Bad trestment at migration department
Has anyone else had rude or disrespectful experiences at the Kaunas Migration Center on Šv. Gertrūdos g. 7?
I recently had multiple negative encounters with one employee there regarding residence declaration. The issue was not the documents themselves, but the way she spoke to me and other foreigners. Belittling tone, scolding, making people feel embarrassed, and giving new requirements every visit instead of explaining everything at once.
I’ve also seen her speak similarly to other foreign visitors.
I’m preparing a formal complaint and I want to know if others had similar experiences at this center, especially foreigners dealing with declarations or migration documents.
Please comment or message me if you experienced something similar.

All government services in LT are full of rude, entitled people. Sorry. This is "normal".

Its pretty normal to be fair, especially for people aged 35-40+. Lithuanians have mentioned that they get the same treatment, and it is quite accurate that the locals get the same treatment. It is just how people behave. Its not common to in Baltics in general (for context: I’m from Latvia and I’m studying in Kaunas) to have happy smiley faces when it comes to client service. Its just how we are. Some people tend to change their attitude when you talk to them in Lithuanian and keep the smile up even after they spoke in a rude/grumpy manner, but generally, that is just us being us and our mentality.

are you fr? Guys I love Lithuania as a Ukrainian refugee. I work here, I pay my taxes, I learn your language and try to assimilate. But let’s be honest here - you’re 2.9 million, you NEED workforce in your country. What’s the problem?

u/Svirplys 21d ago
The problem is that if we say no, it means no. You have no say in this. As simple as that. It is not up to you to preach.

No question it’s not up to migrants to decide on your migration policy. But I was kinda hoping for a constructive response cause I’m genuinely curious. If it benefits your economy 🤔

If people do not want foreigners to settle in our country, then that is the only thing that matters. No reports on benefits or proves based on economy gains are needed. No opinions by foreigners matter. It does not have to make sense to you. Locals decide how things should be going, because that's their country.

Makes sense but it’s sad to hear you’re so against us. My family and I have always acted and will continue to act in Lithuania’s best interests because, in the end, we share the same values. Best of luck my guy

But instead he chooses to help fix our country:)
1
u/Bosca96 22d ago
We already have enough “doctors” and “engineers” fixing it.
1
u/Hefty_Order4332 22d ago
Why compare this person to them? I wouldn't compare you to a peasant. Have some decency
1
u/Svirplys 22d ago
For a person to "fix" a foreign country, he has to lead by example and "fix" his own one first; afterall he would hardly leave it if it is a good one to live in.
1
u/Hefty_Order4332 21d ago
That way no one would fix anything at all 😂
1
u/Svirplys 21d ago
A. One ne has to prove that he can fix things B. He has to be invited and welcomed to be fixing anything 😉

Yeah that's the normal service in government institutions. They're rude as fuck everywhere, doesn't matter if you're a Lithuanian or a foreigner or a minority.

I'm Lithuanian, I've experienced grumpy treatment in Lithuania, Germany, Ireland and Netherlands, though did not whine about it. Deal with it and move one. No need to be a snowflake.
2
u/Limp-Exercise-343 20d ago
i dont believe they can stop. and its good. less snowflakes is always better, they get to move on to a country thats more snowflake oriented, we get to keep sanity. its a win-win

It's rare to encounter rudeness in Lithuanian government offices. But it happens.
Just find another employee. No need to repeatedly contact those who don't like you.
Of course you may file a complaint, but I doubt it would make any impact. Better just deal with the fact that government people are just people, not robots, some have own traumas and demons. It's not because of you, it's because of them probably being bullied in their childhood or something. Forgive and forget.

Customer service is non existent in Lithuania, cashiers barely even say hello, autistic nation lol
1
u/Limp-Exercise-343 20d ago
thank you. i wish it was 5 times more of that, instead of snowflake mentality
1
u/Careless-Car-5808 12d ago
It’s just bad customer service, still soviet union in that respect

u/Limp-Exercise-343 12d ago
glad to have people that have your kind of opinions outside.
you have no idea how nice is for us, without a princess complex , to be around the same people. and how much this type bothers. one other reason to be rude
1
u/Careless-Car-5808 12d ago
You mean you are all in soviet autists club and are scared to even talk to other people when they are on on your screen but in real life
1
u/Limp-Exercise-343 12d ago
your argument is autistic itself.
what does anything have to do with soviets? were you a soviet slave, or are you an aged russian of some sort? youre not, so what do you even know about it? and how does any of this relates?
and where youre pulling the fear from? nobody is afraid to speak to you. nobody mentioned anyone being afraid of talking here either.
boy did you got triggered or something? are you leaking?
1
u/Careless-Car-5808 10d ago
It has to do with soviets the fact that the culture is still the same when it comes to serving people. It looks like you are triggered yourself passionately defending something that is wrong wrong I suppose it’s people like you that provide this shit service hence you defend it. You lack basic understanding of customer service and human to human interaction

u/Limp-Exercise-343 10d ago edited 9d ago
and that experience comes from? pulled out of.. ?
anyways, glad to have you away, please stay delusional outside our country, thanks!
edit: i see you calling us racial slurs and got deleted the comment or moderator removed it. well, i would like to suggest that youre being racist yourself. you enter another country, and yet you push your beliefs and your country ruling. youre the one being nationalist here, and lets not confuse nationalism with german regime of ww2. it is good to keep your countries identity, and i too, like you, want my country to be its own distinguishable entity. were not russia nor UK, your expectations just dont match the countries mindset, and thats okay. you have so many options to travel elsewhere. just not back in time to soviet regime where i understand you came from
