Kelleher, scales, obrien, O’Shea, molumby, parrott, Collins played most games for club and country this year. Surely they deserve a rest and we can see more of the new faces
They’re putting together a nice little unbeaten run that has to be good for the atmosphere around the camp. I can see why he would want to protect that. Try to put the game to bed and then give the new/er lads the last half an hour or so.
I think having an unbeaten run in friendlies is kind of irrelevant though, the Macedonia game was so frustrating it was a boring lineup and a boring game. With new lads only given 30 minutes or so. I’d much rather see the new lads get 90 minutes and lose 3-0 than a 0-0 with ageing players in a meaningless friendly. Maybe that’s just me🤷♂️
Can always just watch the under 21s at that point but given their attendances vs the first team, I think its fair to say that most people attending the game would like to see a decent team
Try explaining to a 10 year old why Troy Parrott isnt playing
U21 is a completely different standard to first team mate. Thats why players need to be given minutes to adapt to first team football. Who knows in the future if all our centre forwards are injured and Melia is thrown in with no experience in an Ireland shirt in a big game. It would obviously help them break into the first team at club also if their national team can show faith in them.
Um yes it is? Obviously Qatar senior team would be more competitive and technically better than their u21 side. They have bigger expectations to live up to and are under more pressure, see how they fare. Was no harm giving parrott his debut at 17, fared well didn’t it.
Lee O Connor and Parrott were given a start against New Zealand in the Aviva. 1/2 of them players turned into a regular. That’s all I’m saying. Hopefully we’ll see Melia and umeh start against Canada

He is. A lot of the senior players arent going to the away game in Canada so hes playing them in thr home friendly before releasing them
