PC Used PC parts?

Lads where do yous buy used PC parts? All I seem to see on adverts and Facebook is massively overpriced full systems and the odd part I’m looking for here and there at double what it should cost. Where should I be looking?

People in Ireland seem to have an inflated idea of what second hand parts are worth.

Take note people, a GPU you never used is still second hand even if its only a few weeks old. If you are selling it for a mere €20 less than I can buy a new one, I am buying the new one.

eBay. You'll need to look at used markets in Europe, like eBay, which has a filter for that. The Irish market is more limited. That being said, with the price of storage, RAM and GPUs going up, people know the value of what they have, so it might be hard to find a good deal on those parts specifically, unless a seller is more interested in getting rid of something quickly than making the absolute most that they can.

Adverts is the best for me but you need to haggle. Make an offer and see if the seller accepts. If they say no and you are willing to pay more then make an increased offer.

Don't bother making ridiculously lowball offers. Experienced sellers learn to ignore those.

Don't pontificate about how the price should be cheaper because it is on sale in Tesco etc. Nobody cares.

Do check the sellers karma. Decent karma is a good indication that someone knows what they are doing and won't mess you around.

Remember that asking prices are meaningless. Any seller who knows what they are doing so start off with an optimistic price to allow for haggling. Unfortunately adverts hides sold listings so it is hard to see what stuff is actually selling for but you can sometimes get an idea from the comments on listings that are still live. A good place to get an idea of the current market value of used parts is the completed listings search on eBay. If all else fails you can look at CEX and take the average of their buy and sell price.

Adverts and eBay are overpriced I find. Facebook marketplace would be good if not the fact that you have to find items closer to yourself which might be an issue.

I’ve built a couple of pcs now off of Vinted. Great deals, cheap postage, just look at the reviews/rep of a seller and that’s all. I’ve bought motherboards, ram, gpu’s, CPU’s, fans, fan controllers.
A lot of those things can be found brand new still.

It’s also a brilliant site to sell stuff. Really makes places like marketplace, eBay and adverts almost redundant for now.
