Every year, I see posts asking for tips and tricks on how to save your canopy from inclement weather. I’m here to clear up the confusion.
Most people think they’re done with canopy setup once they stake all the feet down, but that’s only half the job. You must secure the top of the canopy with guylines as well. If you don’t setup the guylines, you have not finished setting up your canopy!
Make sure to place the stakes for the guylines at 90° to the lines for maximum torque. All of the feet stakes should be angled as well.
That’s it! That’s all you need to do!
See the blue canopy in the pictures (mine) and see the rest of the row. It’s the second to last evening and literally everyone else in my row has already destroyed their canopy. I spent more time securing my neighbor’s canopy from flying into mine than worrying about my own. We were sitting pretty the entire time.
We did NOT lower the canopy during extreme winds once! My tarp wall was up the entire time too. But you still want to check on the stakes once or twice if it’s windy.
Bring some string lights or a pool noodle to cover the guylines. They’re easy to miss and walk into.
If you’re in AC Landing, you can tie the guylines for the back of the canopy to the pod stakes that are already in the ground.
Please please please use your guylines!
