It's like Woolworth. It exists as a major supermarket in Australia (totally unrelated to the now defunct US stores). Woolworth GmbH also exists in Germany, Austria and Poland (originally part of F W Woolworth USA, but now completely independent). Woolworth GmbH has more recently acquired the rights to the name in the UK, where all the stores closed in 2009.

Doesn't Woolworth's also operate in NZ under a different name, or have I got that wrong?

It seems Woolworths NZ, is the same company as AUS, and operates under the Woolworths name, according to their website.
