newborn keeps having leaks

with most diapers i’ve tried he keeps having leaks from the top when the rest of the diaper is dry. for reference, these are huggies snug and dry, but it’s with multiple different ones that worked for my first son.

for my baby shower i asked solely for rascals because those worked for my first son the best and now i have so many boxes that i cant use because they leak like this.

for reference the only diapers that didnt leak were luvs and parents choice surprisingly. all huggies brand do this and rascals/millie moon

Are you using coconut oil or another oil based moisturizer on him? Took us awhile to realize it after soo many leaks even though inside diaper was barely wet. The oil created a water (pee) proof barrier between skin and diaper and would repel the pee out instead of absorbing into diaper. Now we use a gel lotion that absorbs completely to skin before putting diaper on or just skip the lotion from his groin area

just the boogie wipes brand of diaper rash spray in between changes, i don’t think that would affect anything but i could be wrong.
