DTU Rescinding Masters offer at DTU after acceptance

Hey everyone,

I got accepted into Msc in Autonomous systems and the uni wants an answer by the 15'th of June wether i accept the offer or not.

This program is my second option, and the place i really want to go to is a different Masters from RWTH aachen in germany but they give answers much later somewhere in july/august since they start in october.

My question is, is it possible to accept my offer at DTU and later rescind it if i get into the masters at aachen, and also rejecting the accepted accomodatikn offer from pks (since you technically need to be studying to live there)? What could be the worst thing to happen?

Hey - I was in this exact position this month. I had applied to both DTU and TUM, but TUM releases their offers much later so I accepted my offer at DTU first. According to their website (https://www.dtu.dk/english/education/graduate/fees-and-funding/terms-of-payment) it says that if you cancel enrollment before the semester starts (September 1st, I believe) they will refund any tuition payment, if that is applicable to you. If you have a tuition waiver/don't need to pay anything then you can cancel enrollment before or after the semester starts with no problem.

As for accommodation, I am not sure about PKS. I would check their terms and conditions/look into the specific dorm you got offered. I believe all of their acceptance contracts are binding so unfortunately that might be tricky. Maybe you could find someone to take your spot?

As for the worst thing to happen, I just think that finding housing would be super tricky in late July/August unless you think you could get off a waiting list/time it just right to where you'd get an offer in August.

Best of luck!

EDIT: I forgot to note that if you are on several waiting lists for housing - be careful not to reject too many as they won't offer you accommodation past a certain number of rejections I believe

Wow thanks a lot for the very detailed answer 😎

I had actually already paid the deposit and having looked into it in a bit more detail if i am not planning on studying anymore, my contract will get terminated and then i'd get my deposit back but pay rent for as long as they need to find a new tenant.
