Question I Illustrated My Own Cover - But Will I Get Sued?

Post image

I’ve written a sequel to my fantasy comedy series following a pest control agency - but this one is a parody of Game of Thrones!

Will I get in trouble for the name (Throne of Games)? There are nods and references to Game of Thrones, but it is all my own world and characters. Will it be okay with the added “An Unofficial Parody” subheader?

Question How to find assets for book covers?

For reference, I have a near-completion, conceptual book cover, heavily edited by me in Illustrator.

That being said, one of the main elements (singular .png character art) that has been edited to look original (I like how it looks, but not the connotation of its origin) - is AI generated. Obviously I don't want it to look like slop, so it's been stylised how I imagined the book cover. I've only ever used this for conceptual mocking up and never intend to publish using AI imagery.

I'd like to either find an asset to replace it and edit it myself, or commission someone to design the character with me so it's 100% human.

If I do search for assets, where might I be able to find them? A simple Google won't do as it'll have to be licensed for profit.

I hope you guys understand, and cheers for any help!

Advertising Services New writing platform that features cover art marketplace. Looking for artists!

Hey guys, posting on behalf of fictionite.com , a new web novel platform that's making a commitment to being human only.

The site is brand new and just a week ago we made the decision not to allow ai covers, so authors are scrambling to commission something for launch.

The platform is going to feature a marketplace for cover artists to list their work so authors can reach out for commissions or to buy existing pieces.

If you're interested in advertising directly to authors in the community feel free to join the discord https://discord.gg/zrBpftzc (updated)

If you are planning on advertising your work there, be prepared to post a speedpaint for any work you want to advertise. Any commissions you do for authors in that server would require a speedpaint at the end to stay a member of the community and continue to advertise. We're doing this and a few other things to help ensure no AI-art is sneaking in to the best of our ability.

No ai art welcome, folks do scan. Thanks, everyone!

This is the story of four disparate characters-- a desparate indian peasant farmer, a bollywood star with a secret, an ambitious chinese politician, and a esoteric western hippie -- as they travel to India seeking counsel from a renowned anus-reading mystic. They meet in his refuge as they go through the ritual preparation and cleansing of the body. It is a serious exploration of Vedic mysticism that dives into ideas bout intuition, ambition, fate, belief, and the body as a map of the soul.

Feedback Wanted [Feedback wanted] Thriller novel about blind FMC

“At thirty-five, Sandy is a formidable blind programmer who has just realized she’s being watched. Then came the quirks in her day that she could easily brush off: familiar footsteps of someone she couldn’t see, a scent she recognized but couldn’t place, and silent phone calls carrying the echo of her surroundings.

Refusing to live her life questioning every scent and sound around her, Sandy vows to confront the source of these events head-on. But first, she has to find them. With just her assistive tech, her digital skills, and a whole lot of gumption, Sandy jumps into the cyber world to pinpoint the culprit’s location.

Sandy must decide how many laws she’s willing to break and how much danger she’s willing to face to be free from the reign of terror.”

This is my first time doing a book cover but I’ve worked in web design for a while and am trying to use what I know from digital and apply it to print, with mixed results. I would love any constructive feedback on how to improve this front cover (back to come once aesthetic is established)

I know I need to update the vector art to match the lighting and realism/fidelity of the background. Any other areas that need work?

they've got SUCH a cool book they're working on, it might not end up being the official cover since they're also an artist but they let me give it a try since I'm building up a little portfolio so I can start selling covers soon :) I think it turned out pretty cool! I love my fellow author friends <3 I also drew my own books cover, it's fun bringing a story to life in it's cover form :3 ! I'm so proud of how this turned out!!!!!! I don't have the typical style for book covers but I love focusing on the character art and trying to bring them to life, I'm really happy they liked it, they said I really captured how they imagined the main character which is SO GREAT of course I had the help of some reference art they gave me :) I can't wait till their book comes out I love xenofiction :)

Feedback Wanted Cover for my Debut Novel

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’m looking for opinions and suggestions on my mystery thriller novel. I want to make sure the cover matches the vibe of the book. The house is a very important part of the book, as are the forget-me-not flowers.

Some sub genres would be contemporary gothic, domestic drama, women’s lit fiction, with a touch of supernatural. I don’t want people to be put off that it’s slightly supernatural because it’s not even slightly spooky, the book really is about generational trauma and institutional silence. Here is my blurb:

As she steps into the shadows her mother left behind, she uncovers a danger that’s been waiting thirty-one years for her to come home—and it will do anything to keep her quiet.

Vera Redmond spends her days in New York City transcribing courtroom drama—until a single notification turns her own life into one.

A DNA match through HeritageTrace pulls her from the chaos of Queens to the quiet town of Ashcombe, Pennsylvania. As she searches for answers about the mother she never knew, she’s met only with contradictions about who Emmaline Whitlow was.

Some remember Emmaline as strange and reserved, nicknamed “Witchy Whitlow” after claiming to experience things inside the family’s Victorian home. Others use the moniker as an accusation, believing she was tied to local tragedies—including a fatal hit-and-run just weeks before she gave up her infant daughter for adoption and skipped town.

Now, staying in the Whitlow house, Vera retraces her mother’s steps through a home that doesn’t quite feel empty, and a town that refuses to agree on the truth.
