Video Visited The Real Everon
That one time when we hiked to the real Everon and Regina mountain. Highly recommended place.
I got some more pictures that might post later.

Everon is.. Real!? That's crazy! I'd love to go there sometime and dive around without a map and GPS just to freak out my family

BI maps are usually real places that they modal into the game. I would bet that BI sent workers to this island to take pictures and learn the area like they did with Arma 3 and Arma 2
6
u/srv340mike Feb 26 '26
That's smart, since it makes for a believable map without having to pull it out of their ass.

u/Jakerod_The_Wolf Feb 26 '26
I'm not saying they didn't but I'm not sure why they would given that the biome and human geography of the island are completely different. The only thing that is really consistent is the elevation/shape and even that is changed quite a bit.

Feb 26 '26
You weren't around in the A3 days when BI devs were locked up under suspicion of esbionage for photographing real locations for their video game, eh?

u/Jakerod_The_Wolf Feb 27 '26
I was. I've been around since the first Arma. I have met that dev before. I have also met one of the devs that worked on Everon. In this case, there is no reason to send a dev there because the terrain they made for the game is not anything like the one that is there in reality outside of shape and elevation. The vegetation isn't the same. The rock types aren't the same. The culture isn't the same. The roads aren't in the same place or the towns. The economy is different. They would gain nothing from being there.

u/Jive-Turkeys Mar 16 '26
Would I be wrong in mixing that island as described, but with a 1960-80s Slavic/baltic sauce and a rural German spice?
1
u/Jakerod_The_Wolf Feb 27 '26
I was. I have been around since the first Arma. I know one of the devs that worked on Everon. There is no point in sending people there. Outside of the shape and elevation of the island, nothing is identical. The vegetation isn't the same. The rocks. The culture. The architecture. The economy. The roads and towns are in different places. There would be no point sending anyone because there is nothing to really learn since it is more based on Czechia than it is on Krk. Not saying for sure they didn't send anyone there but to me, it doesn't really seem necessary.

Kolguyev island is Tenerife, part of the spanish canaries islands. Even though there is a real russian island called kolguyev.
5
Feb 26 '26
TBF, that russian island is an arctic rock scrape in the ocean. (an extreme simplification) There's functionally nothing on it for a good location to use in a video game. It's a relatively flat muskeg.
2
u/madfla82 Feb 27 '26
Yeah I was simply stating that they used Tenerife for the map instead of using kolguyev but at least they used a Russian name for the map.
3
Feb 27 '26
Based on some rumours and stuff I am hoping that the A4 map will be the island of Visby
2
u/madfla82 Feb 27 '26
Since the British mod that was made was so good I hope that Bohemia will use one of the many islands we have as a map... Isle of man, isle of wight, isle of Arran, isle of Skye...... Even a chain of islands like the outer Hebrides would be an insane map for full scale warfare. So many possibilities plus the UK especially Scotlands isles are stunning.
2
Feb 27 '26
Heck yeah, they do such a good job with these maps I'd love to see it be one where it will be more common to get photographs like above!
2
u/madfla82 Feb 27 '26
When you said Visby that's Gotland. There is a map gogland but it's based in Finland and not off the island gotland
2
u/Jakerod_The_Wolf Feb 27 '26
Gogland is based on Gogland... I assume. Though I think I misinterpreted you and maybe you knew that.
1
Feb 27 '26
Apologies in my ignorance I mistakenly thought the name of the island was the same as the town and site of the Visby massacre.

u/Jakerod_The_Wolf Feb 27 '26
It's seemingly a fictional island if the island he is pointing to in this video is actually the one they are working on and they weren't just messing with us: https://youtu.be/3ZzlVoI_76s?t=328 (5:28 timestamp if the link doesn't jump you there)

u/Jakerod_The_Wolf Feb 26 '26
It isn't real. The elevation and shape of the island are based on a real island called Krk in the Adriatic Sea. If you went there, the hills would look similar but towns, forests, and farmland wouldn't be in the same place. For example, Montignac and Levie don't exist at all. On the plus side it's a relatively small island so you probably can't get lost too bad if you follow roads and coastlines. The real life island is about three times as big as Everon. Real is 36km N-S compared to ~12.8km N-S in the game.
2
u/WingApprehensive5378 Feb 27 '26
Yeah the Krk island is like 90% correct shape and the main roads are close to the Everon road work but some of the main inland cities like you mentioned are missing. The coastal cities are there and their size is obviously bigger than the villages and cities in game. But I like the fact that the airfield is there at the right spot and the valley is really the same place in game and in real life with Durras and Vernon villages being at correct locations too.
1
u/Jakerod_The_Wolf Feb 27 '26
The main roads are pretty far off other than the one through the valley which really only has the one option. The main road should be going from Levie to Montignac to Tyrone to Meaux to Saint whatever. It goes from Levie, which doesn't exist, to Morton, which covers most of the bay, to a town west of Montignac which doesn't exist in the game to Meaux, to the airport which is facing a different direction.
The coastal cities are there and their size is obviously bigger than the villages and cities in game
Lamentin isn't there and the shape of the island over there is pretty different. The aera north of Entre Deux has a lot more towns too. There's three coastal cities around the harbor east of Tyrone, which isn't there in real life, in real life too. The coastal cities that do match up are just ones that are obvious because there are bays there.

u/WingApprehensive5378 Feb 27 '26
There is a small road that goes from kornić to Kras and Gabonji which can be interpreted as the road from Levie to Montignac and Entre Deux. Also the area where Lamentin and Meax are there is real villages at corresponding locations. Either way the middle of real Krk island is vastly different topographicly than the Everon which obviously dictates how and where stuff is build. Everon is actually pretty small island and ingame its very spered out compared to the reality how densely Europe commonly is populated.

Look at the kolguyev map in game, then look up Tenerife. That blew my mind, just so many possibilities to add maps to games but just change places and names to make them your own.

Where's the castle?
1
u/WingApprehensive5378 Feb 27 '26
Unfortunately there is no castle on top of the mountain irl. There are some small stone walls for sheep to shelter in since there are herds of sheep on the mountain.
In the Morton aka Krk city there is castle walls.
