"I think this is not just a matter of budget cuts, right?" Ciszek said. "It's important to take a step back and see this more as a moment of risk, a moment of political pressure, and looking really at the limits of corporate allyship, particularly when LGBTQ visibility has become really politically costly."

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Pride celebrations across the country continue to lose out on large sponsorships as corporations, a key source of funding, shrink their affiliation with diversity causes and LGBTQ+ events.

Corporate sponsorships of celebrations in several cities, including New York City, Salt Lake City, Louisville, St. Louis, Orlando, and Pittsburgh are down from previous years, organizers said.

Jordan Braxton, co-president of the United States Association of Prides, which supports Pride celebrations nationwide, said that while some smaller Prides have seen a growth in sponsorships, a majority have seen a reduction.

She said the Trump administration's dismantling of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives, has scared corporations away from sponsoring Pride celebrations. "I think that's why some of the corporations have pulled back, because they don't want that government scrutiny," she said.

If we can't have Pride month without corporate sponsorship, then we have lost the plot.

Exactly. Never trust corporations, because they care only about profit.  If something stops being trendy and no longer helps the bottom line, they will drop it like a hot potato.

Sadly, money is important for running events. This isn’t a good sign at all.

We can have Pride Month without corporate sponsorship. No one's saying we can't.

But we can't have large Pride events without money, and corporations have a lot of money they used to be willing to donate. They just saw it as another way to advertise.

But now, they're worried about the backlash for supporting Pride.

I mean, we all knew their “support” was bullshit right? They don’t care about their own employees, they sure as hell never cared about us.

This is true, the fact that less companies support Pride is a bad sign tho. It shows that we are backsliding.

Right.  Why give power to people and organizations who are basically using you for their own purposes, and then will drop you when it's no longer expedient to support you.  This was PREDICTABLE.

100%! The number of corporations that have sponsored Pride yet discriminate against their own LGBTQ+ employees is way more than you think.

Exactly. We never had genuine support. We had dollars they wanted. Disney is notorious for this. They went so far as releasing Pride themed items and yet the second anyone insinuates there's something queer about Elsa, they freak out.

It's a good thing to figure out who your fair weathered friends are, so you can cut them out of your life. Same with corporations.

Absolutely.  No room for fickle supporters.

Yet it won't stop us celebrating. We celebrated Pride long before corporate sponsorship decided it was trendy to back us.

Right. Are they really indispensable?
