International Friendly Post Match?

Weird friendly. The World Cup is some load of bollox if Ireland goes out and beats these and Canada next week. Slight forgiving nature in me for the performance. But.......BUT these lads were poor. How are we not hammering them? Cut them open twice in the first ten minutes.

I just want to say that tonight changed my view on the Israel game.. I was always against it happening but I was of the opinion that if it went ahead every fan should show up with Palestine flags and make the point clear in the stadium!

Tonight the protest and weirdly Richie Sadlier (who I normally can’t stand) made me realise that being on the stadium would just be supporting the match! Fuck the fines, fuck the Sanctions, let’s be on the right side of history

I'm still on the fence about playing the game as I don't think not playing it achieves anything.

We were more than happy to ignore Qatar's human rights violations to play a friendly against them yesterday. The US are funding and enabling the genocide and we were all hoping for a spot at the world cup hosted by them.

Where is the line drawn?

The important thing is that there is a line somewhere, and Israel is clearly over it. Start there.

My point remains, it seems feeble to boycott a nations league game against Israel but a few months ago we were all excited to go to a USA hosted World Cup despite the States being the largest supplier of weapons and military aid that is being used to commit the genocide.

I agree. USA gets away with an unimaginable amount of horrible shit. I'd argue that Israel is so obviously over the line that it is the place we should start. The line doesn't need to be perfectly defined and agreed when it is this clear. We should take a stand and take whatever punishment is applied. We'll live.

If you feel so strongly about USA then you could start a boycott campaign of them too? But it doesn't help to use USA as an excuse to normalise relations with Israel. Russia is the good example of this hypocrisy. They invaded Ukraine and were banned by Fifa/Uefa/Olympics literally the next day.

Im not calling for a boycott campaign of either of them, my point was that why do people that feel so strongly about boycotting the Israel game not have the same feelings towards the USA.

If genocide is across the line, enabling the genocide must also be across the line.

Russia is a perfect example of the hypocrisy by Fifa/Uefa and boycotting all international games would be a stronger message sent to Fifa/Uefa than Ireland boycotting two games against Israel. Do we think that will result in any action by Fifa/Uefa against Israel?

People need to stop worrying about what it will achieve or if anybody will follow us. That creates inaction. Take a stand based on our morals and take whatever punishment comes with it. We will live.

I doubt the members of the Easter Rising thought they would defeat the British Army in battle. I doubt the Dunnes ladies thought they’d end apartheid in South Africa. I doubt Rosa Parks thought she’d end segregation in USA.

But in each case a relatively small, clear action got the ball rolling.

No idea why your being down voted on comments, you're 100% correct the US have caused carnage in that part of the world for years now , where ever they have got involved they've caused chaos, and by the way still the only country to nuke a civilian population, the good old USA .

I have no idea either. I understand people taking a moral stand but morals should be consistent

Well ultimately, even putting the absolutely horrific situation in Gaza aside (which we shouldn't ofc), Israel is currently occupying a larger % of Lebanon, a sovereign state and FIFA member, than Russia is of Ukraine. If Russia has been rightfully kicked out of international competitions, Israel absolutely should too
