How come Ottoman is not popular with men too? I want a show just about him!

The men: "It should have been me, not him!"

The """punishment""" for forgetting the anniversary was 100% the author director's barely disguised fetish.

I liked how Moi adopted that punishment for Kan's failure to pay his rent for the second month in a row....

u/cyberscythe May 25 '25

did Moi even enjoy doing that? or was it a "it's going to hurt both of us" sort of punishment

u/OldInstruction5368 May 25 '25

He seemed pretty content using Kanshi as an ottoman...

Moi seems to be a fan of "light" touch style punishments.

So he won't outright yell at folks or do anything that's physically harmful to them when they fail.

But he will show his disapproval in such a way and/or punish them via a method that has a greater psychological impact.

They shouldn't have made the wife that hot if they didn't expect men to be into that lol.

That explains why they're still married to each other.

Did you notice how after the practice scene was over, how in the background the actor for Ottoman was seemingly chatting her up a bit too much, and that she was actually the shy one?

But then while the scene was going, the roles were reversed entirely.

Also I feel like the cute coworker turning into a monster was some kind of commentary on the whole Monster Girl genre.

The Ottoman and Otto-man pun is more than enough reason for me to watch this show! HAHAHA

i was surprised they went with the cross-language pun

for those not aware, otto is the kanji for husband (夫), which is one reason why Kanshi was confused at first why the show wasn't popular with dads

And the symbol for Ottoman, which is on front of his element is the also the Kanji for husband, 夫.

From what I've seen in a lot of school anime, I assume that a lot of Japanese kids learn English, so maybe it shouldn't be that surprising, but I don't know how many of them have even heard of an ottoman before.

Heck, I don't know how many kids in the USA even know what an ottoman is. It's not a piece of furniture that's used much here.

Barenaked Ladies had a whole song about them....but that was back in the 90s when that stuff was affordable.

Just take a small cardboard box or overturned milk crate and put an old pillow on it. Instant ottoman.

Shipping boxes from CVS are great for that.

u/Frontier246 May 25 '25

Honestly I feel disappointed I didn't see it coming from the name alone lol.

Men can't be openly freaky with families there

27

u/Frontier246 May 25 '25

Those dads in the audience must have really holding it in lol.

21

u/testthrowawayzz May 25 '25

It would be popular with certain anime/manga loving crowds

25

u/Frontier246 May 25 '25

Honestly a part of me wants to get more in-depth in the complicated relationship between Otto-Man and his wife and the drama of his every day life in-between fighting monsters and playing furniture for his wife.

Though I can imagine there are probably quite a few episodes where female co-workers voiced by famous seiyuu are into him and then turn into monsters.

There is/was a manga with that title
