Shuuji possibly getting in a love triangle after getting his first onscreen kill is some crazy perk, especially in a Gundam series.

I think Nyaan likes Machu and was jealous of how Machu was looking at Shuuji. Machu is clearly head-over-heels for Shuuji, and probably now thinks Nyaan is a rival for him. Shuuji is oblivious to everything but his quest to pick a flower or whatever.
