Question I’m devastated

Post image

My bf stuck a magazine down on my canvas. Now it’s ruined. I’m absolutely devastated. I got this kit 4yrs ago and don’t even know if it’s possible to replace it.

Peel as much as you can off and then use baby wipes to remove the rest. If the glue comes off it can be replaced with diamond dotz stick.

Yes! Baby wipes to the rescue! Absolutely use them to peel off the paper. Then if not enough "sticky" is left? Simply use Diamond Dotz stick to that area. It's super easy to use. Worth the expense IMO!

He’s off getting me baby wipes, pizza and wine cuz it’s gonna be a long night lol. Poor guy feels awful

u/uffdaGalFUN Mar 28 '26

All's good then! You enjoy the night ahead.

Thanks. I feel better now that I can possibly salvage it.

Oh it's totally fixable. Just use the baby wipes fresh & it'll work fine. There's plenty in a package, don't be stingy in using a new fresh baby wipe. IDK if it's the wetness that does the trick, but think so.

Yeah, it's the wetness. The point of the baby wipes is in their material, it doesn't leave those tiny threads behind.

The wetness definitely helps 😉

Ok, I was gonna say get a new bf, but this one's a keeper. Accidenta happen. They're not called "on purposes" . Lovely what remains.

My husband once spilt an entire 2 liter of Mountain Dew on one of my canvases. After that, I learned that canvases are surprisingly resilient. Baby wipes can get stuck stuff off, and make dry glue sticky again. If it gets wet, dry it off to the best of your ability and once it dries use diamond dotz stick. If you accidentally cut the canvas with a craft knife, duct tape on the back works great.

This is my first big mishap like this. I usually do something dumb like spill drills everywhere lol.

Thats the exact reason I do not pull the clear sheet off entirely! I peel it back to work and then when stopping for any amount of time I fix the sheet back over it in place.  Maybe do that in the future? ❤️

I have a husky that sheds even when temps are subfreezing. I cover mine with pieces of wax paper I cut out to form patches so Im only exposing what I plan to dot in one sitting.

You got a good guy :)

You can use baby wipes! I’d lay one over it and moisten it with that.. then try and roll off as much as you can. It might take a bit of work but it can be done. Then if necessary once the magazine is removed, you can use an adhesive like ‘Ailene’s Tack it Over’ and be good to go!

Thanks . I see I forgot to ask my actual question but you guys answered it anyway. My bf on way for baby wipes, pizza and wine cuz he knows he f-kd up and it’s going to be a long night lol. I’ve been warning him for years. Now he understands why I get worked up. Anyway I’m hoping to salvage this kit as it’s ab and I really love it

u/Smart_Variety_5315 Mar 28 '26

You've got this, just keep the wine away from it🤭

7

u/Disastrous-Sir4501 Mar 28 '26

Spilling wine on it after finally getting it paper free is exactly the bone-headed thing I would do lol

All is definitely not lost, it's not ruined, just might take a little work to get it refreshed. Don't give up, that canvas is beautiful!

7

u/Disastrous-Sir4501 Mar 28 '26

I’ve been holding on to it for 4yrs. I was happily surprised to find it has ab drills. I’m hoping baby wipes work.

4

u/Exciting-Role7361 Mar 28 '26

All is not lost. Once you follow some of the advice to get the paper off, Amazon sells all kinds of double sided adhesive sheets, tapes and glue that you can use. I would imagine the sheets would be easier to use as you can lay them down and peel as you work, but you can test what works for you.

2

u/Disastrous-Sir4501 Mar 28 '26

I have a feeling I’m going to lose adhesive on some of it.

6

u/Worried-Possible7529 Mar 28 '26

Baby wipes and tweezers be gentle and if wipes seem dry, mist them with water. Looks like a cool image. 🍀

3

u/Disastrous-Sir4501 Mar 28 '26

Thanks. It has ab drills and I really love it

5

u/Krazykittielady Mar 29 '26

This is why we can't have nice things 😉

2

u/Disastrous-Sir4501 Mar 29 '26

It’s funny cuz it’s true lol

3

u/1Awesomemom Mar 28 '26

Glad to see you got suggestions to fix this! Men! When we moved to another house years ago, we were getting rid of clutter. Well, my husband accidentally threw out 20 years worth of sewing patterns that were in boxes. He thought they were old papers! He felt awful and I lost so many patterns and had to start over. 😥

3

u/Disastrous-Sir4501 Mar 28 '26

Oh that would have made me cry.

