Kade Chandler and Tom Sparrow

Season is so over im thinking about trades only halfway through 💔.

If butters leaves we could pay them massive overs for their first 5 years at the club and then offer them less after. That way we can actually have a functional midfield (JHF, D Cochrane (if we play him as a midfielder), Sparrow, Chandler, Burgoyne, Sweet).

Edit: These guys are UFAs so we can save our picks for our 4 draftees in 2026 and 2027.

According to last week's Gettable segment, Tom Sparrow and Kade Chandler are both on the verge of re-signing at Melbourne

Rozee exists too

Yeah but he could be half back

We just need a better half back.

He only went there because we dont have Houston & to break tags

Prefer rozee off halfback we need more aggresiveness in midfield

I don’t see how we could get those two through the doors and still have enough to match Dougie this year and Salopek, Rodan and Pilot next year.

Personally I would like to see us attack the draft for the next few years rather than target players in their mid 20’s who will be at the back end of their careers by the time we are competing again.

Unfortunately the neglect we have shown to the draft over the last 5+ years has come back to bite us. I think we are going to have accept some short term pain to make up for the inept list management decisions of the past few years.

They are UFAs so they can come in for no picks but apparently they might re sign with melbourne.

We got Moraes who looks like he will be solid one day. Wouldn’t mind seeing Berry get a run in the midfield

We're not going to be trading for any players. We need picks for our academy and father sons. I'm hoping Zak stays on but if not we need minimum three first rounders

We don't need to trade for them, they are UFA. Just have to pay up

We mostly need picks.

I wouldn't be against going for Borlace who's out of contract or Buku Khamis but that's about it.

I wonder if we could look at Joel Freijah + 1 first rounder (to use on Cochrane) and then maybe a later pick for Butters? Or am I dreaming?

Pretty sure dogs are offering 2 first rounders and Freijah. Thats what a lot of bulldogs fan say.

I like the sounds of that. I haven’t seen too much of him play just yet, but from what I’m hearing about him we could actually win the trade. JHF, Burgoyne, Freijah, Cochrane, Witlock, Berry, Moraes would be a great nucleus to build around.

Why is Freijah being floated around quite often though? He seems like a good fit for our team but why would a Victorian want to join an unfortunately weaker team?

Clubs find a way of persuading people. Look at Sydney in the Charlie Curnow trade. Will Hayward goes from signing a long term deal with a team and saying his future is there, to a Carlton player essentially over a week

He’s from Horsham not Melbourne, Adelaide’s a similar distant from home.

Melbourne’s a pain in the ass to live in

Bevo’s not that great of a coach

Dogs are going after mids when they’re already stacked and need defenders

Ports midfield is easier to break into if dogs have Butters, Bont and Richards.

Plenty of reasons.

Not that keen on either of them tbh

One averages 20 touches, the other 16 touches.

Why would you pay overs for that?

I cant say I’ve noticed either of them before their names were mooted around the Butters contract.

I’m not sure looking players from outside is the right move. Unfortunately, with the list as it is there’s no path to fast track this rebuild. Over the next couple of seasons I would expect 15 players to retire or be delisted and the sort of draft access we’re going to need to rebuild properly is going to force at least another two star players out the door. I think the club needs to evaluate whether it’s actually worth spending eight first round picks on four players or if we only match two bids and lure the others home later on while using the picks for other draftees..

If Butters leaves, I would rather use get draft picks instead of players so we can capitalise on the father son and academy picks over the next couple of years
