I'm so confused why the score for this show is so low on Crunchyroll. This was a solid first episode imo. Nice references to some classic arcade games and even a Dropkick On My Devil Reference. House of The Dead part was very well done. Voice acting was really good too, especially the main female lead. Didn't sound too much like Engrish, which is to be expected from a VA that has done English Dub roles too. Aside from the voice acting, I love the look of this show. Very bright, a lot of softer colors used.

I think it might be due to the problematic age gap. I don't know about the anime but from what I gather in the manga she's 13 and he's 18.

Yeah, if he is truly 18.. yikes. But in his defense right now she has never told him her age but he should be smart enough to know she isn’t close to even 16. lol.

Wow, I kinda feel dumb. Whole time I thought he might've been at most 15 and that maybe this was his part time after school gig or something. I thought she was a closer to his age than that. Welp!

Her mom even says something like "is this a puberty thing?" when she saw Lilly playing with the toy. Gross.

No it's not what you think it is. It's a weirdly translated line. The word the mom said is 反抗期 which refers to rebellious phase of teenagers. Given that the Koala has an angry phase, the mom must have thought that Lily must be in the edgy rebellious phase if she's taken a liking to a toy with an angry face.

Yup, and he's in college.

This is... not great.

To be fair, we are in Animeland(tm) where someone's 45 year old mom can look 9 and someone's 12 year old daughter can look 27.

That's really not relevant here, though. He knows she's 13, Granted, she's the one pursuing him, mostly, and her mother thinks it's cute etc. That's on the writer of the manga (and the people making the show), though, for trying to make it seem sweet.

Also, despite the false information people keep repeating, the age of consent in Japan is not 13. There's an ancient Federal law someone found that stated no prefecture could have their age of consent loser than that, but the age of consent in the various prefectures ranged from 15 to 18, with most being at 16 or 17. Recently, Federal law changed, and now the age of consent for the whole country is 18 if the other person is over 18.

Many major manga / anime fans have some very skewed views of culture, consent, relationships, etc. I won't say it's specifically Western fans, though. It's an issue among some of the fans (and creators) in Japan as well.
