Question Help me choose a pen: A or B

A) purple $12.99
https://a.co/d/0d5HLv85

B) pink $8.99
https://a.co/d/02Wl3BAX
*I’m not worried about the getting the extra long placer, since it looks like both options go up to a 9 and that’s plenty for me

This will be my first pen (that doesn’t come with a cheap kit). They’ve been sitting in my cart forever. Im frozen and just need to pull the trigger.

I want thin placer edges, cause I know the bulkier the edge the harder it is to place drills flush against each other.

Thanks for helping me guys!
This is my favorite new hobby and I love this community!!

EDIT: Wow! This is the most individual responses I’ve ever gotten to a post!
I’ll reply to everyone soon (I’m on my last section of my WIP) but the decision has been made: Option A!
On top of the purple color being beautiful, the tips should be thinner. Lots of positive reviews in the comments 👍🏼👍🏼

2nd EDIT: Okay I actually went with Option C recommended by mortuarymeri in the comments. It’s the same as A but 2 more pens and a straightener - we love a straightener!!

Thanks for sharing your experience!
Looks like I’m buying purple!

Good call. It's a thinner pen with thinner metal on the tip, so it definitely helps with accuracy. It's also pretty light weight, which helps me not to get fatigued.

I’m excited now!

pick the A. The 2nd one.. the tips aren't thin kind.

Source: i have both 😃

This was the exact type of info I was looking for! Thank you so much for replying!!

If you look a little deeper into Amazon, you can find the first set from other sellers but they also include a metal straightening tool which is suuuuper helpful. My plastic ones never last 😩👎😂

Omg the plastic straightener that came with my Make Market Michaels tool kit is my FAVORITE!
I’ll definitely see if I can find what you’re referring to.
Feel free to send a link if you have on hand!

https://a.co/d/0j795Lw5 has all the bells and whistles but it is slightly pricier. This is the same style you had in this bundle but with the straightener and more pens! https://a.co/d/000pEmSZ

u/Ok_Bird_7581 29d ago

That looks amazing- I hate having to switch the tips out!

2

u/mortuarymeri 29d ago

I know, me too. I have so many pens 😂🤣

1

u/SpecificAd7526 29d ago

The $6 extra is worth the metal straightener!!
Especially if you’re saying your plastic straighteners break (mine hasn’t yet. But I’m only on my first painting. And I did break the silicone pad my toolkit came with right away).

Is the metal straightener as long as the plastic straighteners? (My plastic is 3 7/8” long)

2

u/mortuarymeri 29d ago

The plastic is just so soft 😭 My metal straightener can multiplace 14 drills so they are quite long. The one I suggested to you has the dimensions posted on this pic.

1

u/SpecificAd7526 29d ago

Thanks for pointing out the dimensions in the photo. I checked the description but didnt see it there.
My husband says im a chronically bad looker 😅

A. If the tips look like the photo it is much more precise with multiplacers than the thicker/rounder metal parts. But that’s a ME thing. I have essentially both sets and like the A set more.

1

u/SpecificAd7526 29d ago

Thanks for your review. I couldn’t tell from the photo which was thinner, but it sounds like A is the winner!

I have A. Best decision

1

u/SpecificAd7526 29d ago

Thank you! I appreciate a review from someone who has it. I’m buying A!

2

u/thefrenchpotatoes 29d ago

A is gorgeous.

2

u/SpecificAd7526 29d ago

It really is! I’m buying it and I’ll post a photo here when it lands!

Purple looks better

1

u/SpecificAd7526 29d ago

Purple is my favorite color! Choice A it is!

2

u/navychild32 29d ago

I am ordering this one. Only because I use certain ones to do dimond art and I love this set.

1

u/SpecificAd7526 29d ago

Thanks for your input! I heard the other set has thinner placers that allow you to be more precise. So I’m going to buy A. But thanks for your input!

