It's like Woolworth. It exists as a major supermarket in Australia (totally unrelated to the now defunct US stores). Woolworth GmbH also exists in Germany, Austria and Poland (originally part of F W Woolworth USA, but now completely independent). Woolworth GmbH has more recently acquired the rights to the name in the UK, where all the stores closed in 2009.
It was Woolthworths in NZ until maybe the late 2000s? Then it became Countdown, and as of 2024 changed its name back to Woolworths (I’m guessing at least partly to cut production cost on home brand packaging). Countdown in NZ and Woolworths in Aus looked identical during that time though. Same logo and everything (which is odd cause the logo is a W stylised as an apple)
