Interesting Egorov Square.

V.I. Lenin Avenue was built up in the 1950s. This is one of the wide streets of the city that runs from north to south. The beginning of the avenue was the plant management building of JSC PA Sevmash, the largest shipbuilding plant in the country, most of whose production is fulfilling the state defense order for the construction of nuclear submarines. The wide strip of park running from the factory headquarters was planted by factory and city workers in the 1960s. This is a sanitary zone that separates the territory of the enterprise from urban residential areas.

70 years ago, the future Lenin Avenue was completely different. To transport materials and operate tower cranes along the street, then called Arkticheskaya, railway tracks were installed for the transport of building materials and operate tower cranes. The entire avenue was built in just a few years. It reflected the characteristic features of Stalinist classicism - monumental buildings using classical architectural orders and stucco.

The first houses on the street were built by prisoners; From 1938 to 1956, Yagrinlag branches operated in the city. Among the items found during the renovation of these houses, there are often notes from prisoners with congratulations and autographs.

These semicircular houses form the first square, which received the name of one of the directors of the shipbuilding plant - Evgeniy Pavlovich Egorov. E.P. Egorov led the company for 20 years from 1952 to 1972; in the West, the name “Egorov’s company” was used even in departmental circles. It was during these years that nuclear submarines began to be built at Sevmash. In 2008, an architectural composition was created dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the nuclear fleet and the 100th anniversary of E.P. Egorov was opened on this square. Its main element is the ship's anchor.

Among the residential buildings, the building of the House of Engineering and Technical Workers of Sevmash stands out. A team of sculptors, formed from specialists from all over the Soviet Union, worked on the external design of the building. Columns with capitals decorate the front porch; at the entrance you can see five round stucco inserts, each with its own theme. On the main facade there is a portal emblem with the inscription DITR\).

And a special decoration of DITR was an ornamented lyre in the form of two swans. It was made by sculptor Vasily Podvalny according to the project. But at the last moment the customer abandoned this idea, considering it an architectural excess. The lyre remained at the design location only because it had already been raised onto the roof; all that remained was to be concreted. Which is what they did.

For a long time people were allowed into this building only with passes, but now it is open to all citizens.

* - Russian language: Аббревиатура ДИТР расшифровывается как Дом инженерно-технических работников; English: The abbreviation DITR stands for House of Engineering and Technical Workers.
