International Friendly Post Match?

Weird friendly. The World Cup is some load of bollox if Ireland goes out and beats these and Canada next week. Slight forgiving nature in me for the performance. But.......BUT these lads were poor. How are we not hammering them? Cut them open twice in the first ten minutes.

Liam scales can't play wing back. Not good enough on the ball

Liam Scale haters tend not to understand what he brings to a team.

He’s a ballsy player, strong defensively and excellent in both boxes. He did fine on the ball today and is miles ahead of Brady or Manning, neither of whom can defend. Scales has to start for us and I don’t mind what position and he’s plenty good enough for the role he played today. Was brilliant there against Portugal at home.

The young lad who came on today looked promising, Roughnan, Bagan and Ferry would also be worth a look at. But unless they kick on I’m more than happy for Scales to play the role.

Definitely not scales haters. He’s an unreal centre back, and does a job in left back. But he holds us back offensively.

Just like the situation at Everton for example, every right winger that has played for them this season has struggled because they lack a right back that can consistently overlap and cause threat. Therefore it leads to the winger getting doubled up on and ultimately having to pass backwards. Thats why dibling has struggled a lot this season despite being very good technically

He’s the reason we beat Hungary

He didn't do much going forward in that game except winning the header at the end. He's very good in the air and defending but not on the wing

Agreed. Despite winning motm and being very solid defensively, he doesn’t provide much on the left offensively. Murphy and Ndaba aren’t necessarily your modern day overlapping left backs either, so there weren’t any other options. Brennan maybe, but I don’t know that much about him

Will Ferry was brilliant in the Spain camp & by all accounts will be on the move this summer

Yeah he looks promising. Would like to see more of him in the future

I remember first watching him for Dundee Utd while I was sick over Christmas like a year or 2 ago. Knew he was going well on paper but the lads great defensively, he's a long throw in the locker, he's quick, strong, decent whip, and he's gotten a lot better at finishing too. Shown it in European games & against likes of Celtic too

Think he's exactly what you want, and hopefully a good move will prove that

Yeah I must try and see more of him, hopefully he’ll get a move to a bigger club soon.

I still think manning is our no1 left back but seems like he’s lost the trust from most our fans. But other than him we’re severely lacking, plus it’s vital having a good left footed set piece taker. At least we have Vale now too.

What’s Brennan like? It seems like he’s down as a LWB on paper, havent seen much of him yet though

Brennan's a winger, just the way Bradley's setup is that you've a Danny Grant, Darragh Burns type on one flank & an Andy Lyons, Josh Honohan on the other

Don't think Manning or Browne will get the trust of the public back but as long as we're picking Championship players they'll always be in the ball park. It's on them to at least try win back that trust

Tbh I don’t watch much of shamrock rovers so I don’t rly know these lads roles. But it just seemed like Brennan’s heatmap in most recent games he was up and down the left flank. Even looked back at the Galway and drogheda games in march. He’s still young tbf could be converted easily.

I still back manning to the ground, he made a silly mistake against Czechia tbf but we were still a goal up. I would’ve still backed him to take a penalty. Browne on the other hand, I don’t rate him at all as a footballer, and he’s lost my trust a long time ago Slovenia. Should never have been allowed to step up, but oh well can’t change the past.

In Prem terms..... remember Conte's Chelsea? He's kinda Victor Moses coming back to WB from being a winger, not Marcos Alonso moving up from full back. Except he also plays like an inside forward since he's right footed on the left side 😅

I agree with both points, this is a bigger convo from me for a different time but I personally think lads like that who spend an age in the Championship will just always struggle in the big games if they've never played in one. Closest they got is the Play Offs & Browne stank there too. They don't have the mentality Troy got in Holland, Caoimhin got with Liverpool, full circle...Liam Scales
