I like Ben, but I don't like this

Its a terrible idea. Dude hasn't been in wrestling shape for years and that was before the double lung transplant. The best outcome is he gets embarrassed.

Yup. Seems unnecessarily risky for what?

That being said, it’s his life. If he’s comfortable with it then it is what it is.

I think it’s extremely irresponsible. Another transplant recipient would have respected the fact that someone donated their lungs and would have honored that gift by acting cautiously and doing everything possible to avoid reckless behavior and make the most of the second chance they were given.

I hope the recipient of my lungs does what they love.

An unexamined life is not one worth living.

I don’t know his financial situation, but based on all the stuff he’s involved in I can’t imagine he needs the money that badly, but maybe he does.

Ben was one of RAF's first signings (he was supposed to wrestle at RAF 01), so I'm guessing there's still a lingering 3-match contract he wants to fulfil

This is after they gave him an office job as a matchmaker, so unless he's getting fired from that, I'm not seeing why else he'd do it other than pride

Good info, thanks

He likes wrestling, I think the analysis ends there. He competed in MMA because it was sort of his only option after college, but I never got the feeling he had any love for it. The man just loves wrestling, and this is an opportunity to wrestle a real match

I mean...5-year survival rate isn't great following a double-lung transplant

If he wants to go down swinging, then bless him - but he's one cold/flu away from being back in the hospital

He's gotten really conservative politically since becoming born-again last year, so I wonder if he's on the anti-science train despite doctors saving his life multiple times

I seem to remember he’s always been pretty conservative

Don’t forget promoting crypto scams as well. Love him as a wrestler but his choices really make me sad.

I think it’s good that he’s conservative lol. I don’t think him taking money for a paid advertisement to cover his medical bills is all that evil though. It’s not like he could’ve known the company paying him was going to rug pull the coin. Also all the sources say that the total market cap of the coin was like $29,000

“ It’s not like he could’ve known the company paying him was going to rug pull the coin.”

Is some next level gymnastics so you don’t have to come to terms that someone you like used his platform to mislead his audience for financial gain. So your comeback to he scammed his audience is he was too dumb to know better? Not like that makes me respect askren anymore. Great wrestler but not much in terms of intelligence.

Always love the people who get healed in a hospital by medically trained professionals, Go on to thank God instead of the people who spent a decade in school lol

Myopic way to look at it. There are tons of scenarios where the trained professionals do everything right and the person still dies or has some unfavorable outcome.

If he wants to thank god for him still being alive, who cares?

Yes because practicing medicine isn't 100% successful, especially when we are talking about replacing lungs on an individual.  Just think about how crazy that concept is and we are able to do it successfully quite often.  I don't care that he thanks God, but let's give credit where it's actually due. "Divine miracles" don't heal people.

u/durants_newest_acct 13m ago

I'd say the divine miracle is God putting grey matter in the cortex of our brains which allows us to heal others.

And which God would that be?

I don’t like Ben, but I don’t want him to do this to his health either.

I will point out that Belal is a Midwest guy who likely trained with Askren at points. I don't think this will be a competitive match

Really hoping we see more of an exhibition between them

RAF needs to sign Beniel D and Gamrot

I see this going one of two ways.

Askren steps on the mat, win or lose, competes and tries his best. AFAIK, those who have double lung transplants are old people and Ben Askren is a huge outlier being an healthy athlete. He proves everyone wrong.

Askren catches a sickness and ends up in the hospital again.

For his sake I hope it's the former.

He's being irresponsible as this is most likely against all medical advice

u/TheClappyCappy Canada 3m ago

Yea this is setting a bad example imo.

His odds of recovery were already low with the transplant seems a bit irresponsible to waste that gift

u/dirt_dryad 1h ago

This has got to be a super friendly match and victory lap for askren surviving right??? RIGHT???

He was struggling to commentate the last RAF without coughing fits…. This doesn’t seem good

Ben needs money

u/PhilosopherNo7409 USA Wrestling 27m ago

How does Belal win here? Is he really that desperate for money that he’s willing to wrestle a guy with some corpse’s lungs? I love Ben, this is a bad idea. And it’s a lose/lose for Belal

Glad to see him back!