2

u/1Awesomemom Mar 28 '26

Yup I did. Actually still crying.

2

u/Disastrous-Sir4501 Mar 28 '26

So heartbreaking

3

u/Worried-Possible7529 Mar 28 '26

I see the store name at the top I’m checking Ali.

2

u/Disastrous-Sir4501 Mar 28 '26

Thanks! I’ve never used Ali but I’m going to start if they still have this kit

3

u/Delphi238 Mar 28 '26

Been there, done that! I used a hair dryer to soften the glue and was able to use tweezers to pull the paper off. Good as new.

2

u/Resident_Proposal869 Mar 28 '26

Girl I’m sorry that sucks so bad. Last week my toddler got ahold of mine and mixed all the diamonds up 😭

2

u/Disastrous-Sir4501 Mar 28 '26

Oh no! I would have cried. On the good side I got pizza and wine lol

2

u/Smurfy378 Mar 28 '26

I hope you can save it!

1

u/Disastrous-Sir4501 Mar 28 '26

Thanks. I’m going to have to use original artwork to guide me on some of it. Also going to have to use glue on some but I think I might be able to salvage it.

2

u/Sufficient-Sulfer Mar 29 '26

My heart hurts for you

2

u/Avril_Blackrose Mar 29 '26

Peel little at a time. Then buy diamond painting glue pens for stickiness .

2

u/Present_Cucumber2120 Mar 29 '26

Use baby or wet wipes to remove the paper. Wait for it to dry if theres a lack of stickiness get Diamond Dotz Stick glue.

2

u/Fabulous-Oil2942 Mar 29 '26

People have offered good suggestions below. It's not unusual for someone's cat to sit on their canvas or for paper to get stuck on it. Baby wipes to the rescue! If the glue loses its stickiness, there are several brands of glue available in craft stores that you can pour or paint on the canvas so it's as good as new.

To avoid this happening again, I suggest cutting the plastic cover into sections of the size you work at a time. I section it off using washi tape (masking tape works, too) and cut along the tape's edge. A ceramic-bladed craft knife works well, and unlike an X-acto, you can't cut yourself with it. A caution: Be careful NOT to replace the plastic upside-down if you need to re-cover a section; the top side sticks very tightly to the glue. I put a sticker on it before peeling it off.

1

u/Disastrous-Sir4501 Mar 29 '26

I like your idea of marking cover with a sticker. Can’t believe I never thought of that lol. wish they included the information about the plastic cover or have it marked in some way. I ruined my 2nd kit because of the plastic sticking. Like the diamond dots covers because it doesn’t matter what side you use. I had that end uncovered because I was working on it. He brought the mag over to show me something and dropped it on the canvas before realizing it wasn’t covered. Thankfully I was able to save it and will be posting an update tomorrow. 😊

u/Maldrich487 Mar 29 '26

Omg my cat would lose it if it got stuck to him!

2

u/Fabulous-Oil2942 Mar 29 '26

From what I've read on here, the cats just get up and walk away, leaving some hairs on the DP -- they don't get up to find the canvas stuck to their fur and then tear frantically around trying to run away from it (as a friend's cat did when it got tangled in the strings tying a couple of helium balloons together; the poor thing finally ran upstairs and under a bed, where the balloons got stuck.)

1

u/Maldrich487 Mar 29 '26

Omg 😳 yeah my cat, I mean assistant, is super jumpy so that would not go over well. I can just imagine the violent tornado he'd cause & me having to chase after him to get it off. So long to that diamond painting lol 😂 That exact scenario is why I only remove the plastic of a 2"x2" space & if I have to go anywhere I cover it with release paper 😂😂🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️He just looks like trouble is his middle name!

