hell, DEAFEATING SATAN WITH FACTS AND LOGIC.

Rick is amazed by the freedom of performance.

Mental illness, through the lens of a 8 year old. "1000 new mentals". It wasn't like this in the old days!

Introspection bit about Rick's own mental illnesses. Writing it, he'd have been "Oh, this is the tender bit that'll confound the critics! I'm a genius!"

Final bit: Rick saying how great he was on the Golden Globes.

Keeps saying "This is all true, by the way" which just makes me think it isn't

Bit about the use of the word minge which seems true, but still presented like Rick had a sort of Tom Hanks Big situation where a young boy became a confident comedian

Elton John skit, Rick's angling for cancellation again. You're TECHNICALLY not worth cancelling, Rick! It'll never work!

A bit of fun with vintage homophobia. Cosplaying a 1970s comedian

Final bit, Golden Globes never stopped a joke (doubt) but HE once stopped one of his own jokes! BUT HE'S DOING IT TOINGHT! IT'S THE BIG FINALE! limp

Encore: some culture war stuff, middle class, privileged, buzzword, buzzword.

Rick's superpower would be to make people shit themselves. 8 year old boy. Tom Hanks Big. Srsly.

Final thoughts on how Rick is great, and a little boost for his vodka brand.

I watched it on 2x speed. Can we go back to a time when Gervais was funny and at least trying?

I guess dreams really do come true.

Just seen on Karl’s Wikipedia he’s set to star in an upcoming film. And LOOK who he’s starring alongside.

Proper weird, innit. It isn’t a typo either.

What's your favourite Karl moments when he's been right in his thinking and getting grief for this opinion.

It could be hindsight, or something you thought at the time

Podcasts/Audiobooks Who is the insufferable moron doing the Arnold/ Mr. T impersonation during ads.

It is fucking unbearable and literally infuriates me the second it starts happening. It’s not funny at all, it sounds like complete shit. What a fucking idiot, imagine recording that and saying “yeah that sounds good” and putting it up for ad space. For gods sake it makes the podcast literally impossible to listen to

Podcasts/Audiobooks Alrite. American RSK fan here. I say ‘toob.’ I call things butt-licky on a daily basis. I call the cops ‘pigs,’ and of course, the uh, the nine-eleven. It’s all true. It’s all very much the truth.

What about this for a feature? "That British Phrase Sounds Good."

These are some of my favorite words/phrases I've learned (or learnt) over the years of listening to RSK:

Adding "innit?" even when it's not grammatically correct. In America we'd use summat (also great) like, "know what I'm saying?" "know what I mean?" and now "Nomsane?"

"Can't be bothered, mate." Best when Karl says it.

Use of bloke, mate, chap, bird instead of guy, dude, chick etc.

Havin' it away, especially with a leaf.

When takin' the piss (another good one) out of a mate, say "ahhh, bless him," as the cherry on top at the end. Have I used that correctly?

Chuffed. Wish that'd catch on in America.

Fat, orange c*** for our president. Also wish it'd catch on here. Oooh, politcal.

Thanks for reading my butt-licky post. Cheers.

Podcasts/Audiobooks Does anybody else remember those horrible Channel 4 comedy adverts?

I’ve been listening back to the original run of RSK podcasts on the Guardian and between the bits there’s these awful adverts with really bad impressions. I’ve just heard what I think might be the worlds worst Jimmy Saville and I’m not sure if either their intentionally bad or if they are genuinely that terrible!

Anybody else remember these ?

Podcasts/Audiobooks Merchant loved the Lord of the Rings.

Hearing him deliberately say the characters names wrong after seeing all 3 films has always seemed silly.

He loved those little midget fellas.