2

u/navychild32 29d ago

Your welcome. We should share when we get them

1

u/SpecificAd7526 29d ago

Let’s definitely share photos when they arrive!
I just checked out - arrives in 2 days!

2

u/Horror-Law6236 29d ago

I literally just bought pen A! I like it. The single placer tip is thin and precise!

2

u/SpecificAd7526 29d ago

Thin and precise is exactly what I’m looking for! Thanks for your review. I’m going to buy A!

2

u/Turbulent-Ninja-8008 29d ago

I’ve got the purple one as well as another commenter. I like my purple pen. In fact, it’s the one I use most

2

u/Turbulent-Ninja-8008 29d ago

Here’s my purple with the 3 and 6 tips. I’ve got another pen with the 9 places that I use sometimes

1

u/SpecificAd7526 29d ago

The galaxy shimmer is even prettier in your photo than the listing! Thanks for sharing. Now im excited for mine to arrive!

2

u/Turbulent-Ninja-8008 29d ago

Exactly why I shared it! I did try to make sure the lighting was good too though

2

u/SpecificAd7526 28d ago

The lighting really makes the undertones pop!

1

u/Turbulent-Ninja-8008 28d ago

The glittery shimmer is pretty when lighting is right!

1

u/SpecificAd7526 27d ago

I just got mine, and the shimmer is gorgeous. The purple is *chefs kiss*
I ended up splurging for the pack with 3 pens, and the blue is really pretty, too!

2

u/Turbulent-Ninja-8008 27d ago

The purple is gorgeous in person isn’t it! And it really is my most used pen. I use the 4 and 6 placers the most

2

u/temporaryforever25 29d ago

The pen (without tips) are the same, also my favorite one. Pen B is actually light purple in real life, not as pink as shown in the listing, both color are gorgeous. Would reccomend the tips from pen A; those are stainless steel, thin, easier to work with

2

u/temporaryforever25 29d ago

This is Pen B with the tips from Pen A 😄

1

u/SpecificAd7526 29d ago

I agree that the pink in B is stunning. But since i need to be practical, im buying A for the tips (like you suggested)
I may eventually buy a pen with encapsulated glitter. But i cant find any of those with good tips, so you and this thread helped me decide to start with A!

2

u/Wildmoon21 29d ago

I say PURPLE

2

u/SpecificAd7526 28d ago

I ended up getting a multipack that includes everything in A, but also a blue, pink and straightener tool. It will be nice having 2+ heads for the multiplacers.
Originally I thought I only wanted 1 pen for now and I was going to but a separate glitter encapsulated pen. But the one I was looking at wasn’t threaded so I’m just doing the multi pack for now until I find my dream glitter pen that can also use these tips.

Thanks for your vote! It helped me make the decision!!

2

u/Wildmoon21 29d ago

I actually like this one https://a.co/d/0bZJqqXz

1

u/SpecificAd7526 28d ago

I’ve heard in this thread the placers in that pack are a little less thin and precise, so I ended up going with A. But thanks for your input. The gold is lovely!

2

u/LizzMetzo9 29d ago

Pen A. I have it and love how thin the tips are!

1

u/SpecificAd7526 28d ago

I’m bought pen A specially cause everyone says the tips are nice and thin. Thanks for your vote!

2

u/Great-Barrier-Beef 29d ago

I've been using option A for about a month now after previously using ones like option B for years. Let's just say you are going to LOVE type A. They're so much more precise and I just feel like everything comes out cleaner and neater. I ended up finding a 3 pack that also has the pink pen body from option B as well as the purple one you showed and an additional blue one. They're all so pretty! My only complaint is I have noticed a bit of cracking around the screw hole. I'm not sure if it's from falling on the floor or screwing the tips in too tight so just be careful of that.