2

u/Disastrous-Sir4501 Mar 30 '26

Yes. I wrote an update post. I got it off with baby wipes and tweezers. Unfortunately the print from the magazine left an imprint on canvas ( similar to newspaper and silly putty. ) it makes it kinda hard to see the underlying grid and some spots are completely illegible. I’m using the original artwork to help guide me. It’s not gonna be perfect but so far it’s looking ok. One perk of it being square is it covers the canvas better. The edges can be covered by washi. I really didn’t expect such great results.

u/Fantastic-Mouse-2775 Apr 04 '26

I am glad to hear that!!

2

u/Fantastic-Mouse-2775 Mar 28 '26

I love the help you can get from the great ppl on this app, in this sub!! "Diamond Art Royalty"!!!! (I don't need this tip at the moment but I'm filing it away!!

5

u/Disastrous-Sir4501 Mar 28 '26

I know it’s a great community! The great advice saved my relationship lol. Unfortunately the print from the mag transferred to the glue like silly putty. I’m going to try and use the original artwork to guide me in drill placement. He said he would replace it if I find it but I’m going to try and fix this one in the meantime as a challenge. If I fix it he’s still buying me a new one so I can get something else than.

2

u/DrummerLogical9851 Mar 28 '26

Time to breakup 💔 absolutely not. Throw the whole man away. Jk. But I sincerely hope he apologized. I’m sure there is a way to get it up. Praying you don’t have to scrap the whole thing.

6

u/Disastrous-Sir4501 Mar 28 '26

He feels really bad. He’s out getting me baby wipes, pizza and wine lol

2

u/BodybuilderNo9915 Mar 28 '26

Get rid of it. The bf not the diamond painting 🤣

5

u/Disastrous-Sir4501 Mar 28 '26

Oh he knows he’s disposable lol

1

u/PitifulLight8354 Mar 28 '26

Wet it it with isapropyl alcohol then peel it off sorted

1

u/Disastrous-Sir4501 Mar 28 '26

Thanks. I was worried alcohol would ruin it

1

u/PitifulLight8354 Apr 23 '26

No people are scared of IPA but I use it all the time I’m a self taught nail artist it’s great stuff so many uses x

1

u/Worried-Possible7529 Mar 28 '26

Do you have a better picture? From inventory sheet maybe.

3

u/Disastrous-Sir4501 Mar 28 '26

Just found the original artwork online. I’m

1

u/Worried-Possible7529 Mar 28 '26

I have a couple of his, I can use screenshot to search Ali .

2

u/Disastrous-Sir4501 Mar 28 '26

I’m definitely going to look up more of his because his work is beautiful

1

u/Worried-Possible7529 Mar 28 '26

He’s licensed with Dreamer Designs if you’re ready for a more advanced canvas. I haven’t bought anything in awhile because I’m working on my stash. Just browse.

2

u/Disastrous-Sir4501 Mar 28 '26

This is really cool. I was just looking at his kits. So many great ones. I really love the shining twins. He’s buying me a new kit even if I salvage this one so I’m going to order one of his.

1

u/Worried-Possible7529 Mar 28 '26

Using that picture in the Ali app several stores showed up. Personally I’d go a little larger with her.

3

u/Disastrous-Sir4501 Mar 28 '26

He wants to replace it so I’m definitely going bigger.

1

u/ValkyrieSigrid Mar 28 '26

Can you gently shave the paper off with a razor blade? Then you could reapply the glue

2

u/Disastrous-Sir4501 Mar 28 '26

I was worried about messing up the picture. I’m going to use the pic of original artwork and try to recreate it

1

u/Tough_Tangerine2462 Mar 29 '26

Rubbing alcohol and a q-tip works the best and doesn’t ruin the glue did that myself a couple months ago

1

u/Molleegurl_loves_2DP Mar 29 '26

Just wipe it down with a baby wipe and get it pretty soaked and just start wiping it will come off make take some time but it will I had done this plenty of times 😬 but once it’s all off leave it open so it can dry and the glue will be as good as new.

1

u/Conscious_Sky8255 Mar 29 '26

queen… did the baby wipes work

1

u/Ladygem7 Mar 30 '26

Qtip and rubbing alcohol works too just let it dry all the way before trying to put gems on

1

u/jaelynlengchua Mar 31 '26

I put water on mine than gently using a tweezer or Cotten but to scrape the paper off

Four years of Procrastination is the real villain here.
