Considering WCU

Hello! My daughter is considering attending WCU in the fall. On paper the school looks great and more importantly they offer the exact program she is looking for. I’m am a little worried about her feeling secluded, we live in a large city in Florida and not sure how she’ll acclimate to a small town feel. We are going to see the campus this weekend but any feedback both good and bad would be appreciated.

Hello!! We are from Seminole County. My daughter is so busy that she doesn’t have time to miss Target, the mall and Marshall’s. My daughter is a freshman at Western this year. She loves it!!!The school has so many activities that keep them beyond busy. My daughter has experienced more activities and experiences than her friends at other Universities. I can’t say enough good things about Western!!! This is my youngest child so we have been through a college experience with another child. Western knocks it out of the Park!!! A friend of hers from high school who is 2 years older than my daughter kept sending her pictures and told her to come check out the campus. She fell in love with it. The food on campus is amazing!!! If your daughter goes there she needs to ask to be in one of “The Rocks” dorms. They are for Freshman and are beautiful. They look like lodges. Feel free to ask any me any questions.

Hello! We’re from Seminole County too! What a small world! We just arrived in NC, it looks beautiful. We drove through the campus and loved it so far. Looking forward to the open house. I may reach out afterwards with any questions. Thank you again

Have a wonderful time. If you need a yummy meal go to Boots Steakhouse in Dillsboro!! It is delicious!! The open house at Western is so well done!! My daughter went to Lyman, there are girls there from Lake Mary and Winter Springs High School as well. There are cute shops in Sylva and Waynesville. If you need any Western merchandise go to the Walmart Sylva. They usually have nice merchandise and it’s less than the book store.

Thank you for all of your recommendations! We lived in Winter Springs for 10 years before buying our house in Sanford. We went to the Walmart and got some swag to bring back home. My daughter loved the Rocks dorm and hopefully she’ll get to dorm there. I wanted to try your steak house recommendation but we ended up going to pigeon forge and had dinner at the old mill house (we always eat there when we go to TN). We had an amazing experience and I’m 90% sure this is the school she will pick. We are going to review all of the options and make her choice this week.

Glad you had a great experience! Let me know if you have any other questions. My daughter is an orientation counselor and will be at all the orientations over the summer. She can meet your daughter if your daughter decides Western is her choice. It’s always good to know people. My daughter became friends with her orientation counselor. The counselor helped her get the job. Safe travels home!!

Hello again. Thank you again for all of your feedback, my daughter ended up committing and is currently in the roommate picking process ironically she matched with a girl from Lake Mary but they couldn’t room together because they girl was a sophomore so she found a new possible roommate from TN. We are nervous about the move but we know it will help her grow and push out of her constant zone. I hope she’s able to meet your daughter when orientation come around.

I’m so excited for your daughter!!! She is going to love Western! Your daughter will find someone to room with. Is she on the Western 2030 Instagram .Her world is going to be so wonderful up there!!! Let me know when your daughter’s orientation is. You can stay in the dorm for orientation. Your daughter will be paired with a roommate in a dorm for orientation. My husband and I stayed in an Airbnb for the orientation trip. I didn’t want to have to walk down the hall the go to the bathroom in the middle of the night with my mom bladder. Let me know if you have any more questions or need information. Go Cats!!!

My daughter found her roommate on the 2029 page. Some of her friends met their roommates at orientation and others were just placed with someone. It all works out. There is no place like Western. The kids call it home. I have been beyond impressed with everything up there. Tonight my daughter is going to a concert in a coffee shop in Sylva. There is so much to do up there that is definitely not like our area down here. The most important thing is for your daughter not to be shy and talk to people.

Sounds like fun! My daughter loves making friends she played tons of sports in school she did track for 5 years captain of the girls weightlifting team she played flag football so she’s looking forward to meeting new people. Talking about Sylva I left my Apple Watch at the hotel we stayed at and have been trying to get it back for a week it’s been a headache because they want me to mail them a box with a preprinted shipping label. I went to ups and they told me they could send a label but it would be easier if the hotel just boxes it up which they claim they don’t have boxes. So today I have to go to ups when I get off of work to try and get the figured out lol
