Not only did her friend to turn out to be a love rival, she is actually her equal in skill and determination
This is so interesting and the pretty city pictures/clothes are just the cherry on top of this mountain of corpses this trio of disaster will produce

Drinking newtypery juice usually has different reactions depending on the individual.

A neat little detail we didn't know before is Machu is apparently pretty well off and doesn't seem like she's struggled for survival much, which reflects in her optimistic and bright piloting and how she sees the world through the Omega-Psycommu.

On the other hand, Nyaan is bitter, beaten down, and vengeful. The Gundam gives her the power to lash out against everything that caused her grief, and now I think she's started to wonder why she has to put up with any of that at all anymore - and, moreover, why would she give that power up to anyone now that she has it.

We kinda knew Machu was well off.
Nice school and her mom works for the gov and only cares about securing machus future (which she finds suffocating).
But yeah the trios dynamic is going to be very interesting from now on.
I don't think Nyyan would relquish her new place easily

The Kikeroga is actually a mobile armor (more traditional spacecraft) that Challia piloted when he was Char's boyfriend MAV, it was shown in the Beginning Movie and Episode 2 from what I remember

The MSN-01 Kikeroga was basically a prototype Zeong, it was meant to be the mid game boss before that. Eventually it was canned because the show runtime for cut short, and the design itself was written out of canon, with the Mobile Suit for Newtype project being retconned into the MS-06Z "Bishop" and the MSN-01 Psycommu System Zaku High Mobility Test Type, which became the predecessor to the Zeong. I guess Anno dug up that little factoid for himself

I don't think Machu was particularly well off. I think it's just that her mother has a well-connected government job and got her into that school.

Well, she doesn't seem to be risking hunger, losing the roof over her head or anything like that. Compared to Shuji and Nyaan, the contrast is huge.

Boy I can't wait for the montage of them killing enemies to impress the red Gundam so they have a chance of getting recognised by Shuji

And in the end they will just impress each other while they also get more and more jealous over each other. At some point they will start fighting each other, which will result in a make-out session. When they have a clear head again, they are very confused.

Meanwhile, Shuji just vibes with his huge robot friend

Aight someone needs to write this in romcom format already. Two rivals fall in love with the MC, and the plot is just their beef escalating until the think about each other more than they think of him, and he's pushed to the background just vibing with his homies.

I think Nyaan likes Machu and was jealous of how Machu was looking at Shuuji. Machu is clearly head-over-heels for Shuuji, and probably now thinks Nyaan is a rival for him. Shuuji is oblivious to everything but his quest to pick a flower or whatever.

I'm wondering if next episode will have Machu and Nyaan fight at first and then Shuji's out of commission so they need to team up for the final Clan Battle with Nyaan in the Red Gundam, where connecting through the sparkleverse or whatever it is allows them to make up and decide to be a polycule?