Edit: also wanted to warn you that the roller is a little bit sticky so be careful rolling directly over iridescent drills as it could take the finish off. I just place a piece of parchment paper or something over before I roll a section

1

u/SpecificAd7526 28d ago

Thank you so much for the tip!
AB and other specialty drills are my fav and I’d be gutted if I ruined them!

2

u/SoberingReality 29d ago

I have A. I purchased it a while ago.

2

u/SpecificAd7526 27d ago

My A just landed - love it!

2

u/Inevitable-Peace7578 29d ago

I have both A and B tips and A in my experience are thinner

1

u/SpecificAd7526 28d ago

Great feedback! I bought A!

2

u/Kensik 29d ago

Go for A. I have the same kit, but in blue. The tips are great, and the pen feels really good in the hand.

1

u/SpecificAd7526 28d ago

I actually ended up getting the same style, but with 3 pens and a straightener! So I get the purple, pink, and blue just like you!
Any issues with cracking from dropping or inserting tips?

2

u/Kensik 28d ago

Nothing so far been using it for about a month now and have had 0 problems. Tips screw in fine have not dropped it yet hopefully I won't.

2

u/SpecificAd7526 27d ago

Just got mine today and of course I already dropped one! Luckily onto a rug, and it didn’t break!

2

u/CaterpillarSad8455 29d ago

A: I find these tips are easier to see past when placing drills.

1

u/SpecificAd7526 28d ago

Just like you, everyone says placing with A is more precise. I bought A!

2

u/Creative_Nebula2227 29d ago

I personally didn't like A at all. Maybe I was just so use to what I was using and didn't give it enough time. But I tried it once for maybe 15 minutes and haven't touched it since.

1

u/SpecificAd7526 28d ago

Hm, you appear to be in the minority. I think at least a dozen people recommended A. Maybe you want to pull it out and try again? Or not - to each their own 😁

2

u/Not-That_Girl 29d ago

A!? You can get a proper riler cheap, and angles nibs just dont work well, for me at least,

Those good quality square head are great though

1

u/SpecificAd7526 27d ago

I just got it today. You’re right the square heads work great! Night and day from the plastic cheapys that came with my Make Market tool kit!

2

u/Shanna-ban-anna 28d ago

Niether. This pen (NOT their newest version) is far superior. https://a.co/d/05d6U6vJ

2

u/SpecificAd7526 27d ago

I’ve been doing a lot of multiplacing lately. At first I thought it was cheating, but then I realized it took a lot of skill.
But if I’m ever looking to upgrade my single placer, I’ll follow your advice!

1

u/Shanna-ban-anna 25d ago

Yeeeeeah I can’t find a better pen! You might like their newest one, it’s a multi placer.

2

u/kittentf 28d ago

Glad you picked A. I just bought that one too

1

u/SpecificAd7526 27d ago

Did you receive yours yet? Mine landed today and they’re wonderful! Huge improvement from the cheap plastic headed that came with my Make Market tool kit!

1

u/kittentf 22d ago

Yes. Just started using it. So much better than the cheap ones that came with the kit. I've lost most the of the sensation in my hands so the cheap ones always feel like they're going to break on me with how hard I grip them. Also love the case it came with. Keeps everything neat and easy to find

1

u/SpecificAd7526 22d ago

We love a storage case!

2

u/TapEfficient3610 28d ago

A. I have both, and the tips that come with B, I tend to lose the drill under the edge. My placement is a lot more straight with the tips in A

1

u/SpecificAd7526 27d ago

Just got mine! You’re right the tips from A are super smooth!

2

u/mickremmy 28d ago

A for the tips. The thin metal placers are dramatically easier to work with and get good alignment with. Especially crucial for any square drill kits.

1

u/SpecificAd7526 28d ago

I’m going to start my first square next month (waiting for it to ship) so that’s great to know!!

2

u/Worried-Possible7529 28d ago

A.

2

u/SpecificAd7526 27d ago

I bought A… well actually I bought the same pen/tips as A but an expanded pack w 3 color pens. I love it!!
