General Useful tips

Hi,

Last year I had my first time on Nova Rock, and I'm going this year too. It was awesome, and I had a great time, I just want to share a few tips that I learned.

  • If you want to use the Special Train from Vienna, you have to buy the Special Ticket. Regular tickets don't apply (even though the regular ticket say "all type of trains")
  • The shuttlebus from the train station to the festival was €5 (iirc), paid only in cash. (No card, no cashless payment available). There are taxis too, but they only accept cash too, so have some cash with you.
  • There will be long queues at the water refill points. It can take 20-30 minutes to refill your bottles.
  • Put your shoes inside the tent.

Please add some tips if you have some!

Regarding the water tip; the water from the sinks at the toilets is good, too. No need to wait for refill points. There is no sticker indicating that the water is not potable (as is required anywhere else), and many do it.

Check the packing list against the rules beforehand - NovaRock has some peculiarities compared to other festivals

Top up Cashless beforehand! - this makes everything faster on site

Arrive on time! - 1 day before the festival is the “arrival day” (day 0)

VIP - When entering the parking lot, have your ticket ready - Get into the left lane, drive straight ahead, do not turn right

The VIP counter is located AFTER the regular counter -à directly accessible from the VIP parking lot, DO NOT go in the main entrance!

Glamping/Green usually have their own tent – there usually is a sign (above the entrance) - it's quicker!

Picking a spot for your tent:

  • Not next to the WCs–Portable toilets = smell
  • Flushing = possible flooding (depends heavily on the type of sanitary facilities)
  • Not by the fence–People sometimes pee here!
  • Maybe not DIRECTLY next to the path–People, trash, dirt, etc.

If everybody arrives on day 0, doesn't it make day 1 the best arrival date?

Only if you don't care about a "good" spot for your camp.

What do you mean wait for water refills? I never did and always had all the water needed.

After the Sum 41 show, there were long queues, and the taps were dry. It took 15 minutes for them to get the water back, after that it was waiting in queue. After Babymetal, there was also a queue with long waiting time

I think it's natural that people rush the water refills after the bigger shows. It's the case at every festival.

Yes, I should have written "between shows". During the concerts it is max 2-3 people.

Where can I find more information on the limits for water bottles? So far I found on novarock.at that plastic / glas / etc. bottles are not allowed, but not what actually is allowed.

I only read on here that foldable bottles are allowed up to 0.5 l. Is that correct, is it limited to one of them per person and is there an official sorce for this?

Into the stage area you can't bring any bottles or other closed liquid containers of any sort, you can however bring a cup filled with whatever you like. Into the camping area you can bring whatever drinks you like as long as they are not in glass containers, so waterbottles, beer cans and so on.

Closes containers of any other type are a Grey area I guess, we managed to bring a liter of vodka orange in a plastic bag with a straw taped to it into the stage area, since it technically isn't a bottle or can, but I guess stuff like that depends on how chill the security guys are 😂

There are shuttle buses departing from Vienna (Erdberg) as well. I bought the tickets there, mainly because it goes directly to the festival.

Bring something that gives shade, like some cheap pavilion cause in nova rock you got either sun burning down or its raining, in both cases you want something to sit under.

It's one ticket per day, right? Not one per entire festival? Also, do the special train tickets sell out? For example I'm still not sure if I'll be able to come last day, would it be a problem to buy that one on the day?

u/Kryssz90 Jun 04 '25

Tickets should be available now

On Friday and Saturday there are no special trains, so we can come with regular OBB trains using the same ticket. But how to get from the train statiom to the festival then? Shuttle buses were confirmed to be connected to the special trains, meaning they won't drive, right? Will NovaRock taxis (the only ones allowed on the festival grounds) drive every day? E.g. if I have to come later (6pm), would there still be something other than walking 4km?
