OC Colorado Flag Alphabet
I was curious what the Colorado flag would look like with each letter of the alphabet.

I’ve always wanted to try the skiing in @olorado

Turns out the flag would be even better if it was called "Olorado"

Uhh when did @ become the 28th letter?
24
u/mszegedy Khanty-Mansi Apr 18 '26
it's actually the zeroth letter, before A. op misplaced it. (insert crude joke about ebcdic)
19
u/freethebluejay Apr 18 '26
Interesting how quickly you accepted the ampersand as the 27th
20
u/JACC_Opi Apr 18 '26
That was actually treated as a letter at least until the 19th century by English-speakers.
3
u/freethebluejay Apr 19 '26
Would you look at that. I learned something new today, thank you
6
u/MaraschinoPanda Apr 19 '26
That's even where the name "ampersand" comes from. "... X, Y, Z, and, per se 'and'."

u/My_Soul_to_Squeeze Apr 19 '26
I thought you were bullshitting us, but based on my 10 seconds of research, it looks like you're not. Wild.
2
u/JACC_Opi Apr 19 '26
I've actually seen photos of 19th century classrooms with the alphabet listed on them and that's how I know the thing about ⟨&⟩, because it was on there along with the rest.

The flag of every state of the union in the style of Colorado.

The round ones genuinely all work best:
O, Q, and @

u/54-Liam-26 Apr 19 '26
I and T work decently, too

T looks like a person with a pair of flabby Bingo Wings xD

True. I think a capital I (one with the crosses at top / bottom) would actually look really good
2
u/Yet_One_More_Idiot England • Scotland Apr 19 '26
True, that would probably look a bit better than what this I looks like. :)

Funny, the only letter in "COLORADO" that doesn't look good is R. They could very nearly do a whole flag word this way and have it look pretty good

I actually really love Holorado. Something about the perpendicular lines going each way.

My favorite is Zolorado. I like the way the horizontal bars align with the blue stripes.

The M flag actually looks really cool. Would be a great alternative to the Michigan flag as well, especially with those prominent blues and golds.

not sure i agree with the blocky ones like HUVZ. a circular yellow bit would have been better i think. it looks okay on EFWX and i'm ambivalent about KMN.

I like the semicircle for the T. Very nicely done

The flag with the letter "J" would make a great flag of the State of Jefferson in an alternate history where Jefferson Territory (1859-1861) became a state. The Rocky Mountains Jefferson Territory is not to be confused with the proposed "State of Jefferson" between California and Oregon.

This is a truly delightful form of ingenuity via imagined existing thing. "Surely the "C" must have been pulled down from some great pre-existing coloradoean fint alphabet, right?" and like, of course. Love it.
