As a PC gamer that complains about the prices. I don't know either đŸ€Ł

Piracy is why. Learn the way of the seas and complaining becomes a thing of the past.

The image is of a very popular site for doing so.

Until you get scurvy from eating nothing but frozen burritos and mountain dew... ahh life as a pirate *downloads sea shanty about a ship that was put to sea

Just gotta broaden your horizon. Pretty sure there's some Dew varieties that contain vitamin c. Will help you avoid the scurv.

There are infact two options of mountain dew with Vitamin C

U mean “wellerman”?

Or just use the infinite sales for cheap games. The advantage of the steam eco system is even big games go on sale rather quickly and you have refund window

But no matter what, you don't own those games and never will. The beauty of piracy is preservation and the fact you actually own the games, forever.

With that said, I still support small developers and buy games I like on steam. Even if I'll never play them on there.

u/Livember 9d ago

I don't care. I'll never play dishonoured on the Xbox 360 again, owning the disk doesn't do much for me. Games being pulled from steam is rare and steam keeps access to games removed as downloads for your library.

And frankly if steam goes offline, WW3s here and we have bigger issues

There have been hundreds of games delisted off steam. There are databases that keep track of that. All those games could be lost forever if it wasn't for piracy. Especially now when so many games don't have physical copies.

And i get it, you don't care. Doesn't mean nobody else should. Media preservation will remain relevant.

I feel like your moving the goal post massively there. You're now justifying stealing actively sold games (meme about prices) by saying "But yeah if a game gets delisted us stealing it will mean that it doesn't get lost to time". Which while true, any games that are popular enough they're getting pirated won't be delisted in most likelyhood.

TBF, "If buying isn't owning, then piracy isn't stealing." is a decent argument. And piracy to own a game you actually bought and paid for (and make no profit from) is not immoral.

That said, I pay for games that are Pay-what-you-want, like DDLC, and the only games I have that I didn't pay were either free (Dwarf Fortress before Steam) or abandonware.

So I can take a car from a car rental place and it's not stealing if I don't pay cos if I did pay I wouldn't own?

2

u/IAmNotTheProtagonist 8d ago

No. Because in one case, you leave the original untouched. See it that way: If you steal my car, I'm not upset that you have a car, I'm upset I don't have my own anymore.

Name one delisted game you play

1

u/DripTrip747-V2 8d ago

The crew, the original godfather game and the older 007 games.

1

u/xevlar 8d ago

Oh you like ubislop I get it now. I play indies so I'd feel like hot garbage if I pirated those games

1

u/DripTrip747-V2 8d ago

Feeling superior over you game choices is not the flex you think it is.

The same argument can be made with old Nintendo games etc that can no longer be purchased unless you pay ridiculous amounts to buy from someone's collection. You got something against those games as well?

Aaarrrggghhhh....this is the answer.

1

u/Onigokko0101 8d ago

This, honestly I use it as a ''demo" for games now, and if I really like a game I go buy it.

I live in Australia. I can literally get arrested for wearing a "offensive" t-shirt đŸ€Ł think I'll skip the risk of that thank very much 😂

That's what VPN's are for.

0

u/Low-Ad5815 10d ago

True, but here's the thing, we shouldn't have to use something like that.

3

u/DripTrip747-V2 10d ago

Well, you don't technically. I was just giving you an option for an added layer of protection since you seemed sorta scared of the idea. But you can download whatever you want and not get caught. VPN'S are really only needed if you're torrenting or if your region has certain sites blocked.

But in the end, it's all your decision. Pay for games or get them free.

1

u/Low-Ad5815 10d ago

You are right. I apologise, my meaning was, no country or gaming studio should be so tyrannical that VPNs need to exist or when we buy a game, we actually own it, for the price we pay, considering the lack of physical as well. I know variables, laws, licensing.... blah blah blah. But still.

The Fitgirl mascot is the spoon girl. Who is actually a French actress I think.

Fitgirl repacks cracked games and is a major safe piracy source.

Basically, whoever fitgirl is condenses the game to make the download smaller. And then the install takes a little longer. It is "repacked." They themselves are not a hacker. The person who actually makes the game playable.

BASICALLY PC gamers can easily pirate games.

It's from the movie, Amelie.

1

u/Glasseshalf 9d ago

As someone who instantly recognized Amelie, I finally understand the meme now haha.

2

u/oteku_ 10d ago

The actress is Audrey Tautou and this picture is taken from the movie « le fabuleux destin d’Amelie Poulain »

Switch gamers actually have a better pirating experience, since the games are even smaller. They can also overclock SAFELY

1

u/lininop 9d ago

Are you implying overclocking on pc isn't safe? Maybe if it were 1994.

1

u/Gullible-Ostrich2221 9d ago

It isn’t safe, since you don’t know what your PC can take. Switch users have preset values they select.

2

u/Linesey 9d ago

1: it’s piracy, that’s the joke.

although 2: Repacks have legitimate uses and are just, let’s say grey market, if you otherwise bought the game. Like being a smaller file size, or accessing games you bought, but because of fucked up first party launchers you can’t play.

and 3: half the reason PC gamers don’t bitch about price as much as others? steam sales.

Well, I got at least 10 games obtained legally that cost me under 1 cent an hour played.

  1. Evil Genius 1
  2. Master of Orion 2
  3. Dwarf Fortress (free AND my most played in this list)
  4. XCom 2 (heavily modded)
  5. Skyrim
  6. Beyond all Reason (free, but I am so bad at this game)
  7. Project Zomboid (so many mods)
  8. Doom 2 (plenty of WADs including mine)
  9. DDLC (free, although "game" is a generous term)
  10. Dungeon Keeper 2

(Note: Opened my PC, can safely add Heroes of Might and Magic 3 AND 5: Tribes of the East, Age of Wonders 1 AND 3 (planetfall cost too much, but it is still under 5 cents an hour), The Sims (original), One Must Fall 2097, Master of Magic, Unreal Tournament, Deus Ex.)

Altho, tbf, console side, I got 6 titles. A link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart 64, Smash Brothers Melee, Star Fox 64 and MegamanX Collection.

Oh wait, going WAY back, C&C (the o.g., named after-the-fact: Tiberian Dawn).

The girl in the pic is the titular character from the French surrealist film “AmĂ©lie”.

4

u/Prudent_Guidance4376 10d ago

i think i actually had Fitgirl explain that to me in another comment section a WHILE back. the fuckin' spoon gets me every time though.

matrix reference

1

u/coarse_glass 10d ago

Which fitgirl uses as an avatar for himself

3

u/deformedexile 10d ago

Actually the girl in the pic is Amelie (well, Audrey Tautou as Amelie), from the popular 2001 film Amelie. Fitgirl just uses the picture.

Sorry and thanks for telling me her name, i didn't know.
