Well actually, before that there was some mistake in that note: it was the message from last year. So I wrote an email to UChicago Admissions yesterday, and they just replied to me and said they had noticed that. So I suppose they are just replacing the old with the new one. It's not an indicator for result, just stay calm

u/Odd_Butterscotch2734 Dec 17 '21
What would make sense to me is this:
(1) Anyone applying EA can still withdraw b/c they got in ED somewhere else over the past few days (and if they withdraw, this helps UC's yield b/c they can pull your app before it counts as an admitted but not matriculated).
(2) People applying ED don't need a withdrawal button b/c you could not have gotten in ED anywhere else over the past few days; i.e., no effect on yield.

Accepted, ED!
Legacy, 35 ACT, 4.0UW, pretty good but not outstanding EC (jazz focused), 4AP, 3DE (school doesn't technically offer AP), school doesn't do rank, submitted artistic profile, good essays and whatnot.
I think the biggest thing was that I chose "What's so odd about odd numbers" and actually wrote about numbers (the ones I found online did not).

Ha. This made me chuckle. In the back of your mind, just know undergrad isn’t all that important. You’re basically just getting a diploma. Real education is at the graduate level. Don’t get too down if you aren’t accepted here. I’ve already told my kid to expect rejection, as it’s statistically most likely. I think she will be bummed but understands. Good luck in a few days.
Edit: you guys/gals are pretty much in the top 95+%ile of all high schoolers. Be proud.

I am so sorry to hear this and I guess you must be having a hard time. Give yourself sometime to rest and to feel your emotions. The college admission process is sometimes unexpected and inexplicable. I am sure you have the qualities to succeed at UChicago and other top schools, so keep your head up and grind on your other applications. Your effort will pay off at the end. Maybe something better for you is waiting at the end of this journey. Remember that a college doesn’t define the student and I am sure that with that profile you going to go far. Good luck and be proud and confident on who you are. Everything will be good at the end.

For anyone who gets waitlisted this year: Last year U of C apparently asked at least some waitlisted applicants if they were still interested and if they said "yes" they were given the opportunity for admission, but for the class of 2026, not the class of 2025. The catch was 1) you had to wait a year, 2) you had to make a deposit/sign contract now, and 3) no financial aid. I can't say how often it happened, by I did hear of at least two different cases of this happening with students at our school AND my applicant was contacted multiple times about continuing interest but said "No" since they had already been accepted at top tier schools (interesting that we had also indicated we weren't seeking financial aid). 36 ACT, 1590 SAT (not superscore),3.99 UW, 5.32/5.33 W, 10 APs (all 5s) - applied RD, was waitlisted and then contacted multiple times asking if they were "absolutely sure" they didn't want to remain on the waitlist. Best of luck to you all!

u/Throwaway50905 Feb 11 '22
Denied. Oh well! Michigan it is. Didn't expect much with a below average SAT anyway.

u/HuskyMouse College Freshman Dec 18 '21 edited Dec 18 '21
i was accepted ea, but i’m making a new comment to add more things lol - 3.81 uw/4.8 w, top 10% - test optional (had a 31), did not submit ap scores. i had nice involvement (co-editor of school paper with publications in local and state newspaper, debater all four years, founded model un, did research that was published). the major i put on my application was global studies
my uncommon essay was about my notebook, and i talked about the adventures i took with it. i chose the past prompt about mailing letters to trees in australia. this was 800 words
for my why uchicago, i started by talking about how i read about random things late at night for fun, and talked about how i discovered and learned about uchicago. i talked about my major (global studies) and why i wanted to do it, the core, student life, and extracurriculars. this was also around 800 words
i don’t know if i’m gonna commit yet, but as of now i’m the only student in my town to get in. everyone i know was deferred/rejected. i might drop some schools from my list and add 2 more schools to call it a cycle lmao.

13/502
20 AP’s(Calc AB, Bio, Physics 1, stats, CSP, macro, micro, lang, lit, USH, gov, and others)
1st essay: compared Uchicago to a sour bag of skittles, and each of my passions(law, public policy, Econ, and skateboarding) were each a different flavor of sour skittle.
Second essay: used A$ap Rocky’s “praise the lord and break the law quote” and attributed to the dean of divinity school. I ended up taking over the school, but later loosing it because I became a dictator.
Big EC’s: Varisty cross country, Varsity tennis, Debate PF team captain, lead attorney on mock trial, business club co-founder and co-Pres, ran my own business that organized around half a million in transactions

With the EAs not having or having a withdraw button, I guess if there is enough people here we could just make a pool, and see. In my understanding there should be much more rejections than acceptances. But again will only work if we have lots of people participating
Im doing ED, so doesn’t really matter for me, but since im not gonna work until I see the letter…
UPD: here is the link from the above post (same pool)
